  1. Similar-ish in terms of premium but main difference is in the UK I have found is if you are covered for the particular health issue, you don't pay anything (up to limit). In Aus, I haven't quite figured out how it works but I pay a "gap" if I need to see a consultant each time. But (depending on the cover you get), you can claim on dental and optician (including contact lenses and glasses) costs in Aus.

  2. Hi Pam, we transferred from BUPA UK to BUPA Australia and kept all our pre existing conditions. We will be doing the opposite in a few weeks time and BUPA has confirmed that all our pre existing conditions will remain. The only thing is ensure that there is no lapse of cover in between when you are transferring. You may end up paying a slight overlap between the two policies depending on how organised you are but small price to pay to maintain any pre existing I think. Oh, BUPA also said we have to transfer within 30 days of landing. Not sure if this applies to all other private health insurers.

  3. Hi Stan, totally sympathise with your situation. My question would be how certain are you that the employer/your boss will honour their current stated intention to sponsor you at the end of 2 years and not find some reason not to when the time comes. Is there any way of finding out if they have a record of doing so in the past? The last thing you would want is to put up with the situation for 2 years to be let down at the end of the road.

  4. Hmmm... That's good to know, thanks. Our stuff is being shipped back at the start of December but we won't be leaving till January. So, was wondering whether to not ship our fridge freezer or to hire one :(

  5. Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies in Melbourne who hires out white goods for a few weeks? We are looking to hire a small fridge for a few weeks. There seem to be quite a few companies when I do a google search but was wondering if anyone had any personal experience. :) Thanks in advance.

  6. Hi LRC, I'm glad you had a good weighing up session. I'm sure the next place you find will be even more perfect than this one. Perhaps there is another location which has the all the tick boxes but slightly closer? Guess having more time to get a bigger deposit together is a good thing too :)

  7. If finances permit (including amounts for the reno), then the distances aren't that bad if your son's friends come from all over anyway - is there a dedicated school bus or will it be a public bus? If the former, then he will have fun on it :)

50 minutes to work with city traffic is a small price to pay I guess - a pain but I find that it's a great time (I will be going back to a 30/40 minutes drive) to gather my thoughts and have some 'me' time. How about hubby's work? Is that going to be very far as well?

Good luck with your thinking x

  8. Oh, LRC, that is a dilemma. What lovely views this place has. The distance is definitely a downside. I think the hardest is whether your son will mind not living closer to his friends. Especially as he gets older but not yet old enough to drive (don't know how old he is). Is the area one that you have been looking at already? x

  9. I didn't think it was a grey area as it is spelt out very clearly on the IMMI/DIAC website that

"As a (457) sponsor you must:

    - pay travel costs to enable sponsored people to leave Australia"

It then goes on to say:

"You must pay reasonable and necessary travel costs to enable the sponsored person and their sponsored family members to leave Australia. They must ask you in writing for you to pay the costs. We can also make a written request on their behalf.

The costs will be considered reasonable and necessary if they include all of the following:

    - travel from the sponsored persons usual place of residence in Australia to their place of departure from Australia

    - travel from Australia to the country (for which the sponsored visa holder holds a passport) and intends to travel to

    - economy class air travel or, where that is not available, a reasonable equivalent."

  10. Hi, our friends were supposed to be visiting us this Christmas but unfortunately, his wife is not well and will have to have a surgery so they won't be able to travel to Australia after all.

As a result, we have some spare Ashes tickets at the MCG to sell (tickets are in the Family Zone area)

    - Boxing Day Day 1 test at the MCG (26/12): 2 adults & 4 child tickets in Bay M31

    - Ashes Day 3 at the MCG (28/12): 1 adult & 2 child tickets in Bay M36

Additionally, we also have some ODI and T20 cricket tickets at the MCG (England fan zone) for January for sale. We bought these before we confirmed our flight dates to the UK and so won't be able to use them now:

    - ODI at MCG (12/1/14) 1 adult 2 children

    - T20 at MCG (31/1/14) 1 adult 2 children

If anyone is interested, PM me? Thanks x

  12. Hi Donna, I didn't phone, I went online to Apple UK. Select Iphone, Support, service requests and choose unlock phone. You send them a message with your problem and I think they ask for the serial number of the phone as well.

Darn, wished I knew. I did not try online for apple. I went into the stores, both in UK and Australia and they couldn't help. They did not suggested it as well. Oh well, live and learn. Good to know for next time :)
