  1. Hey Sam, read back this thread from the beginning, you'll find useful information regarding cost of living in the NT. Cost of Living in Darwin, Australia. Prices in Darwin. Updated Sep 2014 http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=Australia&city=Darwin via @Numbeo Best wishes with your application...
  2. No I did not ask for an explanation, and wasn't planning to. They made it clear my file is closed and that's it. What I understand from this rejection is their research shows that I can't get a job in the NT in my nominated occupation. So it's for the best. I'll wait for another state to open up )) Yes the bank statement should be certified by a commissioner of oaths in addition to the stamp/seal of your bank.
  3. 4.1... You should nominate any of the towns in the NT e.g Darwin, Alice Springs etc. It's probably logical to go for the place most of your job adverts are located. One town is enough. But you can narrow it down to a particular area under COMMUNITY AREA such as Palmerston (a satellite town of Darwin), but be prepared to give a good reason for choosing this. For your evidence of employability, between 5-8 job adverts is enough. Make sure the LOCATION and DATE is clearly shown. The more recent the better. I hope this helps. Best wishes...
  4. Hey you can't lose motivation now, you're almost there so keep going. Even now I'm still motivated KEEP GOING... Best wishes with your application.
  5. Thanks a lot dude. God bless. I won't give up.
  6. Hi guys, I finally got a verdict on my SS application. NT Government SS was denied. Their only reason was: "Your skills and experience related to your nominated occupation are not in line with NT employer’s needs." This is really shocking! Has anyone else got a response like this? Please share. And good luck to the guys waiting for their SS...
  7. Hi Saravan, I finally got a verdict on my SS application. NT Government SS was denied. Their only reason was "Your skills and experience related to your nominated occupation are not in line with NT employer’s needs." This is shocking! Well I guess with that comment I'm done now with the NT... Just thought I should share. You still got a chance with the reasons they gave you so best wishes mate...
  8. My acknowledgement email came after 7 days. So I am counting the three weeks from then. I plan to email them this week if I don't get my invite. You should get your acknowledgement email within two weeks of applying. Good luck.
  9. Don't worry, they will respond within the week. NT migration department are quite fast like that. You can ask them all your questions, anything not clear, they will clarify for you. Regards...
  10. My nominated occupation is Architectural Draftsperson 312111. I applied for NT SS on 31 July.
  11. Thanks for the wishes... From what you wrote, I gather you have a positive assessment and you're claiming points for employment to compensate for IELTS. If you get assessed for Mechanical Engineer, this occupation will lead you to only VIC (Melbourne) as the only other state sending invites for this occupation presently is NT. And you will also need to rewrite IELTS like you mentioned. I also don't expect any states to revise their lists and include my occupation. I'd rather make do with what's available RIGHT NOW! So decide wisely what's best for you. Best wishes.
  12. Sorry to hear about this. I myself recently applied for NT SS and I didn't mention any ties to the NT in my application. Still very hopeful anyway... Here's what you can do... Try contacting potential employers in the NT via email. You can ask about the employment situation in your occupation/industry. Be professional, ask only what's related to your employability. Hopefully you will get a couple of positive responses. Who knows you may even get a job offer. Then include your email correspondence in your application as an attachment. This should make the NT people know your seriousness and hopefully get you a grant. Generally speaking, work on all aspects of your NT SS application especially the commitment statement. I'd also get more job adverts that makes a stronger case for my employability. Good luck next time. NB: which occupation do you want to assess for again?
  13. Hi @sana, I have recently applied for NT SS and from what I've read, you need to take the application seriously even though the NT is mostly regarded as regional area. So take your application seriously especially the commitment statement. Those that have been rejected probably didn't. Most times NT will bump applicants from 190 to 489 rather than outright rejection. NT department of business told me I can use a sponsor's account, but they should be close family members (parents or siblings) and it should be in withrawable cash NOT assets. In addition, your sponsor(s) will write a signed letter stating their commitment to support you financially. What I have done regarding contacts is directly contacting employers in the NT via email. I was able to get a couple of responses. So you can include this email correspondence in your application as a separate attachment to proof you have made contact with people. I guess the most important advice is to take your application seriously and do everything diligently. Good luck...
  14. Oh wOw, only 28 days! Thanks for this info. I submitted my EOI already. Contacting potential employers now. I should have my commitment statement ready by the weekend. Then I can apply for NT SS... Thanks @cjenky
  15. Good advice there @cjenky. I'll find a directory of construction industry employers in the NT and make contact, hope I get a positive response like you. I think I'm going to take a leap of faith and leave out the 489 in my EOI. I haven't started writing the commitment statement yet. I'll do that when I cover all bases. But I'm definitely convinced it's going to be NT for me :-) Please how long do I need to wait after lodging my EOI before applying for NT SS? Thanks for the encouragement. Cheers...
  16. Interesting. Lucky you. If only there was a job waiting for me :-) So what if I leave out 489 on my EOI and get bumped to 189? Can I still change this in my EOI? Any implications? I have 60 points with a 190 sponsorship. However no family ties whatsoever #sigh How's life treating you in Darwin so far? Did you make the move yet?
  17. I am filling the EOI now, I don't know if I should select both 190 and 489 or just go for 190 only. I don't wanna get bumped to 489...
  18. Thanks cjenky. I am filling the EOI now, I don't know if I should select both 190 and 489 or just go for 190 only. I don't want to get bumped to 489. My family will be providing the financial evidence (still working on that), I'm 26 using all my earnings to fund this PR application. I hope the NT people grant me a sponsorship regardless. Did you get your NT SS yet?
  19. Thanks Samulv. This is insightful. I'll lodge my EOI immediately. I also think having lodged the EOI first (and selecting NT only) will tell the NT people I am serious about living in the NT. How much time do I need to wait after lodging EOI before applying for NT SS? How are you and your family finding the NT since moving last December? Are you living in Darwin or someplace else? From what I gathered, I'll need to make a convincing argument in my statement. Any hints about weekly cost of living would help a lot. Thanks again.
  20. Hi ValentinaAU, Did you move yet to Darwin? Please share your experiences so far. How's the job situation in Architecture? Thanks.
  21. Hi Becky, Why don't you apply for PR under subclass 190. If you say your occupation is on the CSOL, I assume you are referring to Architectural Draftsperson (ANZSCO code 312111). Unfortunately, the occupation is only sponsored by ACT, NT and Tasmania. So I don't think you will be able to work in Melbourne for the first two years of you choose this PR route. Good luck
  22. Hi, My nominated occupation is Architectural Draftsperson (ANZSCO code 312111). I*wish to apply for NT SS next week. I have my positive assessment result from VETASSESS. And IELTS 7+ in all bands. I'm not sure if I should lodge my skillselect EOI first or apply for NT SS first. Please advise me which is better and why. And if I don't have the required minimum (AU$ 35,000) in financial capacity, what are my chances of getting NT SS? Thanks mcadam
  23. Hi guys, I've read through the thread and gained a lot on the 190 application process. Thank you all for your invaluable contributions.
