  1. Yes we are now settled in our new house!! We had a big fight with landlord on Friday night, I didn't leave them wondering!! They did however say they had every right to enter without our permission (I knew they would say that) they then later changed story and denied being in. It all got a bit crazy when they threatened to (drunk) move their car into the drive to block us in!!! Thankfully my partner is calm and he managed to calm everyone down, they left us to it and we left at 7am on sat morning! She has since text wishing us well and saying maybe meet for coffee when the dust settles......haha!! That will be right!! anyway, moving forward we are so happy in our new home and I won't look back or hold this awful experience against future landlords! Thanks for all your advice, I am not sure I will pursue it any further, just want to put it behind us helen x
  2. We get keys to new place tomorrow, ute is packed tonight with most stuff we own, the rest will move Saturday in one go. We've already redirected the mail as I know she'll ask for forwarding address!! Will keep you posted over weekend!! Thanks all xx
  3. Lol burwood!!! She advertises as short term holiday let on gumtree!
  4. Its creepy, the whole thing makes us feel so violated! She has told us stories about locking previous tenants outin the street, we should have known then!! There's so much more to this story too, she's a full scale pyscho!! Roll on Saturday....freedom! X
  5. Thanks everyone! We move on Saturday and it can't come quick enough!!! I really want to confront her but partner is not wanting to make a scene!! Might looking into reporting her, I just really don't want her getting away with this!! It makes me so angry!!
  6. I have been in Melbourne since early December with my partner. We found a short term rental on gumtree while still in the UK, it was only intended to be for a few weeks. We liked the place and asked if we could stay longer, we paid no bond and have no rental agreement. recently we suspected the landlord was entering the unit when we were at work (things had moved, doors closed when we left them open etc) we downloaded an iPad app and it confirms that the landlord and husband are in most days!!! It records videos of what it sees so we now have actual proof. We are using this as security device so they can't say a thing about us recording them (they shouldn't be in!!!) today was the worst, she was in our bedroom touching things and (we think) reading paperwork but we could not quite see from the angle. We have never suspected they'd touch things or read anything of ours, we just thought they were being nosey!!! Now we have found a new place and she's not happy we're not giving a months notice (remember we have no tenancy agreement) she's moved our belongings today and taken handle off spare room so we can't get in(we can still get in but turns out she's pushed the bed up against the door therefore must have climbed out the window!!) i hope you've got the idea, she's pretty crazy!!! I just don't know my rights because I have no rental agreement. I am fairly certain she still can't just waltz in and touch my things!! any advice greatly appreciated!!!
  7. I'm in same position, Been here 4 weeks and lost count of number of jobs applied for. It is time consuming replying to the key selection criteria for each job but worth it I hope! I have also met with an agency in the city, it went well and they set my expectations that I wouldn't find work til new year. Partner started his job a week after we arrived, it's tough watching them get into a routine and become settled isn't it?! Best of luck to you, look forward to your updates! Helen
  8. Hey, thanks very much it's great to know so many people are so kind! I do drive but no car yet ( not sure I'd brave the roads yet anyway, always a nervous driver!) I am sure I could catch train though
  9. Brill, thanks so much I feel better already!
  10. Im in burwood. That sounds great, just having someone to talk to is what I've been needing I think!
  11. Yes I'm on lifeinvictoria too, I'll keep an eye out for meet ups. I'd actually started a thread asking if anyone near me fancied meeting up. Turns out OH not so keen on that so soon, however I feel like I'd benefit from meeting others who feel/have felt what I'm feeling just now...and also someone to have some fun with! Jeez I'm making it sound like I don't even have fun with OH, you know what I mean though, hard living in each others pockets all the time. We had a great balance in UK where we saw lots of friends separately then had our time too. I'd like that again, but as you say it's gonna take time. This is helping though, just chatting and realising I'm normal!!
  12. We just saved like mad, sold things, car boot sales, it's amazing how much we saved when we really put our minds to it!! We were also lucky to have some help from family!
  13. Thank you. I sometimes find it hard talking to OH, he isn't the best 'communicator' in the world which is prob why I'm pouring my feelings out here! He would listen to me, don't get me wrong, but he seems to be settling well and I am worried i might disrupt that. I know that in a few months time I will look back and think 'what was all the fuss about'!! Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.......
  14. I've been in Melbourne now for nearly 4 weeks and today is the first day I could quite easily have just got on a plane home. I know it's hard at this time of year, I expected it would be but I'm feeling so sad and crying all the time! I've struggled to look happy on FaceTime today when talking to my parents. Don't want them to know I'm feeling sad as it will make them worry. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my time here so far and we've done loads of great things.. We're here on a 457 visa and m partner is the one being sponsored. I'm not working yet which I think isn't helping. I am missing friends so much and wonder if I'll ever make friends here. Maybe I'll feel more settled once I'm working, hope so. That's another worry in itself, finding a job! glad to get it off my chest! Try to not show OH that I'm homesick in case I drag him down too and make him miserable! thanks for listening to me! H x

    Facetime

I use FaceTime loads with my parents and some friends, then Skype with others. I prefer FaceTime, it does freeze sometimes but majority of the time it's great. I find I get best Internet connection for FaceTime out my back garden, always clear and never freezes out there
