  1. Hi scubaslocs. To meet people here in the Redlands, you really need to get involved in various groups and activities. There are a number of running/walking groups - check the local paper and the library website, but off the top of my head there is a group that meets every Saturday in Thornlands and another that meets at Victoria Point, and numerous others. Also try Meetups on line - there are a number of groups that organise drinks and dinner get togethers locally for various age groups. It depends what your interest are. I am relatively new to this area and I've found that I've met a number of people at the local dog park. You would be surprised just how many people are in the same situation as you........you've just got to get out and join a number of groups until you find the one that is right for you - from there friendships grow!

  2. Anyone arriving from another country - or city within Australia, would do best to rent first. As I said before the Redlands grow on you and you get to know what areas within the Redlands you prefer to others. For me I find it strange that I have settled so well. I've always lived in big cities around the world and always made sure that I was close to good public transport. Who would have thought....I now drive everywhere and live on an acreage and really like it. I don't have to go to Brisbane and so rarely do....I find everything that I need here.

When I do go to Brisbane I usually take the bus - the parking is too expensive in Brisbane. I know that other parts of the Redlands are better serviced by public transport than where I am so overall, I don't think public transport is too bad.

  3. I've lived close to Victoria Point for a couple of years now. It's like a big country town. Lots of Brits, South Africans, NZ's and "Blow Ins" from other parts of the country live in the Bayside area. It is a distance from the city but an easy commute to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the airport. House prices are also affordable. I actually really like living here. So many people are new to the area that it is easy to meet new friends. I believe that its a healthy place to bring up kids. Not the most sophisticated of places....but hey this is Queensland, Australia! It grows on you!

  4. Hi we are planning on going away for a month's holiday and we hate the thought of our dog spending that length of time in a kennel. I found a site advertising for house sitters and I was wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences with getting some one to look after their house and pets. It's a little daunting having someone that I don't know living in my home.
