  1. Thanks Iamngoc!! Am I reading that right? They're not currently taking anyone for the 489 with under 80 points?
  2. No probs. I wasn't really clear in the initial query. I may have to I think. At the moment I'm just really conscious of a clock ticking down to zero.
  3. Yes. I've added the maximum for the english exam.
  4. Hi JetBlast. Thanks for the reply! Yes, unfortunately I do need the sponsorship to get the 65.
  5. Hi there. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm just looking for a little advice. My aim is to emigrate to Australia as I have three brothers and a sister living in Brisbane, all settled and Australian citizens. I visited them in October and came away thinking 'yes this is for me'. Before that I hadn't really thought about it. Unfortunately timing wasn't great as I was struggling to make the points due to experience in my job being only two years. I've just hit three years this month, but now (even more unfortunately) I lose points due to turning 40 years old today. My initial plan was to wait two years until I have five years work experience and then go for the 189/489 visa options but I have checked the 489 again today and realised that, even with the drop in points from my age, I still have 65 points total. I am single and a registered nurse. I don't care where in Australia I go as I am looking at the long game of getting to Brisbane at some point. Being in Australia alone will bring me a lot closer to my family than I am at the moment. My query is, should I attempt to apply for the 489 now with 65 points, or wait two more years and apply with 70? I know they say 65 and above but it seems like those with 65 wait a very long time, if not even time out of the application process. Any advice anyone can give me would be welcome. Thank you Claire x
  6. Thanks everyone! Lots of things to consider really. Having enough points right now is difficult because in march I'm going to lose some with the age bracket and end up with only 60 for the 190 and 65 for the 489. Jenki75 sadly yes this does include the 20 for superior English. As I stand I'm single, 39, with 2 years experience as a nurse with a bachelor degree. However, in two years I will get more for the work experience and will end up with 65 again, possibly 70 if I can complete a master's in time. I guess life isn't over after 40 lol.
  7. Hi there everyone. I am right at the very beginning of the process and am hoping for some advice. I just got back from Brisbane yesterday after going to visit my family (3 brothers, 1 sister -- many many nieces and nephews and even a great niece) who have lived out there for twenty years. I had thought I was happy over in England but my trip has shown me just what I'm missing, both in lifestyle and in the fact that I have so many relatives there who I am missing out on time with. I want to start the application process. I am a registered nurse with two years experience currently... it will be three years in april. Things are a little dicey with my skills points as currently I have 65 for a 190 visa and 70 for a 489 family sponsored. However as I turn 40 in March this is going to drop and even with the increase from the work experience from April I will still drop five points to become 60 for a 190 and 65 for a 489 family sponsored. There's a possible issue with the 489 too as it states that people in Brisbane or the Gold Coast cannot currently sponsor. My sister lives in Queensland but it's classed as Logan which is between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I am not sure if this restriction would apply to her or if she would be free to sponsor me. I'm wondering if it's worth applying for a 190 or if I should go for a 489? Is it possible to get an invite for an EOI if I start now? I have booked an english test for december and can then have my ANMAC started. I hope these questions are alright. Thank you and I appreciate any help or insight you can give me. Claire
  8. I'm like that in the UK Redrover. God help me if/when I ever get to Aus lol.
  9. Hi McFisher. Thanks for the good luck! My dead end job was a part time cleaner job. There was no way to progress upwards and I could easily have been doing the exact same thing there ten years later. I had the qualifications necessary to get into Uni as I'd got a biology degree before and had some experience with working on wards. It's a really tricky thing getting that experience beforehand isn't it! I know what you mean about the money drop. Good luck in it!!
  10. Hi Adonna, thanks for the welcome and the luck
  11. Hi there, I'm new to this forum and I'm a student nurse. Still just a baby really, I started in March 13 and I'm just going out to my second hospital placement on monday (terrified lol). I was pretty lucky really -- make that extremely lucky -- this time last year I was in a dead end job and really feeling low. I couldn't see any way out of the situation but a friend of mine at work was training to be a nurse and she encouraged me, even wrote my reference for me. I applied to five universities, got knocked back straight away from one as they said the course was full already, got two interviews and earned my place at one of them in December. Ironically it's the same university that my friend is studying at too. There are days where I love it and days where I'm terrified I'm going to do something wrong. I know the confidence will come in time. Every time I panic I think back over this year and realise just how dang privileged and lucky I've been.
  12. Thanks Tcrejbf! Loving it on this site so far.
  13. Hi there everyone. I came across this wonderful site the other day while I was browsing the internet looking for an answer to a question I had regarding my elderly mother going to Aus. I'm right at the very start of the journey, in fact I'd say I was even before the start... I'm one of those poor marathon runners who are right at the back and just reach the starting line after they've been running for half an hour lol. I've wanted to emigrate to Australia for many years but as I had no skills it seemed to be an impossible dream. Luckily I was accepted on a nursing course (my other dream) a while back and so, with a bit of luck, I will be a qualified RN in a couple of years. I come from a large family, six of us in total, and my sister and three of my brothers are all in Brisbane. I just wanted to say hello. This really is a great site and I've learnt a lot about the process of applying. All the best to everyone else out there thinking of doing it/in the process
