  1. Well guys my situation is even more complicated! I must sit an English test, as my degree is from Italy. This is despite I have a UK Pgce, 18 years in the UK and 2 of those teaching in UK secondary schools. Absolutely ridiculous, now I have to shell more money. To teach in private schools I must do the Ielts and then later the Peat if I wish to teach in Nsw government schools. It's going to cost nearly $900 hoping I pass first time, as they make them quite difficult for foreigner teachers. Arghhhhhh

Good luck with all this! It sometimes seems like a lot of red tape especially when visas have been granted. My forms are all in now and yep, it's non practising for thos eof us who haven't taught in Oz or NZ. Good luck everyone!

  2. I really don't get these assessing authorities.

As long as you got the qualification for a PGCE with the transcript and the end of the course showing all your units and credits, your name, the academic year, what is the problem?

Really, TRBWA last year registered people from overseas within a month's time. Are they getting pickier?

Are you going for non-practising registration or provisional? I went for non practising as it was my gap year travelling, and none of all these details were specifically required.

I find AITSL is usually more stringent than the Registration boards. They had me translating every single certificate/transcript from my French Baccalaureat onwards (more than 10 pages!) for the sake of checking that I ACTUALLY completed a proper MA degree.

Money well invested, I hope... CO will tell soon!

I don't get it either because they have said they're not really fussed but won't process my application any further at the minute and that's just the qualifications check. They will take more money of me and let me apply for non practicing because that's all I am eligible for at the minute. I understand AITSL being picky because their check is for migration purposes but I thought that would be it for checking. Still, I'll do what I have to. Onwards!

  3. WA have said the transcript I provided for AITSL isn't good enough and lacking details. It's costing me another $500 and all that is really missing is a few details like my student number. They've said that a signed letter from the uni saying that what I have is all they give out will be enough to carry on my application which is all very frustrating. I actually want to go remote too and they're crying out for people to do it. It's all a bit frustrating as casual work seems to be hard to come by at the minute. Chin up though!

  4. Has anyone else on here been frustrated when trying to register to teach? I have a PR visa and AITSL certificate and now WA have decided that my PGCE transcript is not good enough so I need to contact my university for another even though the first one was good enough. I am desperate to start work and am finding casual labouring jobs or anything else hard to come by in Perth. Any thoughts anyone especially in regards to where I can get some work to tide me over?

    All the best,

    Chall.

  5. What state has your occupation on their skills list and do you need a job offer? I'm a teacher. I had no job offer but have come over on a 190 visa as a skilled independent. Good luck with it all bud.

  6. The Teaching Registration Boards have nothing to do with AITSL.

You will need to provide all of your academic transcripts, supervised teaching days and visa status. It can take a few weeks, but as you already have your documents from AITSL, that will help speed it up.

You will also need to pay a fee to register and you will most likely apply for limited registration as you will not meet the Professional Standards requirement yet.

Thanks Sammy. This si the form I found under the 'overseas teachers' section: http://www.trb.wa.gov.au/SiteCollectionDocuments/Form-Request-for-Qualification-Advice.pdf

Any ideas or can I just got for provisional registration?

  7. Hi guys,

I'm moving to WA in 4 weeks and need to get registered with TRBWA and wondered if anyone can help me with the process please? Do I need to I need to apply via the 'Request for Qualification Advice' form because I was thinking that my AITSL pass certificate would have been enough. It seems daft that I have to be assessed all over again!

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  8. Has anyone used a Movecube and paid the premium insurance? I just can't see it's worth it because they talk about the 'self packed' nature of them so to my thinking they would blame me if anything was smashed up and say I hadn't packed things correctly.

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on this I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Chall.

  9. Thanks Chall ! hope it all goes well on Thursday ........I`m well up for trips out pal , ..........when you`re sorted give me a shout , need any help give me a shout ......

WA, from The Fitzroy River in the north to Eucla in the far SE, is very poor for freshwater fishing. There are a couple of streams in the Warren area (Pemberton, Tone River) that hold trout and a few places that hold redfin (Perca fluviatis). The Swan River has some goodly bream and flathead but that's about all.

Beach fishing can be ok, but check with the locals before you try; just to make sure you get a decent 'grounding'

Have a squiz at this forum for more info.

  11. Chall your welcome .....will you take me out fishing , im a novice , though I do go on the blokes fishing trips ......I`ve just knocked back a few days in Malaysia fishing for big throwback fish as I have too many hospital appointments at the end of August .....

Tonyman, I'd love to meet you up mate. I've seen you on here and you're always a voice of reason!!! I've washed everything down with disinfectant and the movecube is coming Thursday so here we go! It's summer here so everything is super aired and dry. All I have do now is fill the forms in and get ready to 'squeeze' things in! SO EXCITED!!!!!

  12. Once again the PIO community prove to be worth their weight in gold. Thanks loads for the help and advice. I'll give her a good clean and might head down the launderette. Some of the guys on here have restored my faith in internet forums and made this migration experience so much easier (and cheaper!). MoveCube on Thursday and flying in 3 weeks. Excited doesn't even come close!!!

Take care guys and thanks again. BobJ, I'll fish for anything mate. I hear there can be good perch fisihng iin WA but I'm really looking forward to getting on the beaches too.

  13. I have seen and heard plenty about the rigours that things can be put under when shipping your stuff out to Oz but I have a good tent and want to bring it. I'm going to disinfect the bottom of it but is that enough? Has anyone got experience of this and if so, please drop me a line! I'm also looking to bring some fishing gear.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    All the best,

    Chall.

  14. I was awarded a 190 last year and will try to help if I can. I did my own application with some great help from people on here.

I don't think that there is any gaurentee of a visa but I don't think you'd be invited after an offer from the state of your choosing.

You can sit on you visa for five years after validating it which requires a trip to Aus to activate the visa.

With a 190 you will need to sort jobs yourself.

Otherwise, start your EOI and go for it I guess?

I'm no expert but hope this helps.

  15. Hi

I need advice please. I am currently a Principal at an elementary school in Canada. I am a Canadian citizen but was born and studied in South Africa. (We immigrated to Canada 5 years ago, but it has been a nightmare - minus 52 degrees C is not fun if you come from Africa...)

My family and I would like to immigrate to WA. The only way that I will have enough points is if I apply for State nomination. Can anyone tell me how long this process takes. I have not yet registered with the WA College of Teachers. Should I do that first? Will I be able to apply for State nomination without a job? If not, how difficult is it to get a job if I live in Canada? I am doing my IELTS in July, my previous one has expired. I do know that I do not need that for immigration, as I am a Canadian citizen, I will however need it to register as a teacher.

We are keen to move to Bunbury (my son is one of Canada's top 10 swimmers in his age group, and I know they have an excellent swimming program)

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Kind regards,

I've only just seen this but I would say that from the time you make your EOI and have qualifications checked (which can take 4 months), you're looking at another 6 months. Good luck with everything!
