  1. Thank you Que Sera, Sera now I can get him to do the online application. one more question, do you know if you pay online with the application or at the interview??
  2. I've been thinking about both these issues myself as we've planned to leave in July next year. So technically we should be able to do our tax as normal depending on what date we actually go though you may find more specific answers on the ATO site. It says if you are leaving permanently before the end of a tax year you should be able to file your tax return early. I'm assuming you'd just contact the ATO or an accountant when you're ready. as for centrelink benefits as the rebate is usually given once you file your tax return I'd assume you'd just have to show them that you've filed with the ATO and they would then sort it out. here are the two pages I've found useful: https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/International-tax-for-individuals/Going-overseas/When-you-leave-Australia/ and http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/outside-australia hope that helped you some.
  3. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the citizenship process works?? my husband is going to be getting his soon so we have it if we decide to ever come back but due to his long work hours I need to plan everything (I'm also an organisation freak ) So the test he has to do is it part of the online application? so once he clicks 'apply now' does he fill out his information and then do the test? or will he be given a time to do the test at a later date? i know we'll also have to wait for our local council to make a ceremony date but is there anything else to it?? thanks in advance:)
  4. Thanks for both your opinions. id be willing to bet the agency wouldn't put it in writing. she said they get a lot of their clients to do it and the agency seems to be one of the bigger name ones but it still seemed like she knew it would not be approved by immigration. we won't be doing it ourselves however easier it may make the transition, I'm a much too paranoid a personality to attempt it
  5. I have another thread running but didn't want this question to be lost in the middle. id like opinions on the following if you have them.... i spoke to a visa agency to gain some insight on what is required for the spouse visa and they suggested the following. if we have family in the UK who have their own business, have them write a letter of offer of employment for my husband, stating an annual salary that meets the financial requirement and with a start date with in the required time frame. There is no need for him to actually take the job but just use the letter to help gain the visa. now it seems a bit wrong to me but I'm curious to know if this is actually done by people and if it passes through inspection. naturally it would make things a lot easier and a lot less stressful but as I said it sounds wrong and I'd be worried they would call us out. what does everyone think? thank you
  6. Starlight7 we can go back to the Hereford/leominster area as we have a lot of family there but it will all depend on where my husband can get a job.
  7. Marisawright - the address bit is probably my biggest stress at the moment. It's a catch 22 you can't get the visa without the address but you can't get an address without a visa, fingers crossed and hoping for a miracle as for our stuff we'll be taking a few things. I have a rather large Disney collection that I'm shipping in parts to a friend to store for me and my husband has a collection of his own that we'll do the same with but apart from that we're not very materialistic people and we do love thrift shopping. To be honest I'm looking forward at starting from scratch with a whole new country of thrift stores to explore
  8. Thank you all for your replies. beach pig my mother is not coming with us, in fact getting away from her is a huge bonus to moving, harsh I know but we're not close. She is deciding to be difficult about having to move though. petals I've had a couple of trips to the UK and I know I love it there, as do our kids. We realise there will be a settling in period for sure, a lot of things will be different but we're going to give it a try. the reason we are not going till next July is to make sure we have enough put aside in savings to cover anything that comes up. It's not a decision we decided on over night, it's been in the books for a few years and now we've just settled on a date. Thank you for being the voice of reason lady rainicorn i have lists coming out my ears it's frustrating me that there is so much to do but nothing I can really do right now. We have been thinking about looking into private rentals, do you think it would be just as hard as going through an agent? I was hoping a private rental would be happy with seeing references and such and may not require 6 months in advance. we just took my cat to the vet for his check up and we sadly had to make an appointment to have him put to sleep, I feel terrible I thought he was just getting fussy with old age I didn't realise he was so unwell we'll be getting my husbands citizenship process started soon as I know local councils can make you wait months for a ceremony. marisawright we have looked into the costs for and against shipping everything and selling everything. Really for us it just seemed easier to sell it all and slowly start over once in the UK. It might be harder than we imagine but it's one decision we are happy with. with using your sisters address, did you actually physically stay with her or just use her address to get the visa? Also was the address within the same area as the job you listed? i ask because we have family in Herefordshire who have enough room to pass the address requirement but my husband isn't likely to get a job in the area. Do you think we could still use a family members address or would that raise red flags?? thank you all again for your help and advice:)
  9. We won't be submitting my visa application until my husband has found a job in the UK. Given his lengthy employment in Oz the new job will then help us meet the financial requirements. The only thing to do then is find a rental, again we won't submit my application until we have that as we'll need the address - something I'm still looking into. so Once we've got all that the requirements won't be an issue.
  10. Ok I need anything you can throw at me, that's positive preferably, please. we are moving back to the UK in around 12 months. my husband is british, our two children we wil be getting British passports for. I'll need to apply for spouse visa. meeting the requirements shouldn't be an issue but the whole process is stressing me out. then there is the fact that we need to find my mother other accommodation - she currently lives with us. sell everything we own as we aren't taking anything but clothes and a few sentimental items. Find our dog a new home and quite possibly have to put down my twenty year old cat. find my husband a job in the UK. Figure out schooling options for our children Work out a time line of when to do what. is there anyone who has been a renter here in Oz and had to go through this process, I feel the circumstances are different to those that own and I could really do with hearing some similar stories. or does anyone have any general advice to offer? I'm all ears TIA
  11. Hi, I would love to have someone else to talk with about this process. we are looking at going back to the UK in 12 months. my husband is British, our two kids we are getting british passports for and I'll need a spouse visa. jaynemw we also succesfully got my husband PR status without any agency help so I'm going to attempt the spouse visa without any either - especially since finding out how much they charge in agency fees - I'm confident we shouldn't have a problem. my stress is coming from having to find my husband a job, figure out a time line to settle up here, find my mother who currently lives with us other accommodation...the list goes on
  12. Thank you all for your help. I'm really hoping the Hungarian passport option works out as it does sound so much easier. I have to admit I'm baffled that any member of the EU can enter the UK and start working and living but a member of a commonwealth nation has to jump through hoops with all appendages crossed. from what I've read Hungary has changed things recently to make citizenship by ancestry easier so I'll just need all my dad's details and I should be in the clear. I'm pretty sure having to do it via spouse visa would mean we would be staying in Oz
  13. Hi, I'm after some information from those who may know. I've had a few looks through the immigration pages but I'm just not understanding it. My husband is English and I am Australian. We met in the UK in 2007 and he moved to Australia so we could be together. We are now married and have two young children and are looking at moving to the UK in about 3 years when both the kids are at school age. my father is Hungarian so I think this entitles me to apply for a Hungarian passport meaning I'd be an EU member if it would be easier to go that way. can anyone explain in laymans terms (I'm still suffering baby brain) how it works? Would my husband have to live and work in England for 6 months prior to me arriving or are we able to all move at the same time but then have to wait 6 months before I could apply for my visa? Do our children require a visa to stay? If they have a UK passport does that answer change? thank you for any help you can offer.
