  1. I'm currently interviewing for a new position with a new employer. If I get offered/accept then when would you recommend I hand in my notice? The reason I ask is that I don't want my current employer to be notified that my visa has been transferred (and they are no longer my nominated sponsor). I obviously want to let them know I'm leaving before Dept of Immi do. However a couple of friends recently changed jobs (both on 457's) and they look almost two months to transfer. So I don't want to hand in my notice early and be left with no income for potentially a long time. I know that the Dept. Of Immi has a 'expected' time line on their website but this is by no means accurate. Any information would be greatly appreciated
  2. Hi, thanks for that. But again I'm getting totally conflicting answers. Is the Australian Dept for Immigration really that confusing- with seemingly so many 'grey' areas? This is the info I've found that is the same as Blossom put: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Product+Lookup/1220.0~First+Edition,+Revision+1~Chapter~UNIT+GROUP+2231+Human+Resource+Professionals When did you/your employer apply for your 457? and what other evidence was required? Any help is much appreciated, as i'm starting to get really concerned.
  3. Yes I do have a sponsor lined-up and it was the MD of the business that flagged it up to me. However everyone prior to him has assured me I'd have no problem, and that my Diploma of Higher Education would count towards my eligibility.
  4. A Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) is a higher education qualification given in the UK. It is awarded after two years of full-time study at a university.
  5. Hi guys. I need some clarity on whether my experience and qualification is enough to be granted a 457 visa? I have spoken with a number of recruiters and they have asked their so-called 'visa experts' but the answers differs everytime. I'm a recruitment consultant, which is listed under schedule 2 on the consolidated sponsored occupations list (ANZSCO code: 223112). I have 4 1/2 years continual experience and a diploma of higher education, as I did not complete my degree. Would the combination of experience and qualification i've detailed be sufficient to be eligible for a 457? Many thanks, Katie
  6. Upon my arrival in Sydney i'll be conducting final stage interviews and accepting an offer. It's just to safe-guard myself against accepting a job without having met the team and seen the office etc. So the only way I can travel to Oz is by using a tourist visa. Within the first week of arrival I should have accepted a job, and the 457 application will commence. Then it will be a case of keeping everything crossed that it doesn't take more than 3 months to come through
  7. Thanks, i hadn't thought of this option. I will look into a reundable ticket, as that could be an ideal solution.
  8. Do you think it would be reasonable to say that I am going to be travelling around Australia but haven't firmed-up my plans yet as to exactly when I will be leaving? But I can show them my bank statement which will show that I have enough money to book my departing flight. I'm certain that not everyone arrives with a return ticket, as plans can change and when travelling you don't always know your next destination.
  9. Hi AJ, no it would be the other way round. I'd be lodging an application for a 457 (well my future employer would be) whilst I was in Oz on my tourist/visitor visa.
  10. I'll be arriving in Australia on a 600 visitor visa, but as mentioned in another post I'm hoping to get a 457 visa granted upon arrival. I wanted to know if I may be asked to show proof of a return flight if questioned at the airport? I'd have no problem showing a copy of my bank statement (hence proving I have sufficient funds), but I really don't want to have to pay for a return flight when I won't be using it. I've checked on the immigration website but I can't seem to find the answer.
  11. Yes it is. I work in recruitment and I'm already going through interview processes but when I raised this question no one seemed to have the answer.
  12. Thanks Blossom for your response, yes I had been told that of course I should appear to strictly be there as a tourist only. But if I did secure a job, and my 457 visa was being processed- can I simply change over? And without leaving the country?
  13. Hi everyone, I'm due to be booking my flights tomorrow but suddenly I've hit a potential hurdle. Does anyone know if I arrive on a tourist visa, can I then change to a 457 visa whilst in Australia? I didn't think this would be an issue, as I was going originally to secure a job before I left (hence already have the 457). However I now want to conduct final stage interviews once I arrive in Oz, so that I can meet the teams and see the offices etc. I have previously worked/travelled around Oz, so I have already used my WHV. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I was wanting to know if you get sponsored by a company on the 457 visa, do you have to remain with that company for the duration of the four years? As I'm a little worried about interviewing with a company via Skype whilst still in the UK, accepting a job and then not liking the company etc. Has anyone else experienced a similar dilemma? Can you move jobs whilst on a 457 visa (then get sponsored by the new employer)? I've previously lived & travelled all over Australia, so have no worries about any other factor involved in this move. It's just a huge risk not being able to meet prospective employers/colleagues and visit the office, knowing you're tied to them for four years. I appreciate I could fly out to interview, but the expense is too much to consider. Thanks!! Katie
