  1. Am still in the process of putting a business model together but am certainly looking at making it a coffee shop with a difference so to speak. Got a few ideas whirling around though. Any ideas as to how to go about getting support in setting up. Like bank start up loans etc? Also does the type of visa we hold have any effects on startingba businesd
  2. Hi all Was just looking for any advice anyone can give me. I am currently working as a pub manager and am thinking that if our application is successful about opening a coffee shop. Would it be better for me to get barista training in the UK or to just start afresh once in oz? Likewise any food hygiene courses etc. Would my personal alcohol licence be able to transfer to oz? Any help on start up costs and business loans also. Look forward to any kind of help. Cheers Andy
  3. Me and the family are desperate to get to Australia. We have just received a bit of bad news in the process in that since my wife's vet assess has come back successfully her job (marketing) has come off all state lists! I'm just wondering whether there is anyway my job can provide a way in. I'm not skilled in the sense of being an electrician or plumber. However, I have a wealth of experience in the pub management trade. I also do a lot in the way of promotion and events. I'm very much involved in the real ale scene organising beer festivals and tasting nights etc. and have received awards to recognise this. I appreciate it's probably a long shot but as I say we're just so desperate to get there that any avenues must be explored. Andy
  4. Hi all Have posted on here recently. Am 37 years old and a pub manager. My family is looking to emigrate on an ACT190 visa through my wife's job and skills. I want to retrain for a role which means I'm working mostly during the daytime, therefore more family time. I am looking to take a forklift course as soon as I get there as they are quick to obtain and the earnings aren't bad. Long term I would like to retrain as a plumber or electrician. Just wondering whether anyone could give any advice as to length, costs of training as obviously I'm not getting any younger! Cheers
  5. Hi ACT 190 visa. Have been doing a bit more delving into this and it appears the timescale to qualify would be similar to in GB. It's something i'd be really keen on doing but I'm doubtful it would be realistic going on unpaid work placements etc. Forklift licence as a stopgap seems to be the way to go I think. May look at plumbing too. Cheers
  6. Hi all i'm a 37 year old pub manager in the early stages of applying for emigration based on my wife's skills. I currently work most of my hours of a night and obviously don't want to continue doing so permanently in Australia. I am very keen on retraining as an electrician once in Australia. Have done a little looking into it and it seems very confusing and would welcome any advice. Have also been looking at maybe a forklift licence as a short term career change which pays ok and means I spend more time with the family Any advice welcome
