  1. Just wondering if anyone could give me some help and advice please? My boyfriend (aged 29) and I (aged 25) have decided to go to Australia for a year next May on a working holiday visa to experience the culture / decide if we'd want to move there long term. I am a qualified chartered accountant and have worked in audit for the past 6 years. My boyfriend is an administrator for a bank however apart from a-levels this is all the qualifications that he has. Does anybody know what the job prospects would be like and how easy it would be to get a job? Would it be best to get a job when over there so that we can attend interviews as opposed to trying to secure one whilst in the Uk? We've set the date but we've only just started our research so any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thank you
  2. Thanks for all the replies, they've all been really useful. Part qualified is basically the point where you just have sat all the professional level exams and just have 3 'finals' to sit to become chartered. A lot of jobs in the UK will either advertise for a 'part qualified' or 'fully qualified'. However I think seeing as though work are paying for my tuition and exams and I can have them all finished by Novemember (provided I pass) then it does make sense to do these and get them out of the way as from your replies it definitely seems like this would make the application process a lot easier. Thanks for the heads up on Jonathan being able to come on my skilled visa - this takes a bit of pressure off!! In terms of a job I would look to move within the firm I work for at the moment initially - mainly for security because as you said there's no guarentee we'd find work if we went out there with nothing lined up. From reading other posts on the forum it seems it would be easier to get a different job once I've got a couple of years work experience in an Australian work environment. I have looked into the WHV - and even though it seems to be a good short term fix and will get us into Aus for a year I'm not convinced in the long term it would work out the best way if we decided we wanted to stay. I think I would rather have everything lined up and sorted for the long term whilst we are still in the UK and have the security of a job / regular income behind us.
  3. Thank you My occupation is on the list but I can't see anything to do with banking on there. I'm thinking if Jonathan can get a transfer to one of his companies offices in Australia then that may be one of the easier ways of him getting in. I've contacted Go Matilda so hopefully they'll get back to me soon and I can discuss our situation with them Thanks again for you help
  4. Hi everyone, We're new to this site and would really appreciate some help / guidence. My name's Beth (age 23) and my partner's name is Jonathan (age 27) - we're looking for a move to Aus in the near future. After hours of searching the web I seem to be getting nowhere fast and so just wondered if someone could help us out. I'm almost a part-qualified ACA accountant (one exam left to sit in the summer) and am currently employed by one of the larger accountancy firms in the UK. Jonathan works for the bank of new york as a foreign exchange administrator. We have no ties in the UK and have decided that before we end up with a mortgage / become tied down etc we would like to move to Australia and start our lives together over there. We are willing to do whatever it takes / start again at the bottom of the career ladder if we need to. What are the first steps that we should be taking to start this process and does anyone know what the chances of us being able to get a visa / job in Australia are? It seems fairly easy to get the one year working visa however due to us wanting to settle in Australia long term I'm not convinced / unsure as to whether this is the best route to take? Apologies if this seems to be a really basic / obvious question but any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
