  1. Nice one! Thanks for that.
  2. Just wandering what happens with getting your hand tools to oz. We wouldn't be getting a container as we are probably just going to get rid of everything from the house here. Can you take your tools with you as luggage or is it better to ship them. Would it be worth just shipping my tools on their own or cheaper to buy new in oz? Rough price if anyone has already shipped tools over(just as an idea) Are power tools reasonably priced, or is it worth just trying to get hold of new chargers for battery stuff? Any info would be appreciated. Thanx !
  3. Hopfully making the move in jan 2015, been looking on autotrader oz and seems that people in oz look after there cars a lot more than over here in the uk. I know I've not seen them up close but they do look mint and low mileage too. Just wondering if anyone has bought a runaround to begin with and what the running costs are including fuel, maintenance ,tax and all that.
  4. Thanks for feedback everyone, I'm still in the uk at the moment and all this is quite new. Hoping to be out there in the new year. Just want as much info now to make it as easy as possible for when I get there. The visas will be sorted through my wifes company so no issue there, just want to hit the ground running. It's going to be gold coast sort of area, but not to bothered about traveling if it's covered with the wages. Just an idea with the mines but didn't really understand what a chippys role would be. I've had a look into getting my qualification recognised(nvq level 3 in carpentry and joinery) and its about 1300 pounds does this sound about right? As I don't want to paying for somthing I don't need, plus I can do it in uk before I get there giving me a head start. Willing to do anything really at first, is there anything else that's worth doing over here to give me a better chance of finding a job when get over. Thanks again everyone you've all been really helpful.
  5. Thank you, I'm in Blackburn at the moment so Preston would be perfect, only 15 mins away. Will have a look into that! thanks again, great help.
  6. Thanks for that pal, that's a great help I'll have a look over the weekend. Thought it was going to be a lot easier to find out info about the trade. Still it's early days just want to make it as easy as possible for when I get there. Thanks again and good luck with the move!
  7. Does anyone know what sort of work is involved with being a carpenter in the mines. I'm a self employed chippy who is used to working on weird and wonderful jobs and not scared of a good graft! Is it as hard work getting your foot in the door as everyone says and what can you do to stand out being a carpenter in the mines. Was wondering what fees you need to pay to be taken seriously when applying for jobs as everything seems to be dumper truck drivers and not anything to do with carpentry. Really am interested to find out what the role of a carpenter in the mining industry is all about. Any info would be really great full, thanks

  10. Me and the wife have a chance of moving to Queensland early next year, visas are sorted through her work and she has a job waiting. I'm a joiner who works for myself and was wondering what I can do here in the uk to give me a head start with work over there. I've had a quick look into getting my qualification recognised and it looks to be around 1300 pound does this sound correct? Has anyone been through this and if so how have you found the work, wages, hours and heat. I've been told its frowned upon to work weekends but obviously would be willing to do whatever hours are needed to bring the money in. idealy I would like to be self employed, is there plenty of agency work and does it pay well? also has anyone brought their tools with them and at what cost. any info at all would be really helpful as I can't seem to find any recent posts on the building trade at all!
  11. Hi my wife and I could have the chance of packing up and moving to Queensland within her company. Visas would be sorted for both of us. I'm a joiner who has my own company and would welcome any advise on getting my qualification recognised over there. What can I do here in England to get the ball rolling to get working soon as possible. Is there plenty of work in this area and does anyone know what working conditions are like, for example hours, wages, weekends, and how much does it cost to get you qualification recognised, just started researching really but seems to be about 1300 pounds. Does this sound accurate? Any advise and tales of your own experience would be a great help (so don't hold back, good and bad) Please help!
