It doesn't sound good, TBH.   The decision will hinge on whether you have "strong ties with Australia of benefit to the country" (or words to that effect).  Do you have close family in Oz?  A job offer?  Any other ties with the country?

If you can't demonstrate those strong ties, then they won't even consider your reasons for not meeting the deadline, no matter how compelling they were.   While the borders were closed they were making exceptions, but they've been open a long time, so I doubt that's the case now (unless some of our resident agents know different).

At a minimum between my wife and I we would be able to have one job offer (healthcare and IT) when the time comes. which hopefully would be sufficient. No other family ties to any Australian citizens.

  2. Just wondering what the outcome was for you Cantabrigian? I’m looking at similar circumstances for a RRV as my 5yr PR 189 expired during COVID lockdown in 2020 after only managing a visa activation trip in 2015, and I’m only now able to open up story again…

    Thanks

  3. A little late but I looked at this in early 2017 as I am in this situation but have not submitted an application as yet.

The forms you need are the 40CH and 47CH for an offshore application. You will also need a medical for the child and to pay the visa fee (I forget, but I think it was over £1,000 at the time). In the UK, I think you need to apply to the AUS embassy in London for this Visa.

There is an onshore option too if you do not think your visa would be granted in time, obviously this would carry more risk. You also would need to leave Australia and return to activate the child's PR visa once it was approved.

  5. Hi I was hoping someone could help me.

I have been working freelance in London for the past 10 years.

I have my own Limited company and have an accountant who works out my tax.

I am moving to Brisbane in October and my plan was to close down my UK business and start one in Australia.

However, I have just had an offer from my current contract,

they want to keep me on in Australia working remotely!!

BUT he would like to employ me full-time on a Salary.

Looking into it I am a little worried I will have to pay Tax in UK and Australia if I am on salary.

    Has anyone had similar experiences?

    Thanks

Would you mind sharing how this worked out for you in the end?

    Thanks

  6. I called up the GSM processing centre at 03:30am today, it took 52mins to be answered

First I was told there were no updates, when I asked them for a bit more information I was told it had been assigned to Team 1, but there was no other information about whether it had been looked into by them yet.

  7. You must activate the visa within the timeframe detailed on the grant letter, normally within a year from the earlier of either the Medical or PCC.

If you are in Australia and your visa is nearing expiry, you will either need to gain citizenship, apply for a Resident Return Visa or leave the country.

PS. Congratulations on your visa grant!

I don't think you need to leave after the PR expires? You only need a RRV if you want to leave Australia then return (holiday for example) once your PR has expired.

In your example of 4 years before settling it's likely you might need a RRV as it would be another 3 years or so before you could apply for citizenship after your original visa expires.

  8. As I hadn't heard anything yet, I got impatient and called the GSM Processing Centre (number on the footer of the initial acknowledgement letter) for an update on Sunday night... After waiting in the call queue for 30mins I got through to be told "There are no updates, not assigned to a CO yet and can take unto 3 months etc..."

I applied 5th May and completed the Meds & PCC in June, so guess I just need to hurry up and wait.

  9. Hi All,

Great thread, has some really useful information.

I'm looking to emigrate to QLD in 12-18months, and due to baby number 2 on the way I am looking for a 4x4 or SUV for my wife to drive until we move then ship it over to sell. Ideal budget up to £20k.

I have looked at Range Rovers, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7's and the like. Does anyone have other suggestions? Based on experience, what is the ideal car to go for in the premium 4x4 market to ship then sell in Australia?

    Thanks!
