  1. Do all shipping companies have a "Goods Examination Fee" also? I saw on Seven Seas that on top of your quote there is a Goods Examination fee of £55 and then to deliver boxes/ bags another £45 outside London .. so an additional £100 to the $215 I got quoted for my 2x suitcases. Apparently this additional charge is payable when it arrives and before you pick it up in UK?
  2. I asked AusPost and they know nothing about this

  4. Does anyone know of any good reliable shipping companies from Australia to UK ? I just have 2 or 3 x 20kg suitcases to bring back.. Has anyone use sendmybag.com.au or auspost? I heard things tend to get quite wet in sea mail. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the reply, had a look at the website but there's not much info. Couldn't find anywhere even saying about the 2 years term! So if I say didn't fulfil the 2 years and got a 12 or 3 month RRV, i'm guessing I need to be in Australia for that time in order to renew it again or am I free to go in and out again like before? Is there anything to stop you just continuously renewing the RRV or do you need to have a minimum amount of time at some point in the country otherwise they'll stop renewing it?
  6. Ok thanks guys. So just to clarify the process it would be: 1. Apply for 189 on/off shore 2. 189 allows me to travel anytime in/out of Australia but only lasts 5yrs 3. At the end of the 5yrs if I want to continue my PR I need to apply for a RRV? 4. In order to be eligible for the RRV I would need to have been in Australia for atleast 2years continuously whilst I had my 189 visa? Is that correct? Especially want to clarify point 4 as if I for some reason am not able to return after 3 years then it may be pointless having the visa as I will not be allowed to renew it if I haven't been here for 2 years? In that case would it be more beneficial for me to apply for 189 from the UK after the 3yrs or so? Thanks!
  7. Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if there are any terms attached to the 189 visa? I was thinking of applying for it but some people have said that I have to be in Australia for 6 months or 2 years out of the 5 years otherwise I will void my visa?? Would anyone be able to confirm this? I am planning to go back to the UK for 3 years to complete GP training, I started it a bit here but seems like the other way round would be more recognised! The plan would then be to return after. I've worked here as a doctor for 2.5 years already so have some money in QSuper also so I'm guessing if I get PR I would be able to keep it here with no problems? If not, I either have to take it out at 34% tax rate or it gets passed to the government and I have to claim it back from them somehow, is that correct? Would appreciate if anyone could help clarify on these! Thanks so much
  8. thanks so much for all your advice, that holiday village sounds great, reasonably priced as well. does the public transport run late? and also does anyone know which bank is best to use around this area.. do they still charge you to use ATMs? my debit card is with santander. Thanks!
  9. Thanks so much for the info. Yes I think I'm relying on public transport at least for the beginning. Not really sure about getting a car, still trying to sell my one in UK! I am Chinese Malaysian so Asian might be good for me! That house looks amazing, wouldn't mind sharing that! Shame the rest is industrial. Bamboozled, did you use any websites to find accommodation round there? I always thought Aussies were the open type and Brits the reserved type! Is there anywhere cheap and temporary motel kind of thing near the hospital I could stay for first few weeks? Somewhere cheaper than the comfort inn i keep getting reccommended, it's v expensive! Also is it easy commuting to CBD on public transport and how long does it tend to take? I wonder if this would be a better option than living in CBD. Thanks!
  10. Hi does anyone know anything about cooper plains and if it's a good area to live in or if there's anywhere else that's a bit nicer? I'm working in QE2 hospital there also doing shift work. Would like somewhere near CBD for restaurants cafes etc, however not sure if this will work with night shifts and weird times as I guess public transport would be difficult? Thanks

  12. Sorry I realise there are several threads regarding this subject however I am confused reading through them. I am only going for a year and will only need it until I can enrol in Medicare - so maybe about 2 weeks. I thought about multi-trip annual cover for trips going back to the UK but it seems you would need a return ticket in order to have this? Is that correct? My first ticket will obviously be a single ticket but if I return to the UK for a trip that would be a return ticket. The other thing is that most of the threads, a lot of people are looking for one way emigration insurance. Is there a reason I can't just get bog standard insurance using moneysupermarket comparison sites?? I didn't think you needed a return date as like one of the policies states "Cover ends when you return to your home address in the United Kingdom (but not later than 24 hours after your return to the United Kingdom) or at the end of the period of cover as shown on your policy schedule, whichever is earlier", so my policy should just end on the date I put down, I don't necessarily need to return for it to be valid?? Are people just using the emigration thing as they are giving up citizenship or something? Thanks
