  1. Hi Guys Currently am on 457 visa and applied for 856 on 27/6/12 - rec ACK letter on 17/8/12. Non DRC as wifey chest xray not done due to pregnancy. RMA confirmed the PR will not be granted till the baby born as my wife got to do chest x-ray prior to PR grant. I thought of utilize my 457 insurance cover as it covers 100% pregnancy and child birth. If I register myself with Medicare, I gotto take up a health cover so that I could use private healthcare. And there will be definitely out of pocket expenses. When i asked my current health insurance company the impact of changing from 457 to 856 they replied.... "your current insurer are a General insurer and the cover is only available to non residents on a 457 Visa. Once you have your permanent residency you would need to take out cover with an Australian private health fund and the current cover will be cancelled from the date you applied for the PR" "Once you have applied for your PR you will need to organise cover with a private health fund if you would like to have private health insurance as well as your Medicare cover that you will be entitled to. Legally the 457 cover must be cancelled form the date you applied for your PR" Which one you think I should do - 1. Go ahead with current 457 insurance and claim everything. 2. Register to medicare and get a health cover. Thanks
