  1. Hi BEGal,

I work at the company the jobs are on offer, Austal Ships. I'm a Supervisor there and have been asked to recruit through the same avenue's I tried when coming over last July or from my previous place of work. There is an incentive for me if I manage to recruit people that are good workers and stick around for a while so would prefer it if you sent the resume to me but your more than welcome to contact Austal's directly. All the jobs are there on offer whichever route you choose. It will bypass the system if it comes through me but the outcome will be the same so completely up to you.

I couldn't find any company's offering 457's straight up when I was trying so figure this may be a good opportunity for the right people. It's a good company to work for and they definitely respect and reward committed workers with their head screwed on.

    Regards, Tom

  2. Great opportunity for above mentioned trades. My Employer is looking to take on a lot of workers starting after Christmas. Good reliable company in Perth building Government and Commercial Aluminium Vessels. 4 day 40 hour week as standard with overtime

Friday and Saturday when we are busy.

457 visa's available to all trades!!!

Send me your Resume for it to be fast tracked to HR.

  3. I came over last August on a working holiday visa. I was warned by a few people on the internet that I was taking a big risk and I didn't have a great plan.

It's now 10 months on, I was offered a 457 after 2 months and I accepted after 6. Once I had decided to stay out here I started the ball rolling for a PR application and come September the 4th I will have enough points to apply and fingers crossed will have the visa by Christmas.

I am single with no kids so I only have me to worry about if things go wrong. Don't ignore the people warning you off but don't let it put you off too much either. Its a bit of a risk but it may be the best risk you ever take :)

  4. You can upload everything in advance. But be wary regarding your time line as you have to enter Aus within a year of medical sand PCC from what I have been led to believe.

Thanks for the reply, thats great news :)

Being in Australia wont be a problem, I am currently in Perth on a 457 and dont intend on going anywhere else apart from the 3 month Europe trip.

It seems like I will need a specific reference number linked to my application to book the medical. At what point can I get hold of this number and how do I get it?

  5. Hey all, so I have my technical interview on Thursday for skills assessment, and once September the 4th comes around I can claim points for Australian work experience and apply for a 189 visa

There is a strong chance that I will be heading to Europe for 3 months from the middle of September to carry out some warranty work for my company. I really would like to get my application in so hopefully someone can start processing it while I'm away.

Is it possible to upload medical and PCC with my other documents or do I have no other option but to wait to do medical once a CO is allocated?

    Tom

  6. So I think I have everything I need to make an application to Vic Uni to have my skills assessed. I have 2 employer statements from my last 2 employers which covers the required work experience in the last 3 years.

On the application form it asks to list all relevent positiions that I have been employed in and employer statements for all. I have worked for a third relevant company in the last few years but was not going to include this as the company has now closed down and I wont be able to get any evidence.

So do I include the position on the application form but include no evidence? Do I leave it out but still put it on my CV? Or do I just leave it out all together?

For submitting the photo's; do I stick 2 photos to the application form and scan it and email it? Or do I send just this page of the application form by post with the photos attached? Or just send 2 certified photos in mail?

    Thanks all!

  7. So you asked for advice and I will share mine. If you have a highly sought after graduate role in UK, I cannot think why you would give that up in order to take a backwards step in Australia. Someone who has cut their teeth in UK will be much better regarded than someone who did so in Australia on any international stage. I would recommend putting plans on hold, getting yourself more established with a solid post qualification track record in UK. Then revisit this in a couple of years or so.

By then maybe you could be a really attractive employment prospect and could be commanding what you want to do and where.

Regardless of when you move, I cannot think why you would go for a WHV when you would qualify for a skilled migrant visa, the skilled migrant visa will stand you in much better stead and you will be taken more seriously by employers than the average WHV holder.

I will second parts of what Rupert has said from my personal experience. You would probably be better off getting some solid experience in the UK first before you come over and try and make it, especially in the current work climate over here.

I came over to Perth on a working holiday visa 4 weeks ago, I'm a boilermaker/boat builder by trade. I've come across quite a few job adverts stating 'Working Holiday Visa holders need not apply'. I was very fortunate to get a job building boats in my first week of looking but that was out of 15 applications and I only heard back from 1 application. They have offered me a 457 while I apply for permanent residency but I now need to think long and hard before I give up the working holiday visa and potentially be stuck with this employer until the PR go's through. I may have no choice though since there is plenty of boilermakers with PR looking for work over here at the moment so its pretty unlikely for me to find any other work. I'm definitely not complaining, its nice to have at least a couple of options and feel very lucky to have found a job so quick. It just gives you an idea of what situation you could end up in :)

  8. Interesting question that I've wondered about before.

Im in Perth on a WHV but want to put an EOI in for PR. At what stage would I need to leave the country?

I've also noticed there is an onshore and offshore vetassess option?

Sorry for the thread jack but thought the answer to this may be useful for others attracted to this thread.

  9. If you have 60 points already then you don't need any extra points from gaining a high score in IELTS. Whether you still need to pass a certain mark I'm not 100% sure.

  10. Hey all,

So I've been in Perth a few weeks now on a working holiday visa. I've been offered a job and after the 3 month probation period, as long as both parties are happy, they have offered to switch me over to a 457 visa whilst I apply for permanent residency off my own back.

Now I'm just wondering if any issues may arise from this situation or is this a fairly normal situation?

    Thanks PIO :)

  11. Thanks Tee, I'm going to print some practice papers out today and start practising and I may get a tutor for the speaking part.

I see your a migration agent; you may be able to answer another question for me if its not too much trouble.

To get a positive skills assessment I need to have worked for at least 12 months out of the last 2 years in my nominated trade. From April 2011 to April 2012 I was in New Zealand on a working holiday and only worked 8 months out of the 12. I have also been travelling for 5 months this year so I do not have the 12 months needed. The working holiday in New Zealand was organised and part funded by my employers in the UK and I was still on the books with them for the year so technically still employed. I have a letter from them stating I started in August 2004 and left in December 2012 with no mention of the gap. Would this be suitable to use as evidence for the skills assessment and visa application with no pay slips to back up the whole time. Or is there another way around this considering my circumstances? Once I have worked here for 3 months I will have the full 12 months needed so I will wait until then if there is no other way. It would be really good to get the ball rolling straight away though.

Im looking for a migration agent and having a look at your website at the moment so you may get a call shortly :)

  12. Hi all, been in Perth 3 weeks now and have decided to get my application for permanent residency under way.

My main concern is getting enough points on the speaking part of the test with my thick Cornish accent and slightly thick brain:wacko:. Who has managed to get 8's across the board?

I need to get 8's across the board to receive 20 points, which will give me 65 points in total. That brings me to my next question. As the independent application cue is based on points, am I likely to ever get an invitation with 65 points? I wouldn't mind going for state sponsorship but would rather the freedom of working in any state.

    Thanks, Tom

  13. Been in Perth for a week now and just about have all my tickets sorted so will be starting to apply for jobs next week.

Going to get my Resume professionally written next week along with covering letters for a couple of different jobs. Now im on a working holiday visa and understand that puts me to the bottom of the pile, but I have enough points to apply for PR myself and will do this if I can land a job. Is it worth putting something about this in my Resume or covering letter?

  14. I never thought of doing a white card for site work before coming to perth wa,and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the white card and blue cards are for are they the same?if not what are each for or do you need both?

I normally wait for employers to pay for things like this back in uk,but i thought i better have this and maybe working against me in finding work, but im just looking for info as to what both are for and why there is blue and white im sure they are the same.

Im pretty sure the white card was brought in to replace the blue card. The advice Ive had is to get as many tickets as you can that are relevant to your trade as there are more than likely alot of other people going for the same job that already have the relevant tickets. Im booked in with choice industrial training to do white card, confined spaces and working at heights along with having my qualifications recognized as aqf qualifications. Theyve done me a good deal on all that so deff worth contacting them if your going to do a few tickets.

  15. I'm a fabricator by trade with NVQ3 certification. There is two ways I could have gone about getting my qualifications recognized. I could either go through Trades Recognition Australia which would probably take a couple of months but would be the cheaper option. Or do a recognized prior learning course once I land in Perth next month.

I've decided to go the recognized prior learning route as it will only take a couple of weeks, and with a couple of extra days training I should be able to get a level 4 AQF qualification. I presume it would be the same for your trade.
