  1. I wonder if anyone can help - When you return to your original address in the UK, does the address have the landline phone number or can it change?

I have assumed that our tenant inherited the land line number from us - and then we would get it back... Is this correct?

I think they can have asked BT for a new number. When we rented in the uk before coming to Australia we asked BT for a new number.Only they can tell you if they sill have your old number.Ask them or you agent.

  2.

Hi, an answer to my next question would be greatly appreciated. A company over in Brisbane have a labour agreement and have three sponsorships to offer out this year. My question is, if I were to go out on my own, could my wife and kids follow at any time or is there a period of time they need to travel out by before they can no longer be included on my visa? Thanks in advance, Steve :)

is this a Temp Visa one or a PR visa one .There are both. We came out in 2007 on a temp one which when we arrived we applied for the Pr one.All of this was done under a labour agreement. We all came over together and were all on the visa from the start .
  3. I'm covered in deet and citronella, eat tons of garlic, not short on vitamin B. So sick of being chomped by mossies. Look like I've got chicken pox and sick of stinking of pesticide. Any hints and tips??

Can't help with stopping the biting, but I have my Mum send me Anthisan from the UK, only thing that helps me cope with the after effects.

  4. How about delivering leaflets .

Not much money but would get you out and about, and give you some money over your centerlink to try and save.

Do WA have cash for cans?

Here in SA you always see people collecting the used cans and getting extra money for these.

I save all our cans and bottles, get over $100 on a regular basis which I gave to my kids. This paid for their uni books.

We were at one point paying upfront uni fees for 2 sons .(before we became citizens)

Not a great thing to have to do but would give you money for uni fees soon builds up.

I know these are not a job but could help you get the money for uni fees.

  5. Hi everyone,

been offered sponsorship by an employer here in QLD near Brisbane as an aircraft engineer. But the pay he's offering seems a bit low? $58885pa - is this an average pay for Qld?

i hold an UK licence for my profession but not licenced here yet. After I get my Aussie licence my pay gets review and bumped up to about $65000 which is still only £1000 more than what I was getting in the UK. My only real concern is my family and If I'll be able to provide for them.

What is considered the average pay for Qld on the Gold Coast? Would we realistically be able to survive on $58885/65000?

are there any other aircraft engineers out there who would be able give some input? I have almost 7 years in my field with a B1.2 licence.

    Thanks

    lee

What visa are you coming on?

If a temp 457 you would not be entitled to any family assistance.

You might have to Pay school fees ( a large expense )

If on a Pr visa these things would not apply

Is this wage inclusive of Super a question to ask your employer.

How many children do you have that will impact on the wage being survivable.

  6. Yes they can, though if you're using it daily, you should be on preventers not Ventolin. Especially if it's children taking it, because every time you hear a wheeze, it's damaging the airways permanently. So these days, the approach is to stop the wheeze before it happens - which makes it more likely they'll grow out of it permanently.

This is the best way to manage asthma.

My family very rarely need to use their Ventolin .

They are all on different preventers.Ranging in cost from $25 to $39 and doses from 2 puffs twice a day to 1 puff twice a day

  7. My husband has been offered a job on a 457 visa in Adelaide which we are thrilled about, but he is 50, so PR will never be an option, I am 47 and work in the hospitality trade, but not a cook or chef, I have been told I would have a better chance trying to prove myself to an employer that I can do the job once in the country, but I am worried that this might not happen, and we would have to return to the UK after 4 years, we are also taking 3 kids with us, I would hate them to get settled and then have to up route them, having lots of sleepless nights! don't know what to do!

We came out to Adelaide on a 457 years ago.

But my husbands employer applied for a PR as soon as we got here .

This was all in his contract of employment.

We came with 2 sons 17 and 14.But our Pr Visa was an unusual one a labour agreement one.

We would not have come out without the prospect of quick application for Pr.

In your case I think that it would be best, to ask for a Pr visa from the beginning and not to come out on a 457.

If this is not possible I would not be come.

  8. Hi Everyone

We have just been offered a sponsored Visa 457 from my Husbands company who are opening a new office in Perth.

After 2 years they are willing to sponsor us for a full visa.

    Here are my questions:

We have 2 children one aged 13 and one aged 17... I think there will be school/college fees? any idea how much?

Medicare will cost? a month for us?

Would the employer have to pay our moving fees/flights ect or is that down to individual employers?

We have a meeting with my Hubby's boss next Thursday and I want to have a list of questions for him!!!

Any other advise on this type of visa or questions I need to be asking?

    Thanks in advance xxx

We came over on a 457 with a 17 year old and a 14 year old, Please be very careful as your 17 year old must be in full time education and fully dependent on you when you apply for PR.

And on a temp visa you will have to pay international Uni fees. Also although on Pr you are paying domestic fees you have to pay these each semester upfront and there are no loans until you are a citizen.

We negotiated that the company would apply for Pr as soon as we arrived and this was in his contract.

My husbands company applied for Pr for us as soon as we arrived so we had no problems.

As I said please be careful.

  9. For people on this visa with children are school fees still commencing in 2015? How will it work?

also on a 457 how soon can you get PR or apply for it?

When on a 457 you can apply for Pr at any time as long as you qualify. In our case we applied as soon as we arrived in Australia.

Being on a 457 is not an automatic way to get Pr unless you also qualify.

  10. So would you know, if my son takes 2 different types of tablets a day, normally here they would be put on the same prescription and I collect them monthly, how much approx. that would be? Would they charge just for 2 items even though its enough for a months supply? Not paying for his meds here I'm not entirely sure how we would be billed here tbh.

    http://www.pbs.gov.au/pbs/home

This website will show you the max you would pay for all items on the PBS.Some things are only available on private scripts and they are not on this.

We get our scripts from Chemist Warehouse, all chemists have there own prices, they can charge up to the max price on the PBS.

Use the search function and see if the meds are on the PBS for his condition to give you a guide to prices.

There is no single price per item or script like the UK.

    ..

  11. I just moved to Australia with my two parents. They promised they would help me through the migration and help me stay sane. I've looked forward to the move to Australia, and now that I'm here, my main priority is to get a computer. You are probably asking yourself, "Challis, how the heck are you typing this post without a computer?", well, I am on my old laptop. I'm not looking for a computer like THIS. I'm now looking for a gaming computer. Considering this is my first post, I don't expect to get an immediate response, but the sooner; the better, I suppose. I'll post the stats I'm looking for down below, just in case you're a nerd who knows how to help me out.

    P.S ~ I'm on a budget of about $700.

P.P.S ~ The two games I wish to mainly play are, "Bioshock Infinite" and "Minecraft."

    P.P.P.S ~ I'm looking for a brand-new computer, not used.

    Thanks...

    OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit

    Processor: Quad Core Processor

    Memory: 4GB

Hard Disk Space: 30 GB free

Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible, AMD Radeon HD 6950 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560

    Video Card Memory: 1024 MB

    Sound: DirectX Compatible

These are the "Bioshock Infinite" game MAX requirements, so a little less is fine...

My son uses MSY for some of his computer needs.

Do you have one near you?

You can look up their prices on line.

He buys the parts and assembles them himself .

MSY will put together your package for a price.

They might be worth looking at.

  12. My son is 18 and just completed his yr 12.he was born in the uK and moved here when he was 4.Will he be charged as an International student and will his ATAr score enable him to go to University in the UK? Thanks for your advice fellow friends

Short answer he will be classed as an international student.

  13. It's all good....she's in as a dependent. I've been told that she can do as she wishes over the next four years or until we get PR.....study, work or both.

I think you need to make sure you have the right information about an older dependent child and going from 457 to pr.When we did this our sons both had to be in full time education and fully dependent on us so no working as well.

Right up until after Pr was granted.

    Please be very careful

  14. Thank you LKC for your reply,

we won't have any nursery fees thank goodness, although sometimes wish our eldest who has now finished school was back in nursery because he was so much nicer when he wasn't in miserable teenager phase! Your costings for utilities etc have been a great help, we are trying to work out a realistic a budget has possible so we don't have any big surprises when we get here.

I should imagine the the first couple of years will be hard enough without struggling money wise, I've become obsessed with trying to cover every eventuality!

If you are coming over on a 457 with a teen no longer in full time education, and hoping to get Pr you might have a problem proving that they are dependent on you

  15. Hi yes, I know how competitive it is, and apparently most people have to audition at least twice before getting accepted. She's always been a performer - just about since she was six and got to perform at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane - before we dragged her to the end of the world! She finished school last year and took a year off to decide what she wanted to do with her life - she's still acting and singing locally during that time. She has decided that this is what she really wants to do, and will put her all into trying to make it happen, despite the odds against it. She's been performing in the Australian Girls' Choir for several years, as well as doing plays, shows, and musicals through school and local groups, and participating in Musical Theatre Camps since 2005. It's one of those things that we've tried to steer her away from career-wise, but at the end of the day, if she is determined and prepared for some extremely hard work and a lot of rejection, you have to let them follow their dreams sometimes. My job is to try and keep her feet on the ground while she does it! These days after all, any degree course in any discipline has little or no guarantee of work at the end of it!

The course is full time, 40 hours a week every plus extra hours and weekends at performance time, so sounds like bloody hard work for little return to me! A lot more hours than a normal degree course  Wouldn't catch me doing it, I can tell you! I don't work that many hours, even getting paid for it!

Well I presume that she has been working during this year off? if not why?

I would point out to her that she needs to work and save up for this to become a reality.

If she wants it enough she will make the effort as she cannot expect you to support her in Sydney.

1/Get her to make a budget of what she expects her costs to be.

2/Get her to realise that she needs to be self supporting

3/Tell her that this is her dream and it is up to her to make it happen not you.

4/Next time she lets rip at you point all this out and leave her to it.
