  1. Hi Gayle yes it's all very confusing.

Firstly ANMAC are the ones who will do your skills assessment for the purpose of your visa. AHPRA are the equivalent of the NMC and are who you register with to work in Oz, that fact that you have a degree means that you shouldn't have to many problems with that, as the rules changed last year and if you don't have a degree it is near impossible to get a registration. there are a couple of ways you can go about things, 1. do your skills assessment with ANMAC and then apply for a full permanent residency visa. You can then apply for AHPRA after and start looking for a job once that has come through. Or 2. you could apply to AHPRA and get your registration in hand and then look for a job that will sponsor you. I was confused by it all so did the AHPRA Registration first got a job offer with 457 sponsorship and came over that way, I have now completed ANMAC and are going for permenant residency that way. You only need the ANMAC skills assessment for the permenant resi visa so if you can get 457 sponsored and get over here it is much easier and cheaper to organise at this end. IMO

hope that helps a little and I wish you good luck with it all.

    Hello everyone,

I posted this earlier in jobs and careers but no response, perhaps I posted in the wrong place so would be grateful for any input on this query:

I am looking for some advice please, or if any one can point me in the right direction of a post which outlines the required steps in order to get started ( I saw one but of course can't find it now) to apply for going to Oz to do MH nursing.

Here is a summary of my situation:

I am 32 - I have a degree in mental health nursing and have been qualified for 18 months. I currently work in Forensics, but have some addictions experience as well.

I think I am eligible for skilled migration, however find the migration website rather confusing.

I am aware that we need to register for our equivalent of our NMC, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC)from what I gather from their form I need to have a Visa in place though before I can apply - is this correct?

I keep reading that if you have secondary education you don't need to do the language test, but I am assuming people do to gain further points?

I am also aware of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) this is to have your skills validated - when should this part of the process be applied for?

My head is full of abbreviations and I'm getting a bit confused :wacko:however keen to start however unsure of correct order of process, so any advice is most appreciated. I have considered calling an immigration agency, however the costs seem a bit eye watering! Thanks for reading.

I think that you will need to get some post grad experience, not sure how it would work otherwise with registration, from AHPRA as you need a reference from and employer and if you go for skill assessment they need references, although i guess you could get references from mentors on placements, contact AHPRA direct and they should be able to answer your questions, and as they are the horses mouth so to speak what they say should be exactly what they will be looking for. Good Luck in this virtually minefield. xx

  3. Hi perthsunseeker.

I typed up a list of hours completed, mandatory and online, with dates a note that said what i gained from each session, so say i did an online blood transfusion training session, i put, From this session i gained updated knowledge of local and national updates in safe and effective blood tranfusion.

They accepted this for AHPRA, who are apparently slightly pickier than the NMBA.

    Good luck Tx

  4. Im having a similar thing with APHRA, they have requested another reference from my employer as the one i sent wasnt comprehensive enough, took me ages to pin my manager down for that one now i need more and im on a deadline over xmas. Also NMC stuff hasnt arrived yet so they are asking for that and they want more evidence of my CPD, all of this to be posted and recieved by the 16th jan, or they will scrap my application. has anyone else had this experience, what happens if the stuff doesnt arrive by the 16th. this is all so stressful. help:chatterbox:

  5. Well Ive done it. Fially managed to find a notary that didnt want the debt of a small country to notarise my docs, and now they are all sent off to the Perth office of APHRA. phew. i hope ive got it right after all the stress and running around.

Also if the NMC only provide a transcript of training and i have already included that from my uni (Certified), do i have to spend more money to get the NMC transcript sent???

  6. Hi i heard back from western australian european office and they said that you dont need to to have done an ielts if you have completed 5 consecutive years study in an english speaking country , such as UK. but my schooling and the exams i sat were back in 1980-85 i have a Deputy head teacher who is still at the school and remembers me writing me a letter, which includes my results as i never had any certificates, Will this be enough???? or should i just bite the bullet and go for the english test and have done with it.
