  1. Alright, thanks! Yeah, cutting it very close. I'll be lucky to even get my 2nd Working Holiday Visa to be honest. Anyway, I was thinking.. You did say my 1st WHV would be canceled if I applied for a tourist visa which would mean I would not complete my regional work and therefore not get a 2nd WHV but what if I applied for a tourist visa on my last day of my 1st WHV after I've already completed my regional work?
  2. Hi everyone! Here's my situation. I'm from Canada and I came to Australia November 25, 2014 on a Working Holiday Visa and now I'm currently doing my 3 months (88 days) of agriculture work to qualify for a 2nd Working Holiday Visa. I will complete my agriculture work on November 23, 2015 (which gives me 2 days before my first visa ends) but I don't want to continue with my 2nd Working Holiday Visa right after my first. What I want to do is go back to Sydney for about 2 weeks after I'm done the farm work, see my friends and then leave and go travel around South East Asia for a couple of months. So my question is, since I want to stay in Australia for an extra 2 weeks after my first visa expires without using my 2nd visa right away, how would I go abouts with this? Is this even possible? I was thinking maybe I could just change my first visa into a tourist visa before the first one expires on Nov 23, 2015. I've gotten a lot of different answers from different people and thought the forums would clear this out for me. One being, if you want to use your 2nd WHV later in life, you have to apply for the 2nd WHV while you are outside of Australia. Help would be much appreciated! And any links too! Thank you!
  3. Car share would be a great idea! But I have probably a 25kg luggage and a backpack. Never done a car share before but if I could find one that could take my things too that would be perfect Thanks for the idea. Any other ideas? Bus companies? I've searched on Greyhound... they do a direct route from Surfers to Gatton for as low as $44. Anything else?
  4. Will be heading to Gatton for some farm work in the next couple of days and just wondering what my cheapest options would be. I don't care how bad it is, just trying to save money. Or if there are any direct routes from Surfers Paradise to Gatton, that would be good too. Thanks
  5. Anyone play basketball here? Let's play
  6. Great! Thanks Collie:) I'm going to stick with Tiger then:)
  7. I'm flying from SYD to the Goldcoast and was wondering what the best/cheapest site for flights in Australia would be. I'm checking out Tiger Air right now and it seems decent but I'm just wondering if there are any other good budget airlines out there. Thanks:)
  8. Thank you all! Thought the last day to file for your tax was today. So.... End of October. Got it! Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the info guys:) Yeah, I'll definitely do my own tax refund than going to a tax agency. Also, I don't understand how the forms aren't available yet. I thought the last day to file for your tax was tomorrow?
  10. myTax says, "You should use myTax if: - you were an Australian resident for tax purposes from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014" I have only been an Australian resident for tax purposes from 25 November 2014 to today....
  11. Which website do you use? I've heard of myTax and e-Tax. Are any of these one that you use? And how long do you think it would take?
  12. I'm here on a Working Holiday Visa from Canada and currently living in Sydney. Just wondering if it's just as easy doing my own tax refund than going through a tax agency. If so, how? Trying to save all the money I can. Thanks all:)
  13. Those sites seem to be for much longer term stays. I'm looking for a room with a roommate or two where I don't need to spend too much. I'm here on a Working Holiday Visa. Thanks though! Any other sites anyone?
  14. I'm currently looking for a new flat and only know of the two websites, flatmate.com and gumtree.com Flatmate looks like a great website but most of the ads are dated back several months sometimes even a year. Gumtree is pretty good. Are there any other websites I should know about when looking for a flat? (in Sydney CBD to be precise)
  15. I'm enjoying it very much but like I said, still very much a newbie to it all.. Thanks for asking:)
  16. Anyone interested in a meet up in Sydney (CBD) for computer programming? I'm an absolute newbie to the whole field but would love to learn it. Let me know:)
  17. Hi, I'm from Canada and I'm on a WHV here in Sydney, Australia. I found a job at a legit restaurant, one on Argyle street in The Rocks, and have just recently received my first paycheque. When I do the calculations, it seems I am being taxed about 30%. Is this correct/normal? It seems a little high to me. If it is correct, will I be able to claim taxes at the end of the fiscal year? I know that I am entitled to claim taxes if I don't earn more than $18,000 in the fiscal year, which I know I won't. If anyone has any answers, please let me know. Thanks Jason
  18. Thanks for the info, Oz. And that's probably it, cal. Thanks!
  19. Hi, I hear the easiest way to get a TFN is online. I did the whole process but at the end of it all, it said, "Your details indicate that you are eligible for a TFN but you have not yet arrived in Australia. Please wait until you arrive in Australia before applying for a TFN." Anyone know what I can do? I just arrived in AUS yesterday and need a job asap. Also, what is the best site to look for jobs? And also, what is the best site for local buy/sell ads? I'm currently in Sydney. Waterloo to be exact. Not sure about the districts/areas here. Can anyone fill me in on all this? EDIT: I've tried gumtree.com for job searching. Not sure which district I should be searching under though. Would like to work close to home (Waterloo)
  20. Traveling to Sydney, Australia from Vancouver Canada. Just wondering if there is a way to get an international drivers license IN Australia or if I can only get it in my home country. And How.. Thanks:)
  21. The RRSP may actually be locked in... But if the "unused credit on credit cards" is acceptable then he should have no problem at all. This is a fact though, correct?
  22. My friend and I are going to Australia with our Working Holiday Visas. We are both Canadian. I know that we need a statement of an amount of at least $5000 CAD in our bank accounts and that's fine. What my friend is wondering is if he can use his RRSP savings and/or Line of Credit as the $5000 statement rather than just a savings/chequings statement. Any help would be great. Thanks
  23. I was reading somewhere that it was no longer required to send in the actual x rays.. Only the form. Forgot where though. Anyway, I had no idea I wasn't able to handle and send in the documents myself. If that's the case, this case has been solved Thanks for confirming! Just needed some reassurance. I guess I won't be able to go that $75 place after all. Will have to do with shelling out $230. Thanks again you guys! Really glad to be a part of such a helpful community. Cheers!
  24. I posted something... and EDITed it... Where did it go? Did it get reviewed by a mod before being published again?... EDIT: It appeared again.. I guess I was right. I've tried to delete this post but I really can't seem to find the delete button..
