  1. Yes - we have a budget of $1k pw. Not so keen on Bondi itself - would prefer a little more community feel if possible...
  2. Hi again. We've look at Northern Beaches / Chatswood etc, but now it looks like my son might end up at school in Bondi, which means we might look to live Eastern / Southern suburbs, which could cut down my comment time to Ultimo. I know that the Bronte/Clovelly etc get good reviews, but can anyone advise me on other good family neighbourhoods? Thank you!
  3. Hi. We are moving from the UK in October; I am looking for an area to rent where there is a good community feel, cafes and shops, within a 30 - 40 min commute of central Sydney. Budget is reasonable ($1k week). We also need to be near a co-ed school for my son to attend yr 11 & 12. The schools we are looking (private and state) at are in these areas: Chatswood Killara Epping Macquarie Fields West Ryde Oxford Falls Mosman Parramatta Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations? Many thanks!
  4. Hi. Advice please re schools. We are moving from the UK in October; I am looking for a co-ed school for my son to attend yr 11 & 12. Looking at public and private, but on 457 visa, so lots of state schools won't take him it seems. I'm crossing off Newington, Redlands and Barker as they are around $30k fees. Possible (cheaper!) alternatives are: - Arden Anglican - St Luke's Grammar - Interantional Grammer - Northern Beaches Christian - Oxford Falls On the state side, looking at: - Chatswood High - Killara High - Carlingford High - Ryde Secondary - Mosman High - Parramatta High We will rent in the area that best suits the school - and a good commute to Central Sydney. Train under 30 mins or so would be the ideal. Does anyone have any first hand experience/thoughts/recommendations? Many thanks.
  5. Thank you - we're going to do some driving around! It's hard to get a flavour for neighbourhoods as it's different to the UK. Ideally we'd like to be in a place with a community feel and be able to walk to cafes/bar, but also have a reasonably quick commute to CBD. Kelvin Grove seems to take in some good areas. We'll also look around Indooroopilly - are there better areas than others here? Thanks all!
  6. Thank you - this sounds interesting as he is very maths/science inclined. We'll certainly check it out.
  7. First visit to Poms in Oz, having arrived in Brisbane this week from the UK, on a recce with a view to relocating. Our son has just tuned 16 and finished his GCEs last month. We're looking at schools and would like advice/recommendations. He was at private school in the UK, but we're looking at State Highs here - Brisbane State High, Indooroopilly, Kelvin Grove and The Gap look like good schools. Where we decide to live will be largely determined by catchment areas for the school. I'd really like and advice with regards to nice neighbourhoods to live - we'll also be looking for relatively easy comment into CBD. Thanks all!
