  1. Hi Paul We've only been on the Gold Coast for a year now and my husband actually has not been working as a plumber in that time as he only had a provisional license and he found most jobs on the Gold Coast were maintenance plumbing which you need a full license for. So instead he just took any job so he could get some money coming in whilst he did his year (2 nights a week) at Tafe. He has just finished that so we are in the process of applying for his full license but it now looks as though he needs to have 12 months QLD experience too - the council said to apply anyways and they will look at his UK experience but not guaranteed. With regards to commercial work (which is what my hubby did in the UK) I check the jobs daily and there is nothing really on the Gold Coast. They all come up in Brisbane which loads of people do the daily commute. Unfortunately our visa does not allow us to work in Brisbane for another year. BUT..... there should be lots of jobs hopefully coming up soon as the Commonwealth Games are here in 2018 so that should bring a lot of work. Also there is a new casino, major renovations of a shopping centre and lots more in the future. The problem is just waiting for them to start!! So I reckon things will pick up soon. I hope! And yes, I'm afraid you will need to enrol with Tafe if you want the full license - it seems like such a mission to start with but you just gotta accept it and get on with it I'm afraid, the year does go quickly! Good Luck!
  2. Please help! Is there anyone that has already got their full open plumbing license out there? My husband is a plumber and we have been here for a year. He has his provisional license (although not currently working as a plumber) and has been at Tafe for the past year 2 nights a week. When we enrolled he was told that he only needed to do a few extra units to get his full license which he has now done so. We have now emailed PIC to get the forms so we can apply for the full license and they have said that he needs to send in a full certificate IV. This is not what he was told previously. Can you please tell me how you went about getting the full license?
  3. Can anyone recommend any recruitment agencies for work on the Gold Coast. Hubby and I are making the move in May with no jobs and are hoping we can get our CV's out before we arrive in the hope to get jobs as soon as possible.

  5. It took us 10 weeks to get a Case Officer for family sponsor 489, but then once we got our case officer it only took 2 days for our visa's to be granted:)
  6. Hi all I am about to book my shipping with Robinsons but have one concern. When they quoted me they advised 562 cubic feet. I have a feeling when it comes down to it my stuff is going to be less than that as we are getting rid of a few things and most other companies quotes less cubic feet. I called to ask if we only pay once they have packed so they know the exact cubic feet. But with Robinsons we have to pay in full in advance and she said that they do measure it up once in their warehouse and if less they refund us and if more we need to pay the extra. Has anyone actually received a refund with them? I am worried that they will not say anything if it is less as how are we too know?
  7. Hi My partner is a plumber and needs to get his skills transferred over. We are busy collecting all his evidence (reference letters and qualifications) but one of his companies that he worked for just got back to us saying that they do not give out references. Does anyone know if there is something else we can use instead to prove he has been working as a plumber for the past 3 years? as he is self employed (sub contracts) somebody mentioned that we should get his accountant to write a letter. He does not have an accountant as we do his tax returns ourselves?
