  1. Hi there I've seen a few people seem to get direct grants when they apply for visas? what does this mean exactly? I guess you still need to do medicals and police checks? Is it just that no further info is required and no communication required? Thanks in advance for answers x Maz
  2. Hi all, I see that the immi site have mentioned a few jobs that are going on to the new sol list and I just wondered if anyone knows if this is it or if the 1st July is likely to show some other changes. Also wondering if anyone knows if the various states change their websites on 1st july and open up previously closed off codes or if its likely to take longer or stay as they are. Despite my hubbys job being recommended for the SOL list by various bodies it doesn't seem to have moved, gutted
  3. thanks guys, we will look at the degree aspect again, yes we provided the transcript, degree is in media technology which is of course very general but all of his electives were programming and such like, we knew that it would not be closely linked but thought it would be still classed as i.t major. Problem is with older degrees - 1998 in our case, a lot of the topics are nonexistent now because of the changing nature of I.T. Starting to realise now why people use agents thanks for all the input.
  4. thanks for the replies, sorry its been my sons birthday so hectic weekend. Other half wasn't originally claiming to be support engineer but a security specialist which is what he does now for a bank. We did indeed read the guidelines but they have deemed his degree to have only an ICT minor not a major which we thought would be fairly evident. Not sure whether there is much point contesting this? Stupidly as we assumed the degree would translate he only included 10 yrs work history when he does have more, expensive lesson learned!
  5. Hi all husband recieved his ACS result today, after changing anzsco as per their suggestion he has the following written on his assessment, but then the first job that follows goes back to aug 2003, which we would hope counts but not sure what the relevance of March 2010 is as that is not the start date of any subsequent jobs?? : The following employment after March 2010 is considered to equate to work at an appropriately skilled level and relevant to 263212 (ICT Support Engineer) of the ANZSCO Code. Dates: 08/03 - 08/08 (5yrs 0mths) Position: Group ICT Infrastructure Manager etc etc Anyone have any ideas on the relevance of this as we certainly hope they are not going to only count 4 years experience when he has been working in I.T for over 15yrs?
  6. hey all, just wondering where everyone is at on their journeys. ACS wrote to my husband to say that even though he is a security specialist for a bank that they recommend he apply for a different code/title, asked them why and explained he couldn't be any more in i.t security and they just said apply for the other code or you will be unsuccessful - very helpful! So we are going to have to go with that and hope it works out though it seems a little bizarre and hope that all his work experience is counted. He is also sitting his ielts on saturday again as he was 0.5 off getting an 8 in reading. We are waiting for July to see his if his occupation currently on the CSOL list will be added to the SOL list, ACS have recommended it and for us everything is hanging on the balance of this. If it goes on we aim to do EOI as early as possible in July. Has anyone got any areas in mind for when they get there - we are looking at areas around inderpoolily, north lakes and Manly west. Seem to be some good value houses in inderpoolily and really good schools but obv risk is it was hard hit by the floods. H
  7. Hey all We aim to join then too, my hubby has sent off for acs accreditation and has done ielts but is redoing it on the 10th may so we can get full 20 points for English. We are waiting for July to apply as we are hoping my husbands job moves from CSOL list to SOL list, ACS have recommended this happen so fingers crossed. All being well if that happens we will sell our house this summer but don't want to move until next summer as we want to squeeze in a few holidays abroad etc first amongst other things. So I guess if all went to plan we would move to Brisbane in July/Aug 15. Currently preparing our house for sale and starting to clear stuff out Oh and we have three children aged 7, soon to be 5 and just turned 3, I'm a housewife

  9. Well my thinking was it would be good to be a house here so that 1, we don't have to pay the £8000 redemption, 2, it would be our pension and 3, we can forsee that while a long way off we would perhaps in retirement like to live in both countries. We would only be leaving a relatively small deposit in it and would be taking the bulk of our equity to australia to buy a house there. I suppose the next question for me is can just I declare it as an income of sorts as I probably won't work in Oz or if I do its likely to be part time as we have 3 young children, thereby minimising any tax we pay? guessing in reality this will make no difference but worth asking? Thanks
  10. Hi all Just wondering if anyone can advise on the tax implications of leaving a property in the uk? We are planning on selling our house this summer and buying a smaller one that we can live in until we move and then will rent it out. We wouldn't be making any profit as rent would cover the mortgage but just wondered if anyone knew what this would mean tax wise, also do you need to declare it as a buy to let for mortgage purposes if its kinda classed as our main home (albeit we will be abroad)? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  11. Hi folks husband got his ielts results today and we were hoping to get max 20 points for superior english, says you need 8 for each of the components however he got 9 for the other 3 and 7.5 for reading, overall 8.5 mark. I guess this means he will need to resit if we want the extra 10 points? This mark as is should get us 65 points, would you bother resitting for the extra points? Cheers
  12. Where exactly would you be looking at buying in Brisbane Motorhead and what is your budget? It sounds to me as though the housing situation is the more pressing issue here, perhaps others could offer you advice on up and coming areas etc? we are looking at moving to Brisbane next year and while I appreciate that houses there are expensive it does seem that it is still do'able, I've looked at a few different suburbs like North Lakes and around Manly Indooroopilly and there seems to be a mix of housing costs. Where do you work and how far from the beach are you happy to be etc? I love Scotland also, it is beautiful but it is not the most forgiving country to live in weather wise as you get older and job prospects for children in the future are somewhat limited?
  13. thanks ozmaniac, the only reason I don't want to live anywhere else is we no that ultimately we want to end up in brisbane and I don't want to keep my moving my children in and out of schools, we would have a network of friend in brisbane and this is important to us as well as being accessable to all of my family in sydney. We are now looking at slightly changing husbands profession - good thing with IT is he has done a broad spectrum of things, either that or we will wait and see how the land lies in July and then decide which professional code to go for. Any advice on whether there is more or less chance of 189's getting accepted just after the new sol lists are out or towards the end of a sol list?
  14. Hi all We have decided we want to move to queensland and after looking on immi and posting here realised our only route was to go for a 190 visa, however, qld aren't recruiting my husbands profession and we don't want to live in any other state. Does anyone know how much the sol/csol lists change in july - would be more than happy if his job went onto sol list so we could just go for 189, or alternatively if in july states open up most jobs again? We have heard you can take other state sponsorship and just live in reality wherever but don't want to go down that route really as want to get settled and buy house etc asap. We would have gone for last remaining relative visa as all of my family live in oz but my husband still has a sister here in the uk so that scraps that idea. Anyone know how these lists work?? we are wondering whether to just wait until july or to get ball rolling now. Thanks in advance
