  1. $5.50. Wow what fish was it? Nile Pearch/Hake or Bocca? Two portions of fish and chips last week (Snapper) paid something around $32,here in inner city Leederville.

I used to buy Cod and Chips at my local chippie's, in London W2 for around GBP 4......when living back there in 10. Not only cheap but tasty as well.

I bought a piece of fish near Manchester about 3 weeks ago and got charged £4.70 and it was soggy, broken and no taste............ sorry but give me fresh cooked fish and chips anytime

  2. I bought a car in the UK last month and some road tax is now over 400 pounds depending on the emmissions that the car has then you have to insure it ........... and depending on where you live that is a nightmare......... one lad I work with was charged £3000 to insure his car ......... 3 years ago I bought a car ..... a little micro for a second car and was quoted £2500ish to insure that one and I had only paid 350 for it........... needless to say I did not go through that company but still was slugged over 600 pounds, I gave the car away a month later to a friend who lives down south and she was quoted 99 pounds and yet in my area there is very little car crime

  3. When I am in Brisbane , I fill my son's 11 cft freezer with prime cut meat for under $200 at a wholesale butchers shop and I have not found anywhere in the UK where I can do that. I regularily travel to Brisbane and do the weekly shop and unless I take my son when shopping can do a weekly shop to include BBQ's and entertainment for about $150. Shop around and forget the UK prices as you are in a different country and there are different shops but some familiar ones such as Aldi's and there is also costco .. I used to regularily go to a shop that was called half case and buy staples at a reduced price. Also if you can get a ABN number it allows you to shop at wholesalers............ Things like fridges and freezers are dearer but you can negotiate prices if you want to ...... you cannot do that in the UK.

  4. With that budget, not Bald Hills..........it's an "older suburb" and shall we say it...............not likely to know what a budget of a million is like, unless it's been ripped by a ram raid from an ATM...................Look at the better estate at Petrie on the Dayboro Rd.............I'm out of my depth here..............can someone take over please.

Yes Bald Hills is an older suburb in parts,I have owned a house there for over 30 years and it does have a lovely feel to it but there are also new areas ...... but I would not buy on the Bracken Ridge side of Bald Hills due to it being built on old flood areas...... .............. try Bridgemans Downs, Aspley along and behind Mandrell Terrace, Brighton and Taigum, Petrie is an older suburb as well unless you by in the built up area or around Lake Kuwongbah and North Pine Dam..... you could also try Cashmere and Youngs Crossing ............ if you want acreage ........ or if you want an outstanding house you could always buy the land and build

These last two are a easy drive to St Pauls

  5. If you are looking at schooling in Bald Hills why not try Strathpine, Bald Hills and Bracken Ridge........ or even Joyner and Bridgeman downs ..... travel from Eatons Hills to Bald Hills for the school run could be heavy on traffic. There is also Albany Creek and Aspley with the older houses and bigger land areas

  6. try Brighton or Sandgate on the north side...would he be driving to work or train will make a lot of difference. Lots of older style queenslander houses in these suburbs.... not far from Redcliffe and one of the nicest fish and chip shop in Brisbane

  7. Hi I would like to thank the 3000 odd people who have visited my thread about my raffle on here, I would have liked some more tickets sold, but am going to do the draw on the 1st of December. Tickets are still available.............I will have to do the alternative draw of the cash raised so far as there are not enough tickets sold for the house. Get in and buy a ticket .......... someone will win on the 1st of December smile.gif

  8. I have a PR visa (spousal) but just started looking at registrating for SA nursing board. I worked in NSW 10 years ago (don't know if that helps). Please can anyone help in starting the whole process off. Where do I can the application forms and a list of documents required? I have been on the APHRA website.

Hi, I am not sure but the fact that you were previously registered will make your application easier. I have read somewhere when someone had previously been registered had helped but maybe a phone call to the NSW AHPRA might help clarify your situation specially if you have your old pin number.

  9. Hi there, me and my wife are 2 registered nurses from Portugal starting the process to work in Australia, we have a doubt regarding the transcript of training required by Aphra. I went to my school and the document they had was a doc with 200 pages, is this it, can anyone tell me how a transcript of training looks like?

    Thanks guys.

The transcript should have all your hours both therory and practical and skills learnt, hours in both T&P so I would expect it to be a long document but as the UK ones are sent direct to AHPRA its hard to know what they look like or how many pages are involved. You just need information directly concerning your nurse? training

  10. I am finding I am in a similar position, due to my back ground I prefer and refuse to work on the male wards where I work, I am being pushed by my ward manager who came in after I started there and it was found to not be a probloem, but with this new ward manager he is insisting that I undertake work on the areas of my past so that I am possibly be moved(he says this will RARELY IF EVER HAPPEN) I have attempted to explain the mental stress and distress this work causes me but he still insists on my doing the work and now I have officially refused as I do not want to go down that line, he has bought HR into it and I have bought the union into it. I requested a reference from him for my AHPRA application and he stated the basics. I was also told that he could not put any thing negative in it.

  11. Hi, As far as houses go you will need the equal to 4 weeks rent as bond money which is lodged with a government dept via the letting agent, take pleanty of dated pics of ALL damage/ wear and tear/ stains and flaws and submit with your inspection report, this will make it easier to get full bond back when you move out. You will not have to pay council tax/ rates there but will be expected to pay power and excess water, not a lot of houses will have gas but air con and pools push up power bills.

Cars have the same as UK equal to a MOT every year in NSW if I am not mistaken and 3rd party insurance comes with registration, fully comp insurance is optional.

Not sure about your area as I am from QLD but depending on when your son has a birthday he maybe able to go to kinder and you will find it helps make friends easier.

  12. Hi, Ive posted the link to your raffle on my FB page, most my friends back in the UK so I'm sure youll get some more tickets sold through it. Good luck and a great idea

wonderful............... many thanks, I have a FB group page but no one appears to know its there ....... there is a link on my web site to the group page

  13. $294!

I was doing 76KPH in a 70 zone, so 3.5MPH over the limit.

What happened was VICROADS sent the fine to the wrong address in January 2011. I had changed the address when I moved with VR but they did not update it. I have no proof of this because I did not record the phone call. As I am sure you appreciate, when you move here, buy cars, rent houses etc you are very busy and hence do not always keep track of little things like the date you rand vicroads to update your address.

So they sent the original fine for $149 followed by various reminders (to the wrong address) and then in May 2011 an enforcement order telling me I cannot sell my car until the fine is paid (the total had risen to $294).

Eventually (after I bought a second car and registered in at my present address) they figured out where I lived (which they should not have needed to do because I had told them already) and sent me the fine.

I appealed due to the above and pointed out I had never hidden from anything (kept rego up to date, paid other small fines immediately etc) but they were having none of it. So I said I would go to court. But this may take 12 months and regardless of the court case having not been heard, I am still guilty here so still cannot sell the car!

The upshot of it is, is that I cannot sell the car to return to the UK unless I pay the fine which I am not allowed to appeal in a court unless I am willing to leave my car sat on the drive for 12 months (because I am not allowed to reregister it either!)

I think you can see that for exceeding the speed limit by 3.5mph this is a bit ridiculous.

Incidently they have informed me that had I gone to court and lost and still not paid the fine they may have sent me to prison!

Thats right, sent to prison for exceeding the speed limit by 3.5mph.

How can doing 76km be 3.5 over the limit yes it is in miles but you are ina KM country and that is 6 KM over the speed limit. There is no percentage over allowed in Victoria. Sorry to say pay the fine and save a life by learning that Victoria is strict. I have been fined in the UK for doing 3 MILES over the posted limit so it all depends on the day/ situation

  14. Yes Fairystar.anyone can now win it and rent it out for between 5 and 600 pounds per calander month or sell it and pocket the extra cash or if they are returning the winner would have a base to return to in the UK as I would also pay their legal costs as well.

  15. So can us PR residents in Oz win it? or only people who are living in the Uk or returning?

    Hi Fairystar,

if I can get the site developer to remove the block that he appears to have put on the site then anyone with the right to reside in the UK will be able to purchase tickets

  16. Ha ha....no was only three times, don't worry!! I'm sure in times such as these, you will have no trouble selling tickets. I'd also leave an advert in your local supermarket - I'm on maternity leave at the moment, and am amazed at the crowd the local noticeboard attracts. Good luck! :)

I am going to do that as soon as I have the post card size printed and will also get some business cards done as well ............. Well that accounts for 3 of teh 40 lookers the other day so its working
