  1. Thanks for the great answers everyone.....I wasn't overly worried just curious and didn't really want to flunk it and look silly being a native speaker hahaha!
  2. So how hard did people find them? I've been told i need to achieve a level 8 to get the points needed. Many thanks Al
  3. Thanks for the reply JMG79 have been looking into the NVQ and I think I may be able to do it after finishing the diploma level 2 or 3 as it says the NVQ is a follow on course from the diploma. I will ask a tutor to help me confirm that though. Cheers
  4. So Im going to be studying carpentry at college for the next 3 years doing..... level 1 carpentry and joinery diploma (1 year) level 2 Site carpentry diploma (1 year) level 3 carpentry and joinery construction diploma (1 year) My tutor advised I will be a qualified carpenter after year 2, but does anyone know if this would get me a visa as a skilled immigrant to oz If anyone has any advice whatsoever I would be very grateful. 5. Thanks Adam I was actually thinking that there will always be a risk of change and i completely agree on the driving yourself crazy part.....it's taken me ages to decide what profession to learn as I wanted to be sure then I heard that news which threw me a bit is all. Hopefully all goes well Thanks for eveyones great replies by the way. Cheers Al
  6. Hi yes it seems solid plasterer is on there. Im gutted as I thought alot of the trade occupations would stay on for a while.....but I guess there no gaurantees with anything. Heres the link to the AWPA website. http://www.awpa.gov.au/our-work/labour-market-information/skilled-occupation-list/pages/flagged-occupations.aspx Cheers Al
  7. Hi all Ive just read that the AWPA will be monitoring and possibly advising the removal of around 50 occupations from the SOL in 2014 and onwards. I was intending to study one of these (carpentry or painter and decorator) over the next 3 years......but now after reading this news I feel a little deflated about the whole thing. I realize that they would remove occupations from time to time and nothings a sure shot. Does anyone have any positive news for me or experiences if so would be great to hear it before my dreams are crushed before ive even got started lol Thanks in advance :notworthy: Al
  8. Thanks for the replies all the information is great and will most certainly help me on my way Its something im really excited about and cant wait....the next few years is going to drag I reckon but the wait will be worth it
  9. Thanks everyone for your great info we knew it wasnt going to be cheap.....but its gotta be worth it right
  10. Hi all I am going to start learning to become a painter and decorator and from what I can tell its on the SOL list (hopefully it will be when im qualified to:) I was wondering about peoples experiences in this field when applying for a visa. Also what sort of money does a p&d earn these days and what sort of hours are worked. I did google it but all the info ive found seems to be from a good few years ago and was looking for a fresh take on it. I will be looking to get a PR and moving with my wife and 2 young children. Im looking to earn a decent wage but not be rich just enough to enjoy some family time so not working crazy hours. Thanks in advance
  11. Hi all I know there's probably lots of variables but does anyone know or had experience in the cost of a visa for a family of 2 adults and 2 very young children. Also just throwing it out there.....does anyone know what the average cost of moving to oz Thanks in advance
