  1. Copied from PM i sent to Lynsey in reply: in the end i managed to get some free advice from an immigration advisor, who said he wouldnt recommend me applying as i wouldnt meet the criteria. in his words everything is set in stone and if 1 aspect isnt matched you have no chance. HOWEVER, in my opinion there is a little bit of give and take, and i say that only from my experience applying for the same visa in NZ and with it being granted sucessfully (i am on that work visa now). If you are in an area which is quite inexperienced and is out of the city, for example in oz the job offer was in margaret river, small town, small population, 5 hours south of perth, your employer can claim how hard it is to find experienced people locally (proof with job adverts and local cvs) and the people which are qualified dont want to move down from the city. i am currently in Gisborne, NZ and it is almost like margaret river but 10 years behind with a few more buildings! one visa requirement was qualifications in the hospo sector. as i said in my post i had none and have no intentions of going back to college to get one. but my employer made the case of how hard it is to find people good at hospo in the area, coupled with my previous experience and my visa came through in 1 week, no hiccups. I should also add that a couple of months before 'bar/cafe/restaraunt manager' was taken off the skill shortage list - which should have made my chances even slimmer. i think one thing to remember is everyone who decides your visa is human. and if there is a few more questions to be asked your case officer will be in touch to discuss or request more info before making a descision. I know that NZ and AUS are completely separate immigration controls but this is how my story faired in the end, and currently what im up to. Im very interested to hear the outcome of your particular situation from what you told me Lyns. Please keep us updated. This is a big industry, but ive struggled to find personal experiences and info on the web from people applying for a visa in this type of front of house role. All the best!
  2. Yes thats right alex i worked 3 months on the end of my first year through to 5 months on the start of my second.
  3. Thanks for the heads up blossom, although im certain the original plan was go on salary anyway As i say what im most worried about is whether they will find me 'qualified' enough to grant me the visa. Unfortunately its an industry of its own where you learn on the job and not in the classroom. I think its harder to prove when in the UK you don't NEED any qualifications, you just work your way up the ladder and have no certificates to prove it..
  4. Funnily enough id only consider a dominoes after a couple of beers!
  5. Ah turns out i had worked it out wrong. I just used paycalculator, com instead and it works out just under $26p/h to hit the magic $53900 gross income. Fortunately this will not be a problem!
  6. By my calculations on previous wage @ $27p/h it would come in at $51840. Slightly under but thats not including bonuses if they were to be introduced. The other thing is that this is already above the standard wage for somebody in this job role (it can range anywhere between 39k - 63k from what ive read) I think the other manager right now is on $27p/h so to raise it even more would be quite unjust. would it not be acceptable to be placed on the same wage as her or does it definately have to hit the $53 900 minimum regardless?
  7. Hello, i have recently been offered a managerial position at a restaurant & cafe down in Margaret River, WA with a sponsorship on visa 457. It is for an ex-employer whom i worked for for 8 months on my previous WHV between 2011-2012. I have accepted the offer, but havent yet began my application because im worried about whether it will be a successfully granted. After looking through a lot of forums and websites im still struggling to find a few answers on what will affect my chances of success: 1. I dont have any qualifications in hospitality, however since i left school in 2006 i have worked in the industry. A total of 7 years experience. 5 years in High quality award winning restaurants/bars, 2.5 years in managerial roles (i am 23 now). 2. One of my previous managerial roles (for just under 2 years) was 'BAR' manager, but there was constantly additional restaurant managerial tasks when only one manager was on duty. The other 7 months i was Cafe Manager. 3. Because of the location of margaret river and the fact its classed as a low population growth area im wondering if it will work in my favour when applying? 4. The boss has recently just been recognised as an approved sponsor business - will this have any affect on my chances? 5. If i was to apply i have to put all of my previous work experience on my application or just jobs with relevance (i.e. strawberry picking for visa extension) over the past 5 years? Any help would be appreciated. I understand that Unit Group 1411 Restaurant & Cafe manager must be one of the most used applications because some people can perceive it to be the easiest way to get on a 457 after a WHV (at least the people ive spoken to who have already done it) however my intentions are legit and this is and has been my industry and profession since i have been old enough to work. I look forward to hearing your replies and advice, thanks in advance!
