  1. So, I’ve just become a permanent resident of Australia and am wondering what the deal is with medical coverage etc. Previously being a temporary resident it was simple with regard to going to hospital as it was on a reciprocal basis as it was free. I am now liable for all my own costs I assume but also eligible for Medicare and want to know whats what with regards to it all. Can anyone give a brief outline of what the deal is with Medicare and what it basically does/covers and what such things you really need private health for. Also If anyone can give me the info regarding the tax levy if you dont have healthcare and how that works etc. I’m completely ignorant in this area so any and all advice is appreciated.
  2. @Ozmaniac, Thanks for that reply, very much appreciated. Engineers Australia are taking forever but hopefully I can get my EOI in asap when I get my skills assessment returned.
  3. I'm currently on a 457. I assume the bridging visa from a 457 to a 189 carries the conditions of the 457 and not the 189. If it is the case that I get made redundant before my Invitation is issued and I then have a 90 day deadline to find relevant work in my field but the invitation then gets issued does anyone have any idea what conditions the bridging would carry? Can I enter onto the bridging during the 90 day period post redundancy?
  4. we have been in a relationship since Sept 2102 with all the proof, she had to return home due to a parent being ill and ultimately passing away. Due to the fact her 417 visa ran out since she has been gone she currently has no visa to return. As I believe it is a case by case basis is this something that would be considered by the DIBP? Would it be more beneficial if she was to return here on a holiday visa or something so that we are both in the country? Thanks for the reply.
  5. I wanted to double check. I don't want to start the lengthy and costly journey down the PR road to be rejected due to this. If it was even a possibility I wanted to rule it out.
  6. My company went into administration & subsequent recievership last week. As I am currently waiting on my skills assesment to come back from Engineers Australia(due in a few weeks) I cannot lodge my application. I am still employed as normal with my company while they are working through the issues etc but can this hinder my PR application? As it's not employer nominated I would think not? If I put in my application and get my EOI and accept and then get made redundant does that make a difference? Thanks in advance
  7. I'm currently waiting on my skills assesment to come back from Engineers Australia(due in a few weeks). My defacto partner to be(all proof etc there) is in the UK. Once I apply for the 189 and get my EOI and accept the invitation, I then go on a bridging correct? If she is associated as a defacto on my application, can she enter Australia once the bridging visa is granted? Is there an extra form or application which needs to be done/can be done?? Thanks in advance
  8. It was only meant to be a short term thing but it has been over a year. She travelled back to the UK as her father was terminally ill and has since passed away. Do you think this would be a big issue. I have travelled back a number of times and we have a lot of "proof" of our ongoing relationship.
  9. Hi all, So i'm in Oz and my girlfriend is in the UK, while prepping for applying for the visa(189) I'm wondering if my de-facto has to do anything? Im assuming no ielts or skills assesment but what about medicals etc etc? Also, once I get my invitation to apply and put in my app, do i have to wait for the visa to be granted for her to come here or is there ways of getting this sorted? Any info appreciated. Thanks
  10. So it's just a matter of applying as usual? No extras or differences from overseas? My housemate is currently applying and had to give a letter from his employer saying there is 12 months work for him ahead. I assumed this would be the case for people abroad not coming here and then having no job to support themselves. Any info people could shed on this would be much appreciated. Thanks for the initial clarification though
  11. Hi all, when applying for a 189/190 PR skilled migration visa, is there a requirement to have employment secured in australia before applying/the visa is granted?? Thanks S
