  1. You have a years WHV you can enter and leave Australia as many times as you like in that year. So if you decide to go to Australia for 1 month and then go off to Thailand for 11 months you won't be able to use that WHV.

However don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure if you go to Australia and do the farm work for 88 days and then go to thailand for lets say 9 months you should qualify for a 2nd year visa even if you have been out the country for 10 months. Can someone confirm whether i am right or wrong?

  2. I went to Phuket for 10 days in March 2014 i flew with Singapore Airline they were brilliant i would defiantly fly with them again you pay a little extra compared to other airlines but the service was great. I flew from London Heathrow to Singapore and then onto Phuket. If your flying from the UK i believe the only airline that fly's direct to Phuket is Thomson.

The Phi Phi islands were great well worth a trip.

  3. Hi all,

I'm just after a bit of advice to how much i should be looking to save for a WHV? I'm looking to travel Australia Feb, March 2017 ( I plan to start looking for jobs after 2 weeks of arriving in Australia )

Also please advise where the best place to book

    Flights- Website or Agency?

Hostels/Hotels -The first few days in Australia would it be best to book into a Hotel or Hostel?

Travel Insurance- Website or Agency like STA travel?

    Visa-Website or Agency

Is there anything else i need to buy before departing

  4. Hi all,

Myself and my girlfriend have just booked time off work for a 3 week holiday in October. Over the next couple of days we are going to book flights to Australia flying from London to Cairns on the 18th October arriving on the 20th October and then flying back to London from Sydney airport on the 10th November. This will give us around 3 weeks travelling time.

Our plan is to spend around 3-4 nights in Cairns/Port Douglas and then travel down the coast using the hop on hop off greyhound coach pass to Sydney stopping off at various hotspots along the way for 1-3 night stays. There are a few tours that we would like go on which are to the Great Barrier Reef, Sail around the Whitsunday Island and also visit the Blue Mountains.

Will 3 weeks be enough to travel from Cairns to Sydney by coach or would it be worth leaving out a section of the coach trip and flying instead? If yes would it be best to travel by coach from Cairns to Brisbane and then fly from Brisbane to Sydney or fly Cairns to Brisbane and then take the coach down to Sydney?

  5. Septober is the best time to see the Whitsundays and Uluru. Octember is getting too hot for the desert as temps will be up around 36/38C.

A drive from Brissie to the Whitsundays is as far as Land's End to John O' Groats.

    Cheers, Bobj.

Wow that is quite far i think we will fly instead lol it'll probably work out cheaper flying as well.

  6. Is this just a holiday or a reccie for potentially living in Australia?

Either way it may make sense to fly into Perth and out of Sydney (or vice versa)

You could maybe take the train from Perth to Sydney if you want to see some of the interior, it takes 4 days but would definitely be part of the holiday.

    http://www.greatsouthernrail.com.au/trains/the_indian_pacific/all_inclusive_journeys/

Or you could fly from Perth to Ayers Rock airport spend a day or two there and fly on to Sydney (or to Perth if you start in Sydney)

I am not sure you can comfortably fit Brisbane into the plan too - remember you're going to be wiped out with jetlag for the first few days so I would spend at least a week in the first destination otherwise you are not going to enjoy it.

If it is for a reccie then i would seriously reconsider your plans, if it's just a holiday then enjoy :)

Thanks for your response. Ideally both a reccie and holiday. We are hoping to speak to a few recruitment agencies whilst out there to find out whether or not we have a good chance gaining employment if we decided to emigrate.

The train journey sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the info :)

  7. About to book some time off work to come over to Australia next year. I'm looking at booking 3 weeks off possibly during October/November. What time of year would you recommend coming over?

Me and my girlfriend are looking at flying into Sydney and then returning back to London from Sydney too. We are hoping to stay in Sydney for around 3-4 days before either driving or flying up to Brisbane/Whitesunday island for a few days and then make our way up to Ayers rock. I'd also like to fly over to Perth but don't think we will have enough time.

  8. It does not matter when you come, though if you arrived in Sydney over Xmas/New Year you might find it hard to get accomodation with the influx of people for the NYE celebrations. From Xmas Eve to Australia Day (26th January), it is school and summer holidays which may affect your job hunting. Apart from those considerations, come when you like.

Thanks MaryRose i am now looking at coming over between July & August 2016 that'll give me enough time to save a good amount of money. I now need to decide what part of Australia I'm going to fly into so i'll have a good chance of finding some work.

  9. Yeah he decided in the end after 3 years together he didn't want to go, he has a big family and didn't want to leave. It was always my dream to go not his!! I'm meeting some friends when I arrive but flying alone- I'm flying with Emirates! Won't go with anyone else for long haul especially with the distance but I paid around £650 for a one way, I could have paid less but there was more stops involved and the flight duration was mega so it worked out well really! Yeah they are expensive but cheaper in the long run if you are doing months on the road because the price of hostels add up. I've always wanted to get a campervan as well haha!!

Emirates surpose to be good! Did you look at flying with Singapore airlines? They are good!

  10. I'm going in 3 weeks! I've got 8 days in Sydney and in that time I need to find a job. When I was originally going with my boyfriend we booked in Siesta Inn but it's so expensive for a double room- even more so around the time you want to go as its peak. If possible try and come in Swptember when it's in between!! I'm taking between $4500 but I plan to put most of that in my Oz bank account and use that for Bali at Christmas and New year and for the East Coast/Buy a camper after new year. It depends what you want to do, how much you want to spend on tours, whether you want to stay in hostels or hotels etc etc. There is no right or wrong answer and no one can tell you the correct amount as only you know how much you spend!!

So are you now going alone as you mentioned you were originally going with your boyfriend? What airline are you flying with?

I was thinking more of July-Auguest depending on how much I've saved and if my girlfriend has saved enough aswell. Buying a camper sounds a good idea although I'm guessing they can be quite expensive?

  11. Me and my partner are hoping to travel Australia from London next year on a working holiday visa and after some advice on the following.

What time of year would be best to come to Australia? ( We plan to fly into Sydney first)

How much money should we look to bring to Australia? ( We are hoping to find work within 4 weeks and stay in Australia for a year)

What hostels can someone recommend that have rooms for couples?

  12. Not hiding, but my experience so far doesn't really relate to yours. I originally came to Australia sponsored on a 457, and then went through the transition stream for a 186.

Best of luck with everything. If I can chip-in some help I'll be glad to help when I have something to offer. [emoji3]

Suzukiscottie what job did you get sponsorship for?

  13. Hi all,

Next year i am thinking of going out to Australia it'll probably be around my 29th Birthday in June. If i went out there on a WHV and did the 88 day regional work would i be entitled to a 2nd year visa considering my age after the 1st year will then be 30?

  14. Good luck with whatever you do! I was looking to emigrate to Australia a year ago on the electrical trades equipment worker route but seeing as it cost around £6k to get a permanent visa i left it. I'm now thinking of going out there on a working holiday visa next year to find out what its really like before deciding to spend that money. Go Matilda is who i spoke to at the time they were honest and helpful.

I use to work for sky myself i left last October after 6 years covering the Suffolk/Essex area. What area do you currently cover?
