  1. Hi

I arrive in Sydney in two weeks and after our first week there we are looking at travelling down to Melbourne, i have been looking on the internet and i have found flying to be a cheaper option than getting the coach and it is a lot quicker, But i have also found a good deal on a relocation camper van down to Sydney aswell but i have a couple questions to ask as i am confused by some of the terms that they use and hopefully you will be able to help me out? (there offices are shut so i would of been able to ask them).

Is someone able to put this into simple terms for me:

    'Travel Restrictions

For relocations, all vehicle types (incl. 4wd vehicles) can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads or well maintained access roads less than 500 metres long to recognized campgrounds.

For relocations, night driving (from dusk to dawn) is not permitted anywhere west of a line drawn between Mount Isa and Adelaide.

While you are on a relocation rental, if you are found to be driving on unsealed roads, driving in restricted areas and/or night driving west of a line drawn between Mt Isa and Adelaide, you will be fined $1500 by Apollo, even if no damage has occurred to the vehicle.'

As in would the above allow me to drive down the coast from Sydney to Melbourne along the great ocean road? or do i have to travel inland?

Also it is a 6 birth van, so would it be heavy on the fuel? How much roughly would you think in total would it cost from Sydney to Melbourne (just a quick guess)?

    Thanks :)

  2. Hi

So at the end of this month me and my friend land in Sydney to spend New Year there, We have booked our hostel to spend a week in Sydney with the plan to travel north from there and deciding where we was going to go when we get there ... But i have read recently people saying that it starts to get to the wet season up north around the Jan/Feb part of the year.

Will it still be hot (liveable) and sunny? Or will it start to get miserable?

Should we be thinking of travelling down south, do the west then travel to the north east cost around august/september next year and travel back down to Sydney?

We also want to obviously travel the right way round Australia to make sure we get work in order to hopefully get our visa extended for another year

Hope you can help me with my many questions :D Thanks in advance :)

  3. For a family sponsored skilled migrant visa you would still need to pass a skills assessment which requires a degree for your occupation and further the occupation would need to be on schedule 1 of the SOL, which it is not. Cousin sponsorship is not an option for you.

And to poster above, sharing facts about immigration is not making "negative comments". I guess we could sit here and make lovely encouraging noises whilst OP sells his house and browses Australian real estate. But it won't help in the long run.

Gotta be honest here,i agree with Rupert fwiw,i dont think people are being negative, they're just not sugar coating things,Rupert posts in a very matter of fact/pragmatic way, like compassion passed her by,but she's very helpful re visa's etc,so i couldn't knock her that way, gotta give credit where it's due,but she does come across as a miserable bas7ard:laugh::wubclub:

I think how i wrote that came across wrong, What i was trying to say was even though that the posts on here may 'seem' negative as in they was putting a negative on the fact of the user trying to come over to Australia. The points being made was actually true and i believe what everyone was saying

I hope that clears it up?

  4. i know i don't have much input into this seeing as i am in a different boat as i am going across on a WHV, But from a outsider view on this thread sure it looks like they are all giving you negative comments . . . But i fully agree with what they are saying about how hard it is to get into Australia, Maybe take all the links that have been provided and actually try and spend some time going over them and know them inside out?

  5. So I went to Pacific fair today which is the big mall in the Gold Coast I believe could be wrong? Went to a few phone shops looking for a simcard and I found virgin to be the best for what my needs were being on a WHV. I walked into vodafone and the women was really trying to push me onto some $40 a month package, I wasnt phased and left telling her I need to see what other offers were about, she game me a piece of paper with some info and her name. Would she get a commission if she sells it me? Way to pushy and I went with Virgin in the end. I did a full write up on my blog and reviewed the basic packages of the major carries.

I have got a few leads for work in the rural areas, I hope something picks up in the next day or so. I see some places were you must stay in there accommodation and pay 2 weeks up front + bond, are these legit?

    Awesome pictures of the beach!

I have been looking on the internet for who to go with for when we land in Aus, and i have found virgin to be the best value for money :) Handy that they have shops dotted over the place to so will deffo be going into one when we land, About the vodafone lady yea i would presume that she is on commission as thats what they are in the UK?
