  1. Hi Folks,

We received our Grant in Aug 2013. and Are planning to move by Mar 2014. I had some questions, hope you can answer.

    1. What do you forsee as the right amount of AUD required for 3 months for a family of 3 in ACT without a Job. (Myself, my mom(not dependent, coming on Visit Visa) and a kid (4 years). (If we live frugally.)

    2. I have been searching for accomodations, but nothing seems to be getting finalized. Could it be due to the fact that i am searching 3 months in advance (Moving Mar)?

    3. What would be right time to look for accomodations?

  2. Hi All, So from what i have gathered from above is the following:

-> Getting jobs, even part time or casual jobs, is difficult between Nov to Jan

-> move between jan to mar.

Any suggestions about making a move with a Kid and an independent Mom (who would be coming on a visit visa)? Would it be easy..difficult..manageable??

I plan on taking my mom along with me, as then she can be with my Kid while i go out to look for jobs!

  3. Hi Maggie

just reading through this sounds a bit scary! What happens if you do not get a job... Are you allowed to work in another state or does that have implications on your visa?

I am planning to move in Jan 2014 and reading about the job market is really getting me worried now.

    Hope you find something soon.....

I heard that the once you migrate, you need to contact the migration officers in ACT. They keep a check by contacting you periodically to know if you got a job relevant to the skill that you applied for when you lodged the 190 Visa. After a certain time period, if you dont get offers in ACT but are getting offers from other states like Melb or Syd, then they would ask you to try out the job market in other states.

i believe that their decision is dependent on your occupation and the time frame that you have been in ACT looking for the appropriate job.

Note: I am talking in terms of folks who have gone through the 190 PR Visa Route.

  4. Update.

I have been discussing Contributory Parent (subclass 143) and Aged Parent (subclass 804) visas with my colleague Sarah White today.

Sarah mentioned the Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864) as a pathway that is not used so often as the subclass 143 option.

She also said that processing times are less for the 864 than the 143, at typically 9 to 12 months, rather than 15 to 18 months.

As for the subclass 804 Aged Parent visa, you must be onshore to apply for a Contributory Aged Parent visa - and there are appeal rights available in the event of an adverse decision (eg if the settled sponsor issue is problematic).

    Best regards.

Thank you, this is good information as i was always that a CPV or Aged Parents Visa would take a long time. So as i understand, in order for my parents to get the Visa, i need to be in Australia. is there any time frame (regarding being onshore) before i apply for my parents. Can i apply a Visitor visa for my parents before i make my first entry to Australia?

  5. hi all, i had a question. [its probably already mentioned in the post before, but there are so many post. :) ]

I have applied for PR Visa to ACT. i have been assigned a CO and are in the last but one, final leg of this journey. the PR Visa was applied for My husband, myself and my kid. I want to take my mom with me too. She is not dependent on me, as my dad is working in a different country. Yes, she can stay with him however, i would like her to be with me until my dad can migrate to Aus too.

    Questions:

What are the options for taking my mom along with me when i make the move to Aus?

Would she perhaps be able to go with you on a visitor visa? Alternatively once you are permanent and living in Australia you could sponsor her for a long term visitor visa lasting 3 years of up to 12 months in any 18 month period.

Thanks, i believe that on a visitor visa, the duration is less, approx. 1 month?

Regarding the 2nd option, wouldnt i have to pay a bond to the goverment?

Thank you all for the information. I will check up on the links provided.
