  1. Thanks guys I appreciate all the different perspectives on this. I think we have considered everything, and we are definitely going to do it. I will also be meeting with an OB and looking at various hospitals during my visit in Jan, which is good. Regardless of it being private or not. My other half has also mentioned about paying for my family tickets to come stay with us during the birth and after for a month, so that will be nice. I've also looked at baby yoga ect to meet people. Just to to clarify some confusion, I'm not pregnant yet, just researching. And I know it takes more than the first try as it took us 3 months last time , unfortunately it didn't work out. But I have plenty of time on my side to try. And just to clarify for others, the 12 months waiting for private insurance to be valid is 3 months wait, 9 months pregnant. I called up to check! Thanks everyone
  2. Thanks for the reply LittleSarah. And I'm sorry about your loss. I recently went through the same thing, and had the operation, and the care I received was horrible! So it's good to know the treatment in Australia is better. Im in going to buy extra room on the plane, and I've already looked into insurance, I'm covered through my job.
  3. Thanks again Rosie - I'm so glad you have said that, as I'm a bit scared to be honest. I recently lost a baby 4 months gone, and the NHS care I received was terrible, which has made me scared of any public hospital care. Which is why I mentioned private, I think it will help when I speak to a GP in Melbourne and when I visit the hospitals in January!
  4. thanks Rosie - yeah I've done a lot of research, I know I have to wait 12 months. I'm visiting Australia in Jan, so I'm hoping to register for Medicare then, and also my friend I'm Australia recommended a great OB, so I also have a meeting with her, and I'm going to have a look around the hospitals too. I'm going to have a private OB in the UK so my private UK OB will speak to my OB in Australia and update her. I will also have Skype appointments with her until I'm 6 months. I already have a house in Australia which me and hubby bought a year ago, so that should help, as we will move into our home. We also have all our furniture ect to ship so we don't have the hassle of buying any. My my maternity pay is really good, I get 6 months full pay, and 50% after that for 22 weeks. In relation to my hubby getting a job, his sector is really in need of people, my friend is also a recruitment agent in Australia, and if he didn't it's ok as we have good savings and a house we rent out in the uk which is an income too. So we can afford him to have the year off. Th anks so much for your advice!! It's much appreciate!
  5. Hi thanks for the reply, I've already checked and I don't have to return to work! Lucky me!
  6. Hi Guys, i have so many questions and I'm very confused. I have been granted my visa 6 months ago, and myself and my husband are looking to emigrate to Melbourne next year. We would like to try for a baby and get pregnant before I move to Melbourne, as I want to get maternity pay from my job in the uk whilst living in Australia. We ideally would like to move to Australia when I'm 6 months pregnant. My questions are the following: 1) I want to be covered by private medical for when I give birth, and I've been looking online and it states I have to have the insurance 12 months before I give birth, is this correct? Does this also include scans ect? 2) I'm concerned about flying to Australia at 6 months pregnant, has anyone else done this? And what was your experience giving birth in Australia? 3) what were your experiences giving birth in Melbourne if you have given birth in Melbourne? 4) did anyone apply for Medicare before their permanent move to Melbourne? And what documentation did you need? 5) how did you find it settling in to a new country when pregnant and without family if you didn't have any in Australia? Sorry for so many questions! Worried and nervous! Thank you in advance!
  7. Thanks for all the advice guys, and if anyone knows about if quarantine will change from 4 weeks to 10 days let me know? Thanks again
  8. thanks Skani, we are having a pool put in, but frenchies hate water and they can't swim due to their build. We will get him a cool coat that you can buy though!
  9. Yeah that's so long for him, you did the right thing, but I can't imagine how you must have felt. But at least you found him a nice new loving home. My parents have offered to take George in if anything changes with the flying of snub nosed breeds, but I'd still be heart broken to leave him and my family behind.
  10. He is booked on a flight with emirates. You can only fly them during October to March. He's been looked after by a company called PBS, they have excellent reviews and you can read everyone's reviews on Facebook which gave me comfort as I was worried about the long flight. Just for the flight it cost us £1700 and then we pay for quarantine at the other side which we have been told is around 400. We have a calendar with everything on it of what needs to be done when so it's all good on that front. Has anything been announced further about changing the quarantine time from 4 weeks to 10 days?
  11. Oh god that's awful! You poor things! Yeah we are flying to Melbourne, they have restricts on what times of the year we can fly, but apart from that they seem ok.
  12. thanks Sniffer, some good advice. Yeah we are thinking of getting him a little friend when we settle in and have decorated the house so he can run around, he will have lots of space to play so he should be ok and he has so many toys, and he loves to eat our shoes so I'm sure he will love being home to eat them! We just got a bit worried as he was way too hot yesterday in the shade and it was only 25 degrees and he wasn't running around. I've been told you can get these cool coats for them, so I'm going to look into that too.
  13. Hi guys, I'm worried about taking my gorgeous French Bulldog George to Melbourne due to the heat, these types of breeds don't seem to handle heat too well. And George can't even cope with the English summer. We have already booked him on his flight, but I don't want to be cruel to him as he doesnt seem to handle the heat well? Has anyone taken a snug nose breed to Melbourne, and are they coping well? Do you have any tips on keeping them cool? Or any thing you can buy to keep them cool? We bought a house in Melbourne that has aircon and tiled flooring to keep him cool? But I don't want him confined to the house all day? Thanks in advance.
