  1. Hello Tony. I am just wondering if your letter is like the one we had on acknowledgement of our 143 visa application. Our letter asked for form 80 to be completed immediately. There were further dates for medicals/police checks and AOS. We have to wait until asked before we send our police checks. Maybe the letter format has changed yet again, it is not always that clear as to the sequencing, probably someone else on this wonderful site will have further ideas!☺️

    Hi All

Here is a part of the reply we had today.

This is so called “switcher” application whereby your parents decided to switch from a non-contributory parent application lodged under subclass 103 (low cost, long wait) to a contributory subclass 143 visa application (high cost, short wait). Switcher applications are given a priority in accordance with the Ministerial direction with rationale being that we should encourage people waiting in the long visa 103 queue to pay more money and get their visa earlier if they decide to switch to a 143 visa. Different waiting periods apply to applicants who lodge 143 visa application straight away – these have to wait 18 months for allocation for assessment.

Well we didn't know this, hope the house sell quickly.

  2. hi Tony

Is does seem to be extraordinarily quick - You're not already in possession of a 173 visa are you ?

Hi All, Thanks for the replies. We were on Visa 103 but cancel that and when on to CPV143. We made an offshore application. House going up for sale next week, we have email PVC to ask about our time line. Will keep you all up to date as and when we know:wub:

  3. Tony, it looks like its your turn! I reckon they must be ready to grant your visa as police and medicals are only valid for a year. AoS can take a while depending on where your sponsor lives so I advise getting on with that first then make the appointment for your medical. Police checks only take a few days.

You could be looking at an early new year grant, well done!

    Cheers Val

Thanks Val, what happen to 12 to 18 months waiting time I haven't sold our house yet :arghh:

  4. Hi Amanda, this is the second time, first was to tell me they had got my first payment and this one has got on it what I need to do next AoS, Medial, Police check and I need Form 80. But reading what all the others have gone through we have a lot of time to do what is ask of us.

Its all new to us as well that why people like us are reading this great forum.

    Hope this helps.

    Tony

  5. Our 143 (offshore) was lodged 18 June 2014 and we've not received formal acknowledgement yet, only the initial e-mail with receipt, at end of August 2014. I hope ours comes through this week. I wonder how this works then, if not in order of lodgement date. Lucky you Tony :-)

    Hi Amanda

I'm sorry if I've got it wrong but my email say

Dear Mr DriscollAcknowledgement of receipt – Parent subclass 143 (Contributory Parent – Migrant) visa.

    Tony

  6. Hi Tony, Basically, its five years although you do have to go there to validate within a year. After that you can come and go. We got our CPV143 in 2012 and we are still here in the uk. On our grant letter is says October 2017.

Unsold house, good jobs and aged parents are still keeping us here for now. If we win the lottery it might be a different story (haha!)

    Besf of luck! Val

Thanks Val for the quick reply, A year that's okay, We think end of 2015 for the visa late 2016 move to Australia.

  7. Hi all!

Once you have put in the application for a 143 parent visa, can you stay longer than three months as a visitor while it is going through? I noticed you can no longer apply for a 676, does anyone know if there is a relacement for this?

Hi All, Sorry about this but I've today put in an application 143 CPV are you saying when you get an acknowledgement then wait about 6 month or a year you can then go over on a 600 visa which last for 1 year then just stay in Australia till your 143 as go through all its processes.

  8. I assume you mean you have applied for the normal 103 parent visa which is not contributory and are waiting? Unfortunately, there is not other option than the 173/143 route. If you apply for the 173 first, you need to apply for the 143 after 2 years. This only allows you to split the cost, and actually may cost a little more than going for the 143 straight off as the visa charge will be the one in force at the time of application. When you are granted the 173 you need to pay just over half the final VAC ( don't have the exact figures to hand but its on the link I gave you). When you then apply for the 143 you then have to stump up the remainder of the second VAC and the AOS.

Unfortunately, you need to be over 65 to be able to apply for the CPV onshore and there is no bridging visa option for the offshore 143. If you apply for the 173 then you could stay in Australia for 2 years till you apply for the 143. Not sure if you are planning to work in Australia, but I would just like to add that it is often difficult for older migrants to find work.

    thanks for the help.

  9. Sorry for the typo - I am sure you know by now that it's $46,300 pp (trying to type with granddaughter leaning on my knee!)

I don't think they are trying to hide it, it's just that the visa charges table is not in a very clear format any longer - used to be much clearer than it is now. That's why it's the 'Contributory' parent visa - and it is getting very expensive now unfortunately.

    I need any ideas

Contributory Parent visa 143 lots of money,

what about getting Contributory Parent temp visa not sure about the price and would we have to pay the 143 in full after 2yrs ?

we are on CPV 103 at the moment, we are 54 yrs young what about a bridging visa (not sure myself).

    many thanks.
