  1. Oh behave lol I've already told him people are saying this stuff. Even my mates back home are saying stuff! Bunch of kids  Sometimes 3 or 4 people stay in these bCkpacker vans, does that mean they have a orgy haha

Ive noticed its only guys saying this Quokka, and we know how they think right?Just ignore them. One track minds and all that.Im sure the guy you'll be travelling with is a decent, respectful person.Im really excited for you and Im sure it will all be fine.

  2. Hmmm!Having aussie kids, and brought them up in Oz until they were nearly teens, and then relocated to the UK a few years ago,I think I have a balanced viewpoint of restrictions.Going on holiday from the UK to somewhere hot for 2 weeks is a different story, than living somewhere hot.We lived in Sth Aust.I can say categorically that we were just as restricted there as what you might be in the UK weather wise.Days stuck inside during winter with the wood burner on 24/7 to being stuck inside during summer, too hot to do anything really, curtains and blinds drawn, just like winter.Might be different in Qld though.Even on milder days of 20c+I would be telling the girls to stay in the shade, sunblock on etc.I have two siblings both had skin cancer and were and are not sun worshippers. One's had SC twice, the other 5 times! This is just them heading out to hang washing outside, going from the house to the car etc not sunbathing,so you need to be very careful.

Our lives did not change when we moved to the UK being outside wise.We weren't beachy type people in Oz and neither in the UK so I guess it depends what type of family you are.

I think I would if I were you, rent your house out if you decide to go.Also factor in the working hours.Finishing at 5pm?Is that a dead cert or will you be expected to work later if appts are running late?Getting home right now when its your kids bedtime is only a temp thing, obviously the older they get,the later they'll be staying up.

  3. I think I'm beating you! We are flying out tomorrow, leaving home about lunch time today - only for a month though! Bon voyage when it comes!!!

Yes Quoll you are!I leave on Mon?Holy Crap its come around fast!Yikes!lol Safe journey Quoll and it will be love for you to catch up with your other son,and his family.xoxox

  4. No argument needed Ausborn.Im returning to Australia a week Mon to live.I've got no "agenda"in my posts.Just surprised you're finding things expensive.I was in Sainsburys this morning, and happened to be in the toiletry isle, shaving cream (male and females £2 per can),Superdrug had Lynx sets (shower gel and deo spray for £2.50).Starbucks is well known to be expensive. You pay more for the brand name.

  5. I would definitely try Brisbane. Building trade is healthy.

I'm in uk at the moment. Can't believe the price of things to be honest . I was last here in 2012 . With the current exchange rate , the UK seems a lot more expensive now than Brisbane.. I'm seeing things here now(with the exchange rate) the same price in pounds as I would pay in dollars for certain everyday living items like deodorant, shaving cream to name a few.. Price of housing here has just got out of control. Tbh I was in shock the first few weeks back here by prices.Talking to my family and friends in building trade here, they think by next year it will be back to how it was in 2010-2011(I am in Suffolk though). i would tread carefully, maybe come back for a visit before committing to moving back full time. This ain't a uk vs Aus post either. I love both countries and at home in each.

I also love both countries and been in both this year.Deodorant? Are you having a laugh?Where do you shop for deo? Most places I buy deodorant from (supermarkets,Superdrug,Boots etc you can buy roll on (I don't use sprays)for anything from 80p upwards.

  6. When I was 20,settling down with someone was the furthest thing from my mind.No doubt your gf's mates will be encouraging her to come home because they miss her,and also might harbour feelings of jealousy!I guess though your gf needs to ask herself this? Will these mates still be around in years to come when they're all married, got kids etc?

I think I would just let her go.You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, with your job, future plans etc.I doubt you'd have much trouble finding someone else if that's what you chose to do.Best wishes and good luck for a happy bright future.

  7. A great thread worth revisiting again to hear all new exciting things that folk have discovered to do in Oz making for exciting weekends.

Been here 6 years and we are now masters of the routine one has to adapt here to survive, it would be a shock to the system if we did find something exciting to do next weekend.

Initially my OH was very positive telling everyone how much there was to do here, that last for about the first year but is no longer her view

Certainly getting a lot more sleep here than I did back in the UK

  8. For all you people bored on a Saturday night (particularly in Queensland) may I suggest doing what I do and sleeping your way through it? I find a lazy boy and a cheap blanket combined with Aussie telly just the thing to get my zzzzz's in and can be found slumped in front of the box most nights from about 7pm. Your liver will thank you for it, and you're only missing the meat raffle and being chatted up by some toothless 70 year old redneck at the local Pokies.... This also gives you the advantage of being able to get up at 4 a.m. for your jog so you can appreciate everything Australia has to offer while the sun's not too hot

:laugh:Oh Chortlepuss, you did make me laugh!hahahaha Yeah last time I was in Adelaide (this year)my twin and I were sat in her local. An old guy kept hovvering around us,obviously sussing us out?As if??He looked around 70+,and I nearly asked him what rest home he was from?I might have to get a t shirt printed with something like "You've got no chance mate"or......"I don't "do"Fugleys":biglaugh:I remember a few years ago.My bf at the time was roadying some gig interstate.I wasn't going to sit at home so went to my "local"by myself.I was sat at the bar, when a pissed up guy approached me.....G:"How's it going Darlin"?Me:Fine thanks, until you came along...G:Ohhhh haven't we got a bad attitude"?Me:My attitude is fine bud,but it can change depending on who's talking to me,now **** off and leave me alone"!

  9. It's a travel thread - NOT a travel blog - by someone who has been a PIO member for many years and is keeping in touch with friends she has made on PIO over those years.

Anyone else can keep out of it. A first time post such as yours reminds me of that wise saying "Fools rush in....".

Unless you're a recycled member with a new name back for some stirring. In which case the "fool" bit still applies.

    :notworthy:Yep agree 100%!

  10. How deep does the hole need to be before the poster arrives at the core?

Well I guess it depends on how really feel about the place?Sometimes its not actually the place but your attitude towards it,dont you think?Personally, speaking for myself,I would have to ensure a move to Brisbane is as right as it can be,otherwise the OP will be posting back in time, saying Brisbane isn't for them either and now they have the expense of relocating to the UK.
