Just an update about my citizenship ceremony with the Sutherland Shire council.

30th July ceremony - canceled due to the lockdown

27th August ceremony - canceled due to the lockdown

I received a text message from the council that they are sending invites for the virtual ceremonies soon.

I am still waiting for my invite.

Hang in there everyone, we will finish strong soon.

    Hi, Congrats!

Can I ask when was your application approved? I am also in the Shire, but have no sign of ceremony as yet.

Hello everyone, I am from regional SA applied yesterday for citizenship. What is in interview? How long its taking on SA? And my husband have limited english is there any way he can prepare for test easier. Sorry for many questions in first post. Thanks in advance

Hi, I recently had my interview in NSW. The interview was pretty short.  It seemed the main point of the interview is to check some of the paperwork that you included in your application. They asked to look at my drivers license, passport and took a copy of the police check I had to get (because I had spent time outside Australia).

Honestly, I would describe the test as an English test. I suspect people's understanding of English is a large part of what is actually being tested. The questions are fairly straight forward, and if you have read 'Our Common Bond', everything is in there. Your husband can do practice tests online, but I found that the questions they asked were not necessarily linked to the 'Our Common Bond' booklet. ALL of the questions in the actual test were.

These were the sites I used to practice:

    1. easydrivingtest.com.au

    2. citizenshiptestaustralia.com.au

    3. theaustraliantest.com

    4. assiecitizenshiptest.com

    5. free-australian-citizenship-test.musitrature.com

    6. aussian.com

On the upside, he will likely have a couple of months to prepare.

Quick one - do I need to learn the words of the National Anthem off by heart? It's in the testable section but I was just the pits at learning poems or lyrics off by heart in school, so it's giving me flash backs. I can mumble along fairly well, but not a chance of reciting the whole thing under pressure 😁

In my test I was asked for the title of the Anthem.  No practice test I tried anywhere had questions on the lyrics. I am also dreadful at memorising them so I didn't try.

Like other posters have said, know the values section, memorise the dates of federation etc. You should be set.

    Good luck!

Hey guys, have only ever posted on this site to inform others of timelines as I have found it useful whilst silently browsing these forums.

  5. Hi All,

I was hoping for a bit of advice.

My wife and I will be heading to Australia in January and are looking to rent out our London flat. We have linked in with a letting agent and have found tennants, but are at a bit of a loss in regards to the tax implications.

We have been advised to get an accountant, but we have also been adviserd to not get an accountant.

We have been advised to send a P85 form to HMRC, but (can you guess where this is going) we have been advised froma different source not to bother.

Had anyone been through this process and have any advice on the best course of action?

    Thanks

    Ronan

  6. Hi All,

Random query - I have a 100 visa (which I validated with a trip earlier this month) and my Mrs and I will be moving over in April '16.

My passport to which the visa is linked is a chip one, but the chip doesn't work (meaning I can't get through the quick gates at bloomin Heathrow). It also comes up every time I clear passport control in the UK as they can't get the passport to scan.

I will contact immi.gov.au and my passport office to sort it, but I was oondering of anyone knew whether there would be as issue with me replacing my passport with a new one. I am worried that my visa is linked to my current PP and that replacing it would result in a different PP number and issues with the visa.

Like I say, I will contact the office query lines, I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge of this sort of thing.

    Cheers

    Ronan

  7. Hi All,

My wife and I are just planning for our move at the end of the year and have been gathering shipping quotes.

We went for three quotes, one from each of:

    John Mason

    Bournes

    Doree Bonner

The quotes have come in practically identical in regards to cost. We are moving from London to Sydney, and at the moment we think that Doree Bonner came across best when we met them, but John Mason is London based (we need to get the house packed, but deliver a suitcase of winter clothes 2 weeks later) and they gave lots of advice about getting our things ready.

At the moment we are favouring John Mason, but were interested if anyone has feedback on the three (specifically of there is any reason to avoid any of them).

    Thanks

    Ronan

  8. Oh dear that's a bit of a worry. I did not email them my police check but simply added it to my online submission documents once it was completed - can anyone advise if this is the right thing to do - or should I have emailed it to them separately also?

I think you will be fine. I did not have an online application - mine was completed at home and posted off. But the good news is that I have had an email that my CO now has the document. Back to waiting though...

  9. Ronansmyth, just to let you know, we also had RN. As I'm sure you know she doesn't work many hours each week. We received an email at the very end of her work week saying that it's in the final stages of being processed and wanted to confirm that the entry date for the visa is acceptable. We said sure, but it still took another week to receive the visa. We didn't chase it like some people have though given our flights are at the 10.5 mark.

Hi HelloAgain, yeah, I know about her hours. I have tried not to contact her during the wait (other than to send requested info). Seems like you will get yours really soon. How long was it from application to grant for you?

  10. My husbands visa was granted today. He got the 100 straight off. 8 months and 18 days for us. We emailed our CO last week as his Police clearance expires at the start of February and received a reply to say that the Visa would be granted this week or next week and true to her word it has arrived just now. We have flights booked for next month, our son has been enrolled in his new school and our boxes are here waiting to be packed so we best get on with it :)

    That is great news! Congratulations!

    Who is your CO?
