Once I have ticked off the ACT next month I will have visited all, lived in two (soon to become three) and yes they all vary.  Different rules, different laws, different sayings, different words (much the same as in Britain in that respect of course)  For example though, you could go up to a Pub counter in South Australia, order a "pint" and they would know exactly what you would mean and that is what you'd get.  However, do the same in Western Australia for Victoria for instance and you could well get a confused look...

Well put in the post above that Australia is a franchise.  But, for the size of a country it isn't surprising and they do not differ anywhere near as much as the United States do.

I've never had a confused look ordering a pint in WA... now SA you order a pint and then they're confused with their two different types ;)

They want to know what you had for breakfast and your first born child too.  WA are extremely strict on category A documents.

I went to transfer my NSW license over with 2 passports (Australian and Irish) bank cards, utility bills, medicare card, lease, NSW license and it still wasn't enough.

If you are a citizen and were born in Australia, they want your birth cert, born overseas, they want your citizenship certificate.  I'm on my second Aussie passport (ie citizen 10 years +) and this is the only time I have been asked for my citizenship certificate (which I lost years ago) apart from my first Australian  passport.

Immigration and border control accept an Australian passport as proof of Australian citizenship but not the WA Department of Transport.

They have the list on their website, the Category A documents are the crucial ones, the others are fairly routine.

I think you must've seen someone who didn't know what they were doing!

Hi @nastasia reading the post that @Skani kindly shared I can't see any problems using your UK license If your visa was granted offshore and according to your initial post you haven't lived in Australia. Can I ask, are you moving over for good?

Vicroads use to be terrible and didn't know the guidelines themselves and every time you called you would get a different answer. Back then it was wrote that you had to change within 6 months of getting your PR, so if you got your visa grant letter in January you had to have a Vic license in July even if you only arrive in July,  thankfully they have made it clearer these days but it's still not set in stone.

TBH if you are only here on holiday I don't see any issues with driving on a UK license. When we changed our UK license to a VicRoads license they put a hole punch through our UK license making it invalid so you definitely don't want this to happen.

That's quite concerning that they put a hole through your UK license. They don't have a remit to null documentation issued by a different country you're a citizen of or to remove it from you.

What I think they've misunderstood is that if you change to a Vic license from a different state that is when they do that to your old license. In WA they remove it from you at the point of giving your new license - but only in the case of it being a license issued by a different state.

  4. I have to say I find it amusing how some of you never see any spiders including red backs despite living here for years. Must be city dwelling :)

I can say that this year alone in Albany WA I've seen a couple of dozen red backs and a few wolf spiders whilst doing the garden. When at work in Wagin (country WA) I couldn't even begin to list how many red backs I've seen. See a few huntsmen a year and white tail spiders too.

So they are there. But I know when I first came over I was paranoid about spiders and would check the corners of rooms etc when I went in them. Now I don't even worry, infact the Red Back siting on the garage roll door I've just left there to happily while away her life until she moves...

Not to mention the Christmas spiders and golden orb spiders I've seen too...

Surprisingly I've not been bit and I don't know anyone who has been bit in the past few years that I've been here.

And like the above, I'll take the spiders over the stink bugs!

So UK is still a bit tougher even with the new regs.

Really there is not a lot of difference among comparable countries, maybe a year here or there.

Not particularly, the UK asks for 5 years resident in the country of which one of those years must be 'indefinite leave to remain'. So it's one extra year over the old regs (or as they currently are with the freeze).

new regs here (if they pass) will just mean all your non permanent residency won't count towards being able to get citizenship.

You doubt anyone's lives in jeopardy? Are you waiting? Are you waiting offshore with all their problems? It is easy to say to you to wait unless you are in their desperate position you will start realising/understanding things.

Unfortunately the original quote is correct. I understand what you went through but your life is not in jeopardy. but it is extremely annoying and has your life on hold effectively.

Thanks everyone. We have advice from many agents and our visa specialist at our employer in Australia we can get perm residency via TSS stream using 187/6 visa using employer sponsorship. I have all the info I need ?

Is your job on the four year TSS visa list?

If you can share a snippet of news it might help other people in the same situation :)

It's the TSS scheme which will lead to a permanent residency being as the employer will be offering a permanent position. Thanks for all your help. We have now found all the information we need. ??

If your job is on the STL list then it's not a route to permanent residence. the TSS visa has two streams and the STL list occupations are only valid for a 2 year temp visa.

  9. Thank yo so much for your response, I thought like that too but my MA told 3 yrs for main applicant and only 12 months for secondary applicant which dnt make sense.

    nomination 6th April 2016

    visa 7th April 2016

    no news at all..

    status says received

I'm near enough in the same boat as yourself - my visa/nomination were both on 2nd April 2016.

Two declarations requested this morning in regards to payment of visa (apparently a new things they require)

    Documents sent this morning..

Now we wait!!!!! Feels so close now guys, please keep fingers crossed for us.

Seems like you've won half the battle!! Fingers crossed. It seems like March is being processed for a rather long time! I'm just a month out from you.

    Visa applied 2nd April 2016

    LR 1 person

    Office Manager

No further information has been requested or anything yet.

Although I did sign a declaration at the time of the visa last year with regards to payment. I rmemeber at the time it being rather new so some MA's may not have come across it yet.

  11. Dont think about it too much. If its for you its for you. Just provide all information requested. Just did mine myself hopefully it would be enough.

I wasn't really worried, just providing some info to others backing up the difference between TRN and DE 187 visas.

  12. I think they are processing th transition stream first because thats the priority but slow on other like DE. My mate applied on last week June 2016 but got a result early Feb. Im waiting mine applied August 2016 on Transition stream.

Yup it looks that way. At my place two people received their PR Friday/Monday just gone and they're both on Transition from 457 and applied mid July 2016.

I've applied DE on 2nd April 2016 (LR, Onshore) and yet to hear or have any information requested.

  13. If you have an immi account you can import it to your account. You just need some details from your application and it will show you your application. This doesn't affect your application or your MA's control on the application. At least it allows you to see the status and if any documents have been requested etc.

  14. Hi Spleenus

I have been wondering the same thing but unfortunately myself and my partner are both LR and currently on our 8th month of waiting, so really, I think that the time in which the case is opened is the same with HR/LR however perhaps the processing time/further information required can vary between the two.

Yup I was wondering the same thing too. I'm just about to get to my 8th month of waiting and from a LR country. I'm a single applicant. It's just that I saw on the spreadsheet that there are some people from LR countries who are receiving their PR from the march/April period.
