  1. Thanks Del, that does reassure me a bit. Looks like you're right, I'd have to go for a 190 state sponsored visa... how do I get sponsored by a state? Does that mean I have to be employed by a company in a specific state? Sorry for my ignorance.

Every state has their own SMP -State migration plan

IF your occupation is listed, then go can go ahead and apply.

    I checked SA's SMP https://www.migration.sa.gov.au/snol%20data

look to the right on the page where it says occupation list and click on the list for 2012-2013 (this list will be updated later maybe in July 2013).

your occupation is listed as off-list

Maybe wait till July for the updated SMP for SA in July 2013. It is FREE to apply to SA.

If you haven't already done so, check the authorizing body that will carry out your skills assessment which will be needed BEFORE you apply to any state.

  2. okay, so I have finally been invited to apply for 190 (NSW), my question is regarding the medical. Do I also have a 60 day time limit to complete my medicals? or can i complete my medicals anytime after lodging the visa online?

  3. Thats a pretty rude reply! If we all googled, what would be the point of this forum????

lol it was a very EASY question that could have taken the OP literally one minute of his/her life to type the question into GOOGLE :)

it's not just the forum that has answers, google has answers too!

  4. did you get a skills assessment done as well? if you did, you can upload the skills assessment results letter and your IELTS result and wait ti be invited. Not sure when the next round will be for April.

  5. what occupation are you being assessed for? back in September last year it took me 4 weeks to get the approval, but as of today I think it's around 12 weeks (could be wrong)

  6. So my original question was whether or not I can just add some independent uni courses, or is it only full uni degree's that they look at when assessing?

    according to the ACS criteria

    http://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/7324/Summary-of-Criteria.pdf

only a degree/diploma/masters/or a doctors degree are assessed....however, you said you have no IT work experience??

p.s if you get your MCITP or MCSE this is comparable to AQF diploma with an ICT major

  7. Hi All,

Having been a bit active on here for a while (and made reference to my intended 2x year stint in Texas) I thought I'd give people a bit of a view regards life on the ground there as I have just come back from another 3x week reccie and, well, this kind of info interests me so may interest someone else!

    Cost of living;

Geez, what can I say - been in Aussie 7 years..... It's like being let loose in the real world again!!!! You can rock into a bar and actually have a drink and a feed for less than $10 bucks, remember that old concept of happy hour? wwwohhhoooo

    Some examples

    Average pint - $5 bucks (that's a pint, not a F*cking pot, or a f*cking schooner or any other shi*e)

Happy hour - $1 a pint for domestic

3x bed 2x bath with land and near public transit in Denton / Plano, TX - $180,000 ($800 bucks a month mrtg)

2006 Chevy pickup (for my motorbikes) - $7000 (you can get 4cyl ones now, better mileage)

Petrol - $3.80 a gallon (gone up alot since last time I was there, still OK though)

Car Insurance (at above location) - $350 a year

Meal in a middle of the road place - $15 a main (max), $4 a drink

    Meal in a tex mex joint - $8 a burritto, $3.50 a beer

    Jobs

Yep, lots and lots of em. Same salary as mine in Aussie. 4x weeks holiday for all the people I talked too. Literally 50% better off. Same take home as Aussie in Texas, anyway.... (including the dreaded medical insurance)

    Lifestyle

Road rage? A little but NOWHERE near Sydney / Melbourne and there's a good reason, have a look at the recent extension of the 'castle law' in TX - yep, most people have shooters in the glovebox. Kinda makes people think twice about being an idiot on the road from what I saw.

    People

Fantastic - simple as that. Believe me or not but I have never chatted to as many nice people - esp if you go armed with an understanding of the country, it's history and the constitution. Make reference to that as a tourist and you are literally invited to become a citizen by people!!! hahahah

Needless to say, I loved the place...... (again)

LOL funny post. Where in Texas are you?

  8. Thank you dude :-)

so you mean after submitting EOI we need to wait 4 weeks to get the update whether NSW provided the sponsorship or not?

what was your points when you submitted the documentation? I heard the approval depends on the points also.

if you already have a positive skills assessments, submit your EOI, then apply to NSW. Would won't hear back from NSW for at least 12 weeks after you submit your docs to them. Approval is another 4 or so weeks after you get your ack email with your file number in it.
