  1. Hi do you know if an AQUIS vet has to administer the rabies injection?
  2. Hi, we may have to return to the uk fairly soon so I'm trying to get things sorted just in case. I have got 1 quote so far.. Will be getting a few more. Was more than I thought. We need to find a cheaper quote/way or we won't be able to take her. We are 7 hrs ish from Brisbane but could drive her there so she didn't have an extra Australian flight. Anyone done this? Do they have to stay over night in the transporters kennels? Our dog is a kelpie x 18kg not very big (small collie size) I thought I could organise her rabies jab with our vet but they seem to think that an AQUIS accredited vet has to do this?!? (We live in Central Queensland nearest AQUIS vet is 3 hrs away). Anybody know if this is correct? Sorry for the dumb questions.
  3. Hi everyone? We are trying to cover all bases so are wishing to find out about taking our dog to the uk from Australia. I've just called our vet and they think that an AQUIS accredited vet (which they are not) has to give the rabies vaccine.. Is this correct? She is already micro chipped which was done when she was a pup.. Again not by an AQUIS vet?!? Sorry if this is a dumb Q didn't bring pets when we came out so know nothing about shipping them.
  4. We have been using the Medicare system as in the event our health insurance covered very little. It's good to know that as an adult she would receive the same kind if care.
  5. Thank you for all the support and info. I have pm'd George Lombard for his advice. Unfortunately there isn't much they can do for her treatment wise thus far. She is on some medication to deal with some of the symptoms and is now much better than she was. Lethargy and mood swings aside. But what teenager doesn't have those. Due to it's placement it cannot be tested or removed. They believe it to be benign so it won't respond to chemo or radiotherapy. If it is a dnet which is what the brain surgeon thinks it's the 1st he's ever seen. They are rare. Slow growing. Hopefully won't ever.
  6. We gave up a lot to be here in the first place. Primarily for our children and the brighter future we hoped they could/would have here. We still feel despite my husband and I homesickness which is immense at times, that Australia is the best place for them. They love it here. As adults with worries like possibly not being able to get health insurance for our eldest in the future and replaying over and over all the possible scenarios it's not so clear cut. We love Australia, the blue sky and the warmth of the sun has somehow got us through even the darkest of days... So far.
  7. Hi all. My my family and I came out on a 457 visa 2years ago. We came knowing that lafha was soon to end for us but with the promise from my husbands sponsoring company that something ?!? Would be put in it's place. So they then waited til 2weeks past the 6 months to inform us that they were replacing it with nothing. Blow no 1. Around the same time our youngest child became ill and was diagnosed with a heart condition. It was a worrying time . Thankfully it is looking like he won't need surgery just monitoring. blow 2. So we got through that and my husbands homesickness. He changed role started to enjoy his new job. Our middle child then broke his collar bone. 6 weeks off school! i got a job. By this time we were in our 3rd rental and this one was about to go on the market too so we were having to move again. 3 houses in 1 year. May last year our eldest started being sick having head aches etc. It took nearly 5 months of tests and her wasting away to finally find she has a brain tumour. Blow3. then started what felt like endless trips to the hospital in Brisbane. We go again in a week. It's thought to be non cancerous. She has no epileptic activity. It may or may not be a dnet. Unfortunately due to where it is it cannot be biopsied without potentially changing her detrimentally so she is having scans every few months to watch it. It may never grow again, might never change but ATM there is no way to know what the future hiolds. I wanted to go home when she was so sick . Being in hospital with her 7 hrs away from my husband and other children was so hard. Not having any support each time we go to hospital. It is getting easier. The house we are now renting has been sold and the new owners want us out before the end if our lease . Blow 4 we have been here a year. So now we are nearly at our 2 years here. My husbands employers had promised to put us through for pr and because of the whole situ over lafha had said they would pay.. Blow 5. They will put us forward but we have to pay. So obviously I'm quite aware that due to the health issues that have arisen since we arrived here getting pr is not going to be easy. I've just been on the immi site to find you don't get the results of your medicals until you lodge your visa so for us it's an $8000+ gamble. Are we stupid to even try? Our house in the uk is also currently going through surveys etc we have very nearly sold it?! We don't know what to do.. It's unlikely we would be able to buy a home like that ever again in the uk. Our friends and family keep telling us our luck will change but so far it's been 2 years of disasters beginning to end :0(. There were other stupid things like on my husbands trip back to the uk he crashed the hire car before leaving the car park.. The kids trips to ER... My trips to ER lol.
