  1. Our 2 years area nearly up and we will soon be in a position to lodge our 887 Permanent Visa and just wanted to check the requirements that we have to live in South Australia for 2 years and work for 1 year full time and that means all of us a family of 4 need to have lived here for 2 years in order to be eligible for 887 visa? We have both work full time now for over1 year and children have been at school and working part time too, is anyone in similar position to lodge theirs of know how long it takes to get Permanent Visa 887?

  2. We have just sold ours and booked 1 way flights to SA for 13 April, we wanted to have money to fall back on and will be buying another house in SA as soon as we settle, did not want to rent out our home as we already have 3 properties we let and the state some people have left our rentals, letting out our main house was not an option for me!!

  3. I moved here when I was 13 and from what I remember we used Britannia- very good service however they did pack my chemistry homework! For the things we didn't want to take with us we put them all in one wardrobe with a note saying not to pack, the same with kitchen cupboards. In terms of when to get quotes think about how long it will take to ship, how soon you want to be in Aus and how long you are going to budget to find accommodation. Also, I would say make sure you get a decent quote by taking the quote-man round and telling them what you want to pack so that they're not just generalising.

Yes we too are using Brittania as they are local to us and were recommended by a friend!!

  4. Hi,

I am new to the forum and we are moving to Adelaide in June/July. I have already done the following: rabies/titers/RNATT and import permit to Australia and was just wondering if I really need to pay all the extra money for a pet shipping company. We have two medium sized dogs we will be bringing with us.

I am a veterinarian with a pretty good handle on importation requirements but would love anyone's experiences good/bad with doing it themselves. Don't mind paying the money if it is really necessary - they are our fur babies after all!

    Hi Elly,

My girls are due to fly to Melbourne on 15 April and I am using Pet Air as I thought it would be easier as I did not want the worry of organising the dogs and everything else at the same time, we will be driving from Adelaide to Melbourne to collect them!!

Whereabouts are you moving to in Adelaide??

    Bal.

  5. Hi Jen,

We too are using Petair and hope to be moving end of April/may as we have just sold house etc and are moving to Adelaide but the nearest place our dogs can go to is Melbourne where we plan to drive to when they are ready to be collected.

Pet air are fab and go through everything step by step, I started the process last May and could do no more until now as soon as we got visa and house sold!!

Any problems/queries they are on end of email, look on internet.

If I can help further please let me know, we are shipping our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Maltese terrier x Shitzu over as we think they will help us to settle and really could not live without.

  6. I wonder whether anyone can help me we have just been granted our 489 Visa and looking for schools and colleges for our children and want to know if on a 489 Visa my 13 year old son can go to any school he wishes in South Australia and also if my 17 daughter can go to TAFE to do a course she wants to do??

The reason I am asking this questions is we were originally going to Western Australia on a 489 but hubbys job came off skills list so we are now going to SA but have friends we met on forums in WA now and she has told me there are alot of pitfalls on the 489 visa when it comes to schooling her children cannot go to the private schools there and her son cannot do an apprenticeship on 489 and her daughter cannot go to TAFE there either. So I just wanted some clarification for South Austrialia please!!

  7. It wasnt deliberate misleading title...it's just how I'm more surprised than anyone...especially as we came to this in our forties.

its a scary time to start over but I would def recommend it....

Fifi we are in forties too, very comfortable lifestyle here but money cant buy you sun!!

Got our visa last week, waiting for house to sell and then we will be living our dream too hopefully!!! Daughter still having good and bad days still and 17 in 2 weeks time, but its just something we have to try!! xx

  8. Wow that's great! We have two boys 6 + 3! We have been looking for a while at areas to live but there seems so many, we want to stay nearish to the cbd for the beginning but not too close, been looking at rentals today in glenelg, west beach, henley beach and also in the hills and mawson lakes! When are you thinking of leaving the UK? What jobs are you both looking at? Do u have children? We want to leave before Xmas if visa is granted before then, husband is a bricklayer and I'm currently a care worker but have a degree in criminology and criminal justice so hoping to put it to some use out in adelaide!!

We are now just waiting for house to sell then we have no reason to stay we where hoping to be out by February for when the new school year starts but may be more like April/May now and hubby is a Construction Site Manager it was his job we got state sponsorship on and I am a PA and we have 2 children, daughter nearly 17 and son 13 so we are looking at schools and colleges and we like Port Noarlunga area. Be nice to catch up with you guys when we both get out there.

    Bal.

  9. Hi we have state sponsorship with south australia, what about you? I think the wait is going to be the worst but hopefully worth it in the end!!

We have just got our 489 Visa for SA too, what part will you looking to relocate too and when do you think you will be moving and do you have children?

    Bal.

  10. We have just had our visa granted, we started this process 19 months ago at times it has been very stressful but glad when can now plan our move!!

Good luck to everyone stay focused and you will get there!!

  11. Hi Gareth,

Please see below my timeline, not sure how much it will help but patience is not my strong point either and with Xmas and New Year on its way I believe it slows down a little bit more with more staff on leave etc, it will be 6 weeks on Wed since our Agent subbmitted our main visa and we were told that we should get a case office within 6-8 weeks so fingers crossed it shoudl be very soon, but I will post when we get a Case Officer.

Good Luck with everything and please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

    Bal.

  12. Hi Karmen,

I was also wondering the same question our agent has said it quietens down as alot of people take holidays then as its Childrens summer holidays as well as xmas and new year, but surely they will still be issuing visas, but perhaps not as many!!

Sorry I may be of no help to you, we were told that we should get our Case Officer by xmas!! Hate this waiting game don't you??.........

  13. Thanks for the welcomes and replies folks! I totally agree that we should, every box was ticked on our visit to Adelaide with regards to the situation there and I too do not want to get five-ten years down the road and look back, because it really will be too late then. It is a good job that we HAD chosen SA as Kirsty's job has been taken from the list in WA in the past few months when we have been undertaking the decision process. Nothing to say that SA will not follow so we cannot sit on our hands.

Mum (in law) and the Horse coming with us aren't options that are on the table, even though as pointed out, it is not possible to tag on parents to visa applications in any case (which I think is a very good thing) As for the Horse, it is 31 years old, and alas too old to undertake the journey and I'm not sure that we could afford the added expense for it any way.

And as I have pointed out to my parents, who are a little more understanding than Kirsty's mum, but equally not exactly 100% supportive, step 1 is applying for a visa, step 2 is getting it and then step 3 is going... so it is all very early days yet.

Well done guys go for it!!!

  14. We are Steve and Kirsty - both 30somethings, no kids but Kirsty does own a much loved old horse. I work in various media aspects, mainly focused on sport and Kirsty manages a busy veterinary lab (she would thus be the first named applicant). I am a bit of a veteran of travelling to Australia (and New Zealand) having done a back packing/working holiday there in 1999-2000 and then been back again in 2002, 2004, 2008 (which was with Kirsty for the first time) and then NZ on our honeymoon early last year. We had talked about taking the plunge about a move down under a lot, too much talk probably. To jog things along we applied and very nearly got on to the BBC's "Wanted Down Under" earlier this year, but seeing as we didn't, we decided to do our own version and have returned last week from a very short 12 day trip to Adelaide and South Australia (which is our chosen destination)

I'm itching to go, but Kirsty is still having reservations. It is mainly about leaving her Horse and her mum, who is widowed. It is not easy as I'm sure many of you on here will know and appreciate and it is by in large a 50/50 decision, but we are very much stuck in a rut in so many ways in the south of England at present.

I'll keep you up to date with our progress... (and if I need any advice..!)

    Hi Steve and Kirsty,

This is a tough one to comment on, we are in our forties now and it will probably be our last chance to emigrate and we are in the final stages of our visa process, it has not been easy and I too am worried about leaving my mom who is in her eighties on her own, but if we dont do this now our children will not want to move and we will also be too old to move, this is something that I have wanted to do for 15 years or so but hubby always said it was too far away, but when friends or ours moved there and said how good there lifestyle was there we thought we would have a go too and went on a reccie and loved it!!

So think long and hard, we have other friends who have been there and come back because of home sickness and now are going back out next year!! Not for everyone but I think you have try it and get it out of your system or you may regret it later!!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!! We too are heading for Adelaide, Port Noarlunga area hopefully!!

  15. I wanted to wait untill I got some good news before I updated this thread.

Well this morning thats exactly what I got.............. VISA GRANTED!

    I'm absolutely chuffed to bits.

Just so you know I emailed the CO on Sunday night/Monday morn with another copy of the PCC (including the front page this time) and my CRB, I gave a basic explanation of why the PCC has no live trace on it and refered to the CRB which lists the Caution. I offered to apply for a subject access request, complete form 80, get character references and/or provide a statutory declaration. I got an email back just a few minutes later saying that he was happy with the additional documents that i had provided.

Thanks to everyone that gave me advice on this and any other part of the process.

Well done I bet you guy cannot believe it and good luck with eveything!!
