  1. Hello, a long time since Ive been on PIO, and I hope this is the right place for my question.

We came out here nearly five years ago on the 143 visa.  We have now been accepted as Citizens.  Will we now be able to have our Assurance of Support ($14,000) refunded, or do we still have to wait the ten years?  Of course, that all depends on being able to negotiate the Centre.ink system!!

Thank you, in the hope that someone else has gone through this experience.

  2. Ooh thanks everybody for your replies.  I had thought it could be done from here, but I was concerned that it might take a long time.  I think I then I  have to notify Immi on form 9209 of the new passport details, although the Visa will still be on the old one. Let's hope it doesn't get lost!

    thsnk you all again.

  3. I did find a post for the year 2014, so thought the replies might not be accurate now!  On the post, it refers to being able to renew UK passports here in Australia.  Is this still the case?  I live in Perth WA now, Permanent Resident for the past couple of years, so if it's possible to renew here, would be so much easier.

Ii'm sure someone out there will have an answer, so I thank you in advance for any help.

  4. Yes, tend to agree with you.  Not so easy to see what thread you want to follow.  Also, some days bombarded with stuff, even though I've tried to sort what and when I want to receive posts.  When I originally joined, I don't recall having to choose, it just happened!

Thanks, I think I may have sorted it out now, following advice.  Let's wait and see!

It's difficult knowing what to set as the 'default' when setting the forum up. When the forum came back online, evidently some members who hadn't been online for years were getting bombarded with email notifications about threads they'd posted on in the past - suffice to same I got one or two complaints, so I probably turned off the default email options, then members could choose on an individual basis what they wanted to receive. I should of posted about it though as it's new forum software and there's no guide explaining how things work (which there was with the previous software).

Ooh, I think I have sorted it out, following your advice.  Let's wait and see what happens in the next few days. Thank you.

I have the same problem.  I checked Followed Content and my setting is for immediate notification but I don't get any emails, and there's nothing in my junk folder either.  I did at first get an occasional notification but have had nothing for a week or so.

Yes, I'm still trying to sort it out, although I did receive a PM today.

At the moment, it looks like you're set to get 1 email per day for that thread with all the updates from that day.

If you click this link -> https://www.pomsinoz.com/followed/ or alternatively click on your name at the top right of any of the forum pages, then "Manage Followed Content' you'll be able to change type type and frequency of notifications you get. If everything looks ok there, then I'd check Gmail's spam/junk folders or similar.

Thanks Cerberus, I'll have a look.

    Hi there Carob,

How are you getting on then? wow 2 years that has gone so quickly !!

Yeah we waited until the last minute really to go for it.. still got lots to sort here. Just decorating etc at the mo in prep for selling.

    ill PM you

Thanks for the PM Tabitha 10.  I will respond to it, but I'm still trying to resurrect this thread, as nothing is coming into my email; apart from the one you just sent.

best of luck with the decorating! xx

  10. Oh dear Cerberus 1, here I am again.  Not sure what's happening, but I'm not receiving any replies in my emails from PIO, usually I'm on the Parents Visa thread.  So far I've posted two replies and not had anything in my box.  Not sure if that makes sense, but I'll blame it on my new IPad!! Hope you can sort me out, with thanks in advance.

Ooh tabitha10.  Still here then ??  I remember chatting to you at the start of our joint journeys.  We've been here two years now, and still learning.  It will seem a bit of a rush at the end, but will be worth it for you. xx

  12. I'm afraid I'm cheating a bit with this, due mainly due to the fact that I no longer receive anything from this thread into my emails.  So I'm hoping this will resurrect the process ??

Best of luck to all of you in the queue, we thought it bad enough at nineteen months, but we are pleased we sold our house and rented for six months whilst waiting.  It certainly took the pressure off whe it came the time to move over.

  13. Cerberus1.  Thanks for your reply.  Well, the Unread Contents box seems to have disappeared.  Did find it yesterday, but not today, maybe I'm starting from the wrong part.  The original New Posts was more straightforward to use ( for me anyway ) can't see others having any difficulties though, so must be my age!!

  14. Interesting reading. We have two accounts in the UK, one has a regular monthly amount paid into it, so no problem that it might be closed down due to inactivity. However, I am concerned about the other account that has not had any movement on it for about two years now (since we moved here on PR's). How likely is it, that the bank might close it down? We use a friend's address for correspondence, as at the time understood that the banks would not issue/send any new debit cards to an overseas address.

I'm sure someone on here will have a definitive answer on this. These forums are soo useful.

  15. Hi,

My dual nationality partner has around $50k in a Media Super fund in Oz back from when he lived and worked there. It's not very well performing so we were wondering if any one could recommend an Independent Financial Advisor to get it better invested. We've just found out it can't be transferred to the UK where he is now resident.

    Any advice welcomed!

    Cheers

Sorry a bit late with this question. Just wondering for what reason A transfer cannot be made to the UK? I do realise the rules between the two countries can be complicated. Actually this was my OH's query!!

Please PM me if the reason is confidential. Thank you. C.

  16. Happy anniversary to us - two years in the waiting room today - tried to get out of our seats to stretch our legs but couldn't get up!

Anyhow we've got our 600 visas now so off to Perth on the 19 July to wait in a better waiting room!

    All the best

    Steve

Uuum, oh dear two years Steve, what a wait, but at least you will be here when the visa is granted. Well actually not here, but offshore somewhere exotic ??!! I will make a note in my diary for when you arrive, perhaps we will actually manage to meet up soon. You do sound very organised, long may you continue to be. First thing to do when you become a permanent resident, is to get your Senior's Card, then you are able to get a driving licence for 50% of the normal fee; plus other benefits.

Enjoy your next couple of weeks in the UK.
