  1. I'm thinking that it's my best bet too in a way, the job I do is on the SOL but I don't believe I actually have the correct qualifications, although I'm sitting a course in the next month which I think may. Sorry I'm a little uncertain about some things... If I was to come over on a WHV and I'm not on the skilled occupation list, would I still have the chance to move permanently? Or is it if your not on that list then you can't move over?
  2. Anyone know much about this company? I've read back in the UK that they are starting to make a Steelmaking plant near Brisbane. This is the exact same work that I do and I also understand they are not many Steelmaking plants open in the world anymore. Does anyone know much contact details for this company or anything? All i can find is a phone number and an address which i written to some months ago. I did recieve a e-mail about them over a year ago saying they would be keen to chat once the plants sorted out but since then the e-mail address has been deleted.
  3. I've been working the last 6 months in my normal place of work but been placed into a secondment within our safety team, this has lead me to look into health and safety jobs in Oz as i am now looking at doing my NEBOSH, would this be enough to gain employment / visa? Anyone who has done this before, was the National certificate reconised as I have been told not to bother doing the International one as they still reconise the National Certificate. Cheers!
  4. I'm currently looking at coming over to Australia, just deciding if i should hold out trying to get permenant visa or come over and do a year or 2 whilst looking for work, would love to get to know some people who could possibly help me out abit. Totally unsure where to start off so any advice would be great! ( 26 year old male )
  5. Hello I'm looking into moving to Australia after falling in love with it when i visited Perth around 2 years ago. I've currently got 7 years experience in the Steel Industry, 3 years being in the pipe manufacturing side of things, and the other 4 years within a Steelmaking setting. I have little qualifications that i feel would be enough to get me over, but do have alot of experience and knowledge. I have simple things such as Forklift license, slinging certificates, IOSH, Can deliver manual handling courses. But i have also had 3 years experience on repair welding fixing defects on pipes, a good knowledge into steel making / casting, I worked for 6 months on a safety team, looking into completing my NEBOSH course. Whats the chances of me getting work over there? I feel my girlfriend should be fine as she has just finished university doing Early Childhood Studies, and now has a job in a nursery.
  6. would I be able to risk a years working visa and look for someone willing to sponsor me? do you think I should try and do some more courses on the side of my job? I just want to get over to oz so bad! haha! Thanks,
  7. I will have a look on there now and see what it says! I just find the problem being that the company I worked for owns the course certificates that they put me on, so I didn't know if I would be able to go through experience or what? I would be willing to pay for qualifications over here in the UK but I don't know if its worth it when I could get some Australian qualifications which may help me even more over there.
  8. What is the standard of welding to be classed as a First Class Welder in Australia? I done repair welding on pipes ranging from 18 inch up to 84 inch, which I was up too Lloyds Standards, although my certificates which I gained was paid and now owned by my old job. I also have a CSWIP Level 2 in MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) Do you think I would stand much chance on getting a VISA? Thanks Jamie
  9. Hello people! Im new here, looking at moving to Australia. Working the steel industry but willing to learn other things any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  10. Just a silly question here. Im unsure if my skills would be classed as skilled, as I do one of the jobs, but some of my certificates where owned by my old job as they paid for the course in which I done. Anyway. I have other certificates and experience in things which I feel might be taken into consideration, I.e I am a qualified football "soccer" coach which I feel would help the community, do things like this get considered?
  11. Hello, I'm new to this message board and a complete beginner. First of all I visited Australia last month for the first time, and stayed with friends in Bunbury near Perth, and what can I say, I fell in love with it. I've worked in a Steel pipe production company for 2 years where I learned to weld, I done repair welding on defected pipes involving some MMA and MIG, along with this I gained a CSWIP Level 2 in Metal Particle Inspection (MPI). I then got offered a job for more money which I'm now unsure if I should of took as it taken me away from the welding side of things, I now work in a steel production plant where I gained a forklift license, slinging certificate and a working at heights certificate. Do you think I would find work and get a VISA ok? if not, what could I do to help. Thanks Jamie
