  1. You will need a 'trade' qualification.

Hi Wrussell, Thanks for the reply. I don't have a trade qualification as such. Do you reckon If I can get my work experience assessed for Telecommunications Technician occupation?

  2. You are really going to have to be more specific with your question. How qualifications and experience are assessed varies by every occupation.

Hi Bungo, thanks for the reply.

Trade occupation intend to apply: Telecommunications technician

Qualifications I hold: Master of Science (computer science), Bachelor of Science (Electronics and computer science)Certifications: Hardware technology, CCNA

Work experience: computer hardware technician - 2years, RF hardware technician 2 years, Modem Installation Technician-2 years

Please advise if I can get my skills assessed for Telecommunication Technician trade occupation.

  3. Hi Experts,

  4. Hello there,

Someone I know has a 3 years bachelors degree in Electronics, and 2 years masters degree in Computer science. has been working as RF engineer in communication industry. Looking into getting his skills assessed for Telecommunications field engineer 313212 by Engineers Australia. what are his chances of getting positive outcome? please shed some light.

    thank you in advance.

  5. It will depend on the situation.

If they are still the holder of a substantive visa, they can lodge an onshore application (if they meet the criteria for that visa).

If however, they are on a bridging visa, they are blocked by Section 48 of the Migration Act from making an onshore application due to the visa refusal.

The other issue that needs to be considered is the reason for the 485 refusal, as this could impact other applications.

    Hi Raul,

Thanks for your reply. he has been on bridging visa a. His application for 485 was rejected due to not meeting English language requirements at the time application. He will meet RSMS criteria now. but our doubt is can we lodge an offshore visa without going for MRT and still be onshore working for the employer?

    Please reply.

    Thank you.

  6. Hi All,

Please shed some light in below situation:

My friend has his 485 visa application refused. He's got an employer to sponsor (187) him. He got only 28 days to depart, or 21 days to apply for MRT. One of the MA says we can lodge offshore RSMS application without going for MRT.

    Please advise if it's true.

    Thank you in advance.

  7. Hello all,

I was granted a PR visa in March 2014. I got married while waiting for my visa decision, so could not include my wife in my application.

As soon as I arrived we lodged 309/100 in April. I know it will take a while to be granted. We have our wedding anniversary in November. So I applied for family sponsored visitor visa, which has been rejected. As I am not reasonably settled as PR.

I am looking at applying for visitor visa, not family sponsored again.

i am desperate about your valuable suggestions.

    thanks a lot in advance.

  8. hi PR ASPIRANT..

why have you not directly lodged a 309 visa instead of that visitor visa?

    thank you.

    Hi CPAivy,

I already applied for 309/100 3 months ago. We have our wedding anniversary in November, so applied for family sponsored visitor visa. But it's been rejected as I am not reasonably settled in Australia. In their terms sponsor has to be here as PR for 2 years to be able to sponsor someone.

  9. Hello guys,

i have applied for family sponsored visitor visa for my wife recently. They refused it on the grounds that as sponsor I am not eligible since it's not been 2 years as a PR. I am looking at applying for visitor visa. Any suggestions?

also, being refused for a visa, will it have any impact on visitor visa we will lodge or even 309/100 lodged in April this year?

    any suggestions very much appreciated.

    thank you.

  10. Hi All,

I am currently on 187 visa in victoria. I am looking at sponsoring my brother and have come across 489 visa. I have few questions regarding this, I would appreciate your response.

    1) As 187 visa holder will I be eligible to sponsor my brother?

    2) My brother's occupation is on CSOL, however not on Victoria state occupation list, will he still be able to apply provided he gets his skills assessment done?

    Thank you in advance.

  11. Hi Philip,

Thank you so much for the reply.

    Hello,

You will need to enter Australia to activate the 187 visa before you can sponsor your wife (if you weren't in Australia for grant). Your wife should have done medicals and police clearances for your visa so provided that you have evidence of the relationship it should just be a straight-forward Partner visa case.

All the best to you both.

    Warm regards,

    Philip

  12. Hi there, I have been granted 187 visa recently. While waiting for the decision I got married, and I notified this change to immigration. Now i am in my home country and want to apply visa for my wife before I go over to Oz. Can anyone shed some light on possibility and hurdles associated with it?

  13. Hi Blossom, Just a quick question. I have been granted a 187 visa recently. I am still in my home country. while waiting for my visa decision, i got married and I let the department know of it. Now i want to apply partner visa for my wife too. my question is "can I apply before I validate my visa"? I mean I want to apply before I go to Oz.

No. The things which make the difference to timings is the country you come from. If you are from a high risk country they have to wait for checks to come back from that country. Some countries can take many months to get back to them.
  14. hi there, I have been granted 187 PR visa recently. While I had been waiting offshore i got married, so was not able to include my wife in my application. However i notified department of change in my marital status. Now i want to apply visa for my wife too, presuming 309-100 is the right path. My question is, can I apply visa for my wife even though I haven't gone to Oz yet. my idea is to apply visa for her before I fly. any suggestions from experts please.

  15. Congrats, will u share your occupation and processing center please? I applied through Melbourne center in june 2013 and still waiting :(

    Hi guys

Finally got my PR today!!!! yeah...

    FYI, here is my timeline..

    24 June 2013 - RCB Application

    25 July 2013 - RCB Approved

21 August 2013 - Visa and Nomination application (through MA, DRC, High risk country)

22 January 2014 - PR Granted (MA told me that the visa and nomination approved together, no sign of CO allocate)

I will update my processing centre when I receive my letter from MA.

    Thanks

  16. As far as I know skills assessment is not required for applicants that have Australian qualifications relevant to the nominating occupation/position. if your nomination occupation is not relevant to your qualifications, but have sufficient experience then you might need skills assessment and/or you have overseas qualifications relevant to nominating occupation which you will claim for your nomination.

Thanks for your replies guys :)

I'm still none the wiser about whether a skills test is required, but I will continue to hunt for the answer!

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

  17. Hi Carnie97442, I am outside Australia, i can see that the number available on website is for callers from in Australia. So probably i can't make a phone call to them. I just have to followup with my MA.

    Hi PRAspirant,

I don't know any other number but you should try the one on their website and see what happen. There are a lot of people who talk about similar situation on the forum and then their agent just gave a call to the immigration which have defreeze the situation. I believe that you are paying enough money to your agent and it is a legitimate request to ask for a follow-up call. After all it has been 26 weeks which is I believe is a really long time for a DRC application.

On the letter of acknowledgment it says that it will be 5 to 6 months for the processing time. Yes it is an estimate but apparently DRC application should go faster than that. You shouldn't worry to much but make sure you follow up with them. Last year I believe some applications were lodged DRC and weren't registered as. I hope this is not what happen to you application. Good luck.
