  1. Sad but doesn't sound like he is 100% Australian, he may have been born here but sounds as though he has middle eastern connections.
  2. You will find some things dearer and some things cheaper that is just how it is, but rurally you might find it dearer again because it is isolated, my colleague was in Albany the other day and said when she bought lunch it was the same price as in the city $9! Seemed abit steep to me and it wasn't some upper class cafe either.
  3. Tough Decision! And the dreams are certainly not silly these feelings are obviously weighing on your subconscious mind alot. If you have been here 3 years then I would say you are probably over the initial homesickness however the feelings may never go away and when you do unfortunately lose a family member it is even harder I know. If you both feel as though your ready to return and have "done" Aus maybe it is time. Only you two can decide, good luck!
  4. I can sympathise completely with the OP, I was a child in a household where one parent had everything their way and subsequently I no longer have contact for that and many other reasons. It is very tough and I wonder how different things would have turned out if mum had the opportunity/support needed to raise us in the UK. Maybe my parents wouldn't have divorced? Maybe we would be better off financially & mentally? Who knows! All I know is that I am returning with my mum to the UK next year so we can be surrounded by the family that is left. Good luck and don't spend your life somewhere you aren't happy!
  5. Sorry to hear about your situation:hug:I apologise if this question is off limits, but is your husband not supporting you financially?
  6. Its pretty common, my sister had it and the doc put her on meds but it has since got better and I don't think she takes them anymore. Don't stress and feel better soon!
  7. I think it depends on the builder but I do agree with you, they need to take ideas from other countries and adapt them here however it must suit the climate.

    Shipping times

No I was on a shared groupage, so this may have a bearing on the timeline. From experience customs seems to take longer here than they do over there. I would allow 10 weeks it seems to be the average.
  9. I have no doubt things could be better here also

    Shipping times

It depends but anywhere around 8 weeks as a minimum I would say. Mine took 10 weeks going to uk and then 12 weeks coming back to oz.
  11. depends, but it roughly takes 6-8 weeks. I would say take only things that are either sentimental or more expensive to buy in the uk. Shipping can get pricey from what I have heard a 20ft container can be in the region of $5k.
  12. You could build another house for that price, sounds abit out of wack! They probably don't want to do it or are trying it on with you. Get another opinion for sure.
  13. If your a single income young person wanting to buy a house and NOT earning $100k plus per year and lets face it not many 20+ somethings would be then it is tough! Not everyone has mum and dad to help them out and saving a deposit that large on a small wage could take 10+ years!

    Are you covered?

be careful with relying on super if you are partially disabled and can no longer work in your employed field in the eyes of insurance you may not be eligible for a payout because you can still work just not in what you were doing before. Different for each provider though and worth checking!
  15. Very good point actually if you bought from a dealer you are protected by the consumer laws to a certain extent, I'd call Legal/Consumer Aid for advice its free after all!
  16. Not a good idea just to run from it, I would call the bank (they can work out a payment plan) and then you can return to the uk and continue paying once you have a job.
  17. Sounds like you have made your decision and I am sure your kids will adjust fine, they are still young after all! Good luck to you all
  18. Its a tough call to make but I will say one thing having grown up without extended family, it is nice to have a relationship with your cousins and aunts/uncles. I have just got it back after all my childhood without them and now as an adult I am moving to the UK as most of the family is there. You will no doubt go through emotions all the time if you miss home, do you miss the place or the people though and why did you leave? These are all questions only you can answer. Good luck!
  19. Absolutely agree! I was born in Aus and all my extended family is in the UK and me and mum are moving back next year so we are all together, can't wait!!
  20. Thanks fizzybangs, that will help put her mind at ease abit!
  21. If you want affordable and near the beach you will be subject to an hour plus commute to the CBD.
  22. As i said each to their own, it might be interesting to you but ive lived here my whole life and seen loads of Australia to know.
  23. Alot of people I think you'll find, each to their own!

    Returning to Wales

I know exactly what you mean everyone used to look at me funny or make that "WHY" comment when I was over there in 2008, they couldn't believe I'd left Aus for the UK! Can't wait to go back next year
  25. What does everyone mean by largish amounts of money? Say over $100k, abit wary about transferring large amounts of money online when its not done by the bank. Who would be the best for this? Or are they all the same.
