My name is Andrew Wiggin and I am training to be an electrician. My girlfriend (soon to be wife) and I are very keen to eventually migrate to Australia and would like to know a little more to help us make better decisions in the present to enhance our chances.
I am almost qualified to JIB standard (half way through my NVQ) and intend to add testing and inspection to my qualifications at some point in the future. My girlfriend works in printing field and her job title is classed as an Account Manager/Project Manager. Give or take on the language section of the points test we qualify as I see it but not too sure.
As regards qualifications what is generally the accepted standard? and with regards to work experience what kind of employment matters?
For instance:
How does the route someone has taken to become a qualified electrician affect passing a skill assessment?
If it was done via vocational means (self funded college courses and learning on the job) as opposed to completing a JTL Apprenticeship?
Also, how does the employment status affect the passing of a skills assessment? Such as if someone had gathered all their experience in a self employed capacity or through a work training agency?
Any light shed on this matter would be of great help. This website will be of great use to us I'm sure, it's great to see so many people helping each other.
