  1. Hi All,

I am currently on a 489 visa; and would be eligible for the 887 (permanent residency) by the end of the month. After receiving the the 489 in Nov 2013, got married last year and my OH moved here this January on the 489 subsequent entry visa.

I know I have completed the requirements (2 yrs regional stay and 1 yr full-time work) for the 887; however my OH has not. Would she be eligible for a PR when she is added on my visa application?

    Cheers!!

  2. Hi All,

I was granted a NT sponsored 489 visa in November 2013. I entered into Australia on 20th June 2014. Since then I have been residing in Darwin and working full time as per the visa conditions. However during this period I left the country 2 times on holidays totaling 40 days.

Will I be eligible to apply for the 887 visa (permanent residency) after the 20th June this year or would i need to wait an additional 40 days due to the time away on holidays?

    Thank you for your input.

  3. Ok,... So my OH got the visa today, we got the email with the grant letter which is all good .. however we are not able to view it the grant letter through the immi account we created. It shows "finalized" online. But the "view grant letter" doesn't seem to work.

Is anyone facing the same issue?

    Cheers!!

  4. Hi All,

I am in Au on a 489 and i will be applying for a subsequent entry for my OH. I am totally lost with the process. Where do i start. Is it as simple as submitting the application online? or would I need an agent's help. What documents would i need to submit? Would our marriage certificate be enough evidence as we are newly weds or would i need to submit any other proof ?

    Please help!!!! Thank you

  5. Hi Sun2

I had the same experience. Got a 489 instead of 190. On the bright side; its comparatively easier to find jobs here if your willing to work hard. In a blink of an eye 8 months have past since i came here and its been a good experience so far.

I guess you are right Scattley. As I also filed my application as NT SS 190 and only this morning got a news that they have offered me 489 and given me a time frame of 28 days to confirm if I would be interested to apply in this category.

Since I'd be moving in with my wife and an 8yrs old son, I need to know the advantages and disadvantage of 489.

Keeping mind the fact that, something is better than nothing I am quite convinced to lock 489.

But anyone out there would like to a add a few suggestions/advise would make things clearer for me.

    Cheers,

  6. Thanks for the Input guys.. My OH doesn't have a UK passport but her English is as good as a native speaker. From the link Ozmaniac has provided; i think she can prove that all her education was in english.

Can I (on a 489) sponsor her on a visitor visa until the subsequent entry gets approved. I have been reading that it might take up to 3 months for it to come through and i want to get her here ASAP.

    thanks

  7. Hi welcome to the group..

Good to know that there are still a few AMEs looking to come over. I have replied o your PM.

    Regards

Hi everyone I am a B1 licensed aircraft engineer applying for a Northern Territory state sponsored Visa. I am 24 years old and have been working for a major airline in the UK for 7 years. I was after some advice as to how likely it is my visa application will go through and what the work opportunities are like for an AME in Northern Territory. I know they are very broad questions and any help is appreciated, many thanks.
  8. Hi everybody.

I moved to Darwin 2 weeks ago and since then i have been applying for every job i could find. However, I haven't got any calls for an interview. Not one. I don't know if I am doing something wrong here. I have got a forklift license as well a few days back hoping that it would increase my chances of employment.

I know its been only 2 weeks, but still, at least the hope of getting a job would lift my spirits.

    Citation

  9. Hi citation, where are you living and what type of work are you looking for? There's quite a few job agencies that are pretty good with finding jobs - we both went through Hays and they found us work within the first few days.

    Hi Sazm,

Thats very reassuring and good to know . I am an aircraft engineer, but i am flexible and open to any kind of work. Could you give me the address for these guys? Thanks.

  10. Hi Sazm

I am in Darwin now. Came in last week and looking into finding work. Any tips or leads would be appreciated. I am alone here and going crazy.. The suburbs go quiet after 6 .. something that i am not used to.

    Hi Accie,

I think short term that $80,000 would be fine for you both to live off and your girlfriend should also pick up admin work quite easily in Darwin! Me and my partner both work in admin type jobs and picked up work within the first week we arrived here.

I can give you a breakdown of our outgoings ... we pay $530 a week in rent, $150 a week in food (this is food only and no alcohol and some weeks we do go over), approximately $400 per quarter in power. We have a car and put $60 a fortnight petrol in it and this lasts the full 2 weeks with me driving to work every day. In terms of lifestyle Darwin is great - although we struggle in the wet season with the humidity. There's lots of camping around Darwin and places to go and visit in the dry season. Things are very expensive though generally - we've only lived in Darwin though for any extended period of time but people we know here who have moved from other cities do say its expensive and we have struggled a bit with this.

Let me know if you need any more information and if you wanted to catch up for a few drinks when you both arrive in Darwin - I'm here with my fiancé and we're always looking to meet new people :)

  11. Good Question!!!

I have a 489 and would like to know this as well... To be on the safe side, i would move after the PR comes through.

    Hi guys

Thanks in advance if anyone can answer...

We are close to receiving our 489 visa, it isnt really a state we want to settle in, but needs must as it is the only state sponsoring us.

Once we have done our 2 years, can we move and apply for the 887, or do we have to stay put in that state until our 887 comes through meaning you end up having to stay in that state for more like 2 years and 6 months !!

    Cheers

  12. Hi Bob

Firstly is it Dubai or Abu Dhabi? Usually Etihad flies to Abu Dhabi...

In any case... there will not be customs in both airports.. u will be in the transit lounge and you bags will be checked in until Adelaide...U can always confirm this when u check them in at Dublin..

One thing though... Both airports are huge... If you have small children you may want to hustle to the next gate just in case your flight arrives late into the UAE.

    Hi all.

We plan on shipping out to Adelaide in August. We have found a great offer via IOM, flying with Ethihad. This includes 40k allowance for each of us (2 adults, 2 children) which is also great.

The stop over is in Dubai but the connecting flight to Adelaide leaves 1 and a half hours after we land in Dubai from Dublin. Is this enough time? Both flights are Ethihad. Will we have to collect our baggage and check in again in Dubai or will the baggage be transferred? Would we have to clear customs in Dubai etc?

    Any help appreciated

    Bob

  13. waiting seems to be dying....june running on no CO till know.....whole concerntration on this..........

patience is a virtue... its a good thing that you haven't heard back, this could mean that you already have a CO and all your docs are in order... so it would most likely be a direct grant!!!

  14. Money corp is a safe bet. You dont need have money corp in your country to open an account. they just needed address and identity proof. I opened mine form the Middle east and the transfers were simple. You get a better rate too. I did small amounts usd 10K approx but you can do a big amount at one shot for better rate

  15. Hi Sindhi,

Welcome and Good luck for your visa.

Its not strange to get a 489 after applying for the 190 with NT. If you look at the statistics; NT is the only place that offers more 489s than 190s.

I assume they look at the probability a candidate is likely to stay permanently in NT i.e. If he/she has real ties to the territory. They would not like to issue 190s only to have the candidate settle elsewhere..

    Hi friends,

I have just joined this forum, need some information, I have applied for State Sponsorship for Northern Territory, I applied on 7th April, got initial acknowledgment on 9th April, How long more it takes to get offer from NT.

I have seen here most of the members apply for 190 and got 489, it is strange!! what,s the reason?

    Thanking you in advance.

  16. Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has moved their car from India to Melbourne.

I am based in Delhi. What would be the average cost I should be prepared to pay?

I have a 1.5 year old Suzuki Wagon-R which works on petrol as well as CNG.

    Thanks.

    Piyu.

Hi Piyu.. before you go ahead with looking at options for transportation, You may want to check if cars manufactured for the Indian market meet the AU safety standards.

    regards

  17. Hi citation

had a look at the NT SS again and your right isn't really that scary after all.

i have a question/concern about my commitment letter. The thing is I don't have clue about NT lol. If it was about QLD it would be a different story. When we first started this whole process the plan was to get to QLD as we have family there but because of my occupation being moved to the CSOL and QLD don't need my skills Ive had to look elsewhere.

my question is have you actually been to NT all was your commitment letter purely based on internet research? I think I might need to take a little time out to researching NT a bit better. And also what about job opportunities for AMEs? Most work I see being advertised online and seek have been for other states. Perhaps you could tell me a few names of airports around NT where I can center my research on?

again, any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Lee

    hi Lee,

i am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I have been monitoring Seek.com for some time now and there are not many AME jobs posted. All i found were, jobs in planning or clerical sector in aviation and based in Darwin. Brisbane seems to be the hotspot for aviation now in AU. Regarding the commitment letter, I had based it mainly on internet research. I am sending you a PM with more info on that.

    Cheers.
