  1. Hi, we moved into a new rental a couple of days ago and there is an unbearable musty odour throughout the house My guess is that it is coming from the ducts, because the smell is strongest in the cupboard housing the return air duct. I think the sucts need cleaning. Has anyone had any experience of this? Also, do you know if this is paid for by the landlord? I will check with the property management on Tues but just wanted to see if anyone had had this done before and could give advice! Thanks
  2. Thanks Liz and Eera, I'll definitely give that a go! x
  3. Thanks Inthedeep, that's really reassured me! I'm hoping this will be the case and I'll think in a few weeks' time, why did I worry so much?! I've just heard horror stories from other people about bonds so I've got myself all worked up about it. Glad it worked out for you
  4. Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. I'm glad you agree that it should be classed as fair wear and tear. There is no actual damage like gouges and scratching, just denting. I'm definitely putting down rugs in the next house, although the wood seems to be a lot harder there. I think I will get some experts round to see what can be done and to provide quotes, in case there is legal dispute over the bond, but I won't go ahead with any repairs without talking to the agent first. I hope the agent is reasonable about this. Thanks again
  5. Hi, I've been renting a house with very soft wooden floorboards and there are some dents, especially around the dining table and chairs I put foam pads on the bottom of the chairs but there are still dents. With hindsight, I should have put down rugs in all the rooms but I hadn't lived with wood flooring before and I didn't know how easily it would dent. You can literally drop a light coat hanger and it will dent!! I feel like I'm walking on eggshells. I'm vacating soon and getting really stressed about my bond deposit being withheld for the floors. I'm thinking about getting quotes for repairing the floor, but I don't know the process of how it would be repaired - would all the floors need to be relevelled or can the repairer treat the small area in each room? I'd be really grateful if anyone can help with this! Someone told me that there is a thick layer of lacquer on top of the wood, and it is actually this which is dented, not the wood. That would explain why it dents so easily, but this person wasn't an expert. Every house I've been in in Oz has wooden floors so I thought this might be a regular problem for renters! Any help much appreciated! Thanks
