  1. Hi everyone,

Need advice about job prospects for a chemistry teacher in Melbourne. I have been granted 189 visa, have completed NQT year in UK and worked as a supply/relief due to lack of permanent roles, but don't enjoy supply work. What are the prospects for getting full time or part time work in Melbourne / outer suburbs?

    thanks

  2. Hi

I would like to transition into a career in HR. I have already had visa 189 granted and am going to be moving to Melbourne. I was wondering if anyone had advice on the best way to go about it. I understand that I will need to start as a HR Assistant and then work myself up. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    thanks

  3. Hi

Just wondering if anyone can help with this question: if someone who is a teacher has a 189 granted and can't secure full employment, can they do some other job in the meantime e.g. an admin job or some job as a gap filler - is that permitted on a 189 visa? Sorry if. This seems like a stupid question, just would like to know in case of worst case...

    thanks

  5. Hi my girlfriend came out at as science teacher end of last uk school year. Landed a full time permanent job in a private school starting jan 2014. She is really enjoying it so far. She applied for aprox 100 jobs interviewed for about seven. There are not many straight science jobs most are maths science. I think this went against her when applying. Shes now teaching maths and science to year 7 to 10. From what we have learnt many of the 100 jobs probably had someone in post already so they would be unlikely to hire an outsider. Good luck u will enjoy it..not so much red tape better kids no ofstead more freedom in what u teach. These are things girlfriend likes.

We had less pressure on us than you would I guess. I had already lined up a job from the UK so we already knew we had some money coming in. This enabled my girlfriend to do volenteer work in Schools from August until she got the job in November, working in two different schools one state one private. Just to get an idea of what australian teaching was about, she was just a free teaching assistant basically but I think it looked good at interview that she has been doing these things

Thanks Wolvesaussie for sharing your (& your girlfriend's) experience. Yes, I guess I am feeling the pressure at moment. It's always the same with advertised jobs, in UK too, often they are just going through the motions, when they already have someone lined up. It's frustrating though. Just got to keep looking and hoping, although I suspect I may need a back-up plan, just to earn some money until I secure something full-time/regular. I think you're right though, it will be worth it.
