  1. Cheers, but no work going on either of them. Starting to get majorly stressed out now, tried every number we've found, tried every place that does banana picking in queensland that i know of and every one of them says they have no work. Our visas are up at the end of August and Im starting to worry big time that we wont get enough work to sort out our 88 days. Will literally take work anywhere we can find if its goiny be fairly consistant. Not booked flights yet but leaving our unit on sat and trying everything to get something sorted for next week so we know where to fly to.
  2. Leaving Sydney on Saturday to chase down our 3 months farm work. We (my girlfriend and I) were thinking of heading to Cairns and maybe going to the Banana Barracks in Tulley to try there, having heard good reports, but Ive just phoned them and they said work has slowed down and they are close to full up. Is anyone in Queensland working just now that could recommend where to go? Are working hostels the best way to approach it as opposed to seeking out the farms yourself? Any up to date info would be appreciated.
  3. Me and my girlfriend are having a bit of a nightmare mate, were in Sydney but leaving in 2 weeks, but every contact, or job application we've went for, have said there too full, theres no work. The Harvest trail woman wasnt very helpful, basically told me we have no chance of getting our 3 months work done any time soon. Think were just goiny head to QLD or VIC and stay in some hostels in rural areas and try to pick up contacts. Really starting to panic a bit now but as our visa is up at end of August so need to get something sorted. Not as easy as I had been led to believe.
  4. Yeah, I wouldnt do that man, just wondering what the consequences would be
  5. Thats more like what I wanted to hear, cheers. Coincidentally, if someone were to not declare a tax return, what would the implications be if caught? Stump up the cash, or chucked out of the country, or worse?
  6. Hmm, thats different to everyone else ive heard of. Always thought you were given a rebate of the majority of it. Ah well, thats a bummer.
  7. No, we're hoping to gain a second year WHV through farm work, then will be going home. So all work carried through an ABN is taxable. By taxable, I mean you wont get a penny of that back once youve settled your tax return? How does it work for people who are employed, my girlfriend has been employed for 6 months and paying tax, will she receive some of it back at some point?
  8. Ive heard different reports back about this, in some cases Ive heard of people receiving all the tax they have paid back in a lump sum, in others Ive heard they have received some of it back. My situation is confusing me as I have been self employed for the last 6 months, working as a sub contractor. Due to this, I have paid no tax as of yet. How does this work when tax return time comes? Do I declare what Ive earned, and have to pay a tax sum, and then receieve some if not all of it back, or (hopefully) do I complete my tax return and then I'm given a sum to pay? For instance, if I should owe $20000 in tax, do I have to pay that in a one off, and then maybe claim some back, or is the money I would be getting back made on the calculation first? Reason being, I dont have $20000 saved up
  9. whats the next step in actually being granted your second year visa? Do you phone up immigration or something? What is the timescale? For instance, if my visa was due to run out on 28th aug, and i finished my 88 days on the 27th, what would I do? have to leave and come back, or would it be able to be sorted so you could stay via a bridging visa or something?
  10. Thanks for the advice. il try and get onto some of these and see if theres anything going. With a working hostel, you could be working anywhere for any length of time yeah? Like a week here and there, so you would need 88 actual days as aposed to 3 months?
  11. <p><p>Are you still looking for work in the Outback? add me on facebook and it can be sorted out. <a href="<a href="http://www.facebook.com/adam.simpson.7161" rel="external nofollow">http://www.facebook.com/adam.simpson.7161</a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/adam.simpson.7161" rel="external nofollow">http://www.facebook.com/adam.simpson.7161</a></a></p></p>

  12. Just found this forum the other night, thought Id join and ask for some advice. Me and my girlfriend arrived in Sydney last August and have been here since. We are renting a unit until May 1st, so were planning on staying till then, then hopefully doing our 3 month farm work/regional work then, and staying for another year. However, Im just off the phone to the Harvest Trail helpline, and the woman advised that it would be very difficult to gain the days needed for a second year visa in the time between 1st May and August 28th. She stated the bad weather as the main obstacle. However, after this info she wasnt that informative, or helpful. Is there any places just now that regional work is still thriving? Ideally it would be paid work, as we would hope to save up a bit to travel in Oz once farming is done. but if necessary, volunteer work would also be cool. We were advised to go further north of Sydney, to try and keep getting the sun, as aposed to going to Victoria, which weve been advised might be colder. Basically any info about any of this would be appreciated. Cheers.
