  2. I am in WA and did a lot of relief work before recently getting a contract. I was only Level 2 in UK . Relief work pays $150 a day in mainstream $200 a day in ED Support Centres.

I am paid $24 per hour as a Special Needs EA in a mainstream school.

I just registered with lots of schools in my area all within about 20-30 mins drive and picked up plenty of relief work. If you register on the government website for the state you are going to they will email the job vacancies.

    Hope that helps

    Lou

  3. Thats because they make it so bloody difficuly for Uk sparks to get the A grade licence!! So the privileged few probably can pick and choose! Hubby is having a nightmare completing the assignments thankfully though he is working .

  4. Hi Paul

We were in your position 5 months ago. Dont want to put you on a downer bit it is very hard to get anyone to take you on as a TA . My OH was very lucky to pick up job fitting solar panels, because I was checking gumtree practically every hour!! you will probably have notice most jobs say A grade wanted , you just need to keep plugging away and maybe call to a few places. I dont know where you in Perth but there is a company in Bibra Lake called Nilsens who take on TA so I have been told. My Oh has dont the 2 week training so is now onto the assigments and will have to do another 4 day comms course before he can sit the capstone to get his A Grade.....

    hope you find something soon

    Lou

  5. Hey Colin

Hope your well mate. Just giving all the heads up that you can now do your gap training at CET. after a constant battle of trying to get Polytechnic to respond to emails, phone calls etc regarding a date for my capstone, (pass capstone = A grade licence) i had little or no choice but to ring energy safety to get my Restricted licence extended and after getting a telling off that i should have completed my gap training by now and that it cant be the college thats at fault, they extended the licence and told me that CET is now running the course to take the load off Polytechnic.

If you gonna go through this i would seriously go through the CET. CET is privately run Polytechnic is goverment funded.

Finally have a date in november for my capstone.

The nightmare will hopefully soon be over!!!:arghh:

Wish we had known sooner husband has just done the 2 week course which looks about $600 cheaper at CET!! Would he be able to do the capstone through CET or go back to Thornnlie? Jandakot is closer to us .

  6. Hi Guys

A question for those of you doing or have done the Gap Training. My OH was booked in for July but managed to get some work so has postponed it until Sept. When he gets the log book will it be able to be backdated to the work he has already done?

    Thanks

    Lou

  7. Yeah it ain't easy that's for sure. I am sure you will get somewhere eventually. I have a better job now and the company has gave me a project to run. Finally found a company that looked at my past experience and realised that i will get the license soon enough! And am almost finished the logbook. Trying to get the capstone booked now and i also need to do a comms test for my elective that i had to pick before i get the A Grade license. More time but at least i get my comms ticket too. I will be so glad when all this is behind me.

    Hi

We are arriving end of May have been in touch with college they wont put my hubby on course waiting list until i email a copy of his Restricted licence hoping that comes through anyday as credit card has been debited . they said a few weeks ago waiting list was May/June which would be good . Do you have any contacts you could put us in touch with regarding TA positions?

    Thanks

    Lou

  8. I only really looked at it and started it on Sunday and i was shocked at how much work there is!! I thought i would complete it all in a day. How wrong was I!!!!!!! Its really something you should be doing on a weekly basis i guess. Its very time consuming finding the correct clauses in the regs book even when you already know the answer. It forces us to spend a lot of time reading the book and seems more about the regulations etc than what the 2 week course was, it mostly was basic power calcs and how to wire 1 way and 2 way lights ffs! Im pretty pissed about it tbh as i think we already have enough on our plates trying to settle in to a new country and deal with our kids and now homework too!

Sounds like a total nightmare !! Will probably be picking your brains when we get out there? Are you working aswell??

  9. This is exactly my point. This system is so dumb you couldn't make it up. If you were the main applicant you would have went through all the shite. But because you are not you get the easy route!! Its like it punishes the people who have to prove their skills and work experience to get into the country. You sit a test (which is easy but i did see people resiting when i done it) and give 10 years work experience to prove you are what they want then you become an apprentice for a year! But hey if you rock up as a spouse or tourist here have a license LOL!

Waht a bloody joke the system is! We still got 6 months until we make the move and really hope something changes before we get there :arghh:

  10. Anyone know how long it takes to get the results from the Vetassess electrical assessment (UK)? I did mine almost three weeks ago but still haven't heard anything from them. How long have any of you guys waited for the results? Thanks for any info.

Have you checked on the website ? Think it was 2 weeks for OH but certificate took longer to come in post . They did scan it via email which I used for visa app & State sponsorship

  11. Hi chris

It seems a lot has changed in WA 3-4 weeks ago ...but if employers are still taking on sparks with restricted license the that is good to hear . I think that's what they are having a meeting about next week. Glad it's going well for you ( from a fellow Taff )

  12. This just gets worse. No information or warning from Vetassess at all. We called Energy Safe this morning as they have had problems processing my application payment. we paid over the phone and then asked to be transfered to the licensing department to find out exactly whats going off! They informed us that there is one place now that you can do the gap training and this is Polytechnic west. The course will run for a year. No more 2 week course, to get your license! this loop hole is well and truly shut. We then called Polytechnic west and spoke to the department who is carrying out the training. The nice lady on the phone answered as honestly as possible with "we dont have a clue whats happening, we dont know what the course involves all we know is that Vetassess has appointed us as the official college" she then went on to say "its a joke, there are companys in perth that are desperate for ellectricans, we dont know how long the course will be for but there will also be a seperate course for employers to boost confidence in taking on electricians with the restricted license. we have a meeting scheduled with vetassess next week, until then we dont have any answers for your questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like im having a nightmare and that any minute im gonna wake up and everythings gonna be ok again.

every job on seek.com.au states Electrician wanted must have A GRADE LICENSE!!

I really feel for you guys , we are not heading out until next year by which time I hope that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing!! Keep us posted with your progress and good luck!

  13. What i listed on previous posts is how it is as of today. They changed it 3 weeks ago :arghh:. I will post some updates on this thread when i get there to let you all know what you have in store when you arrive as it really is a step into the unknown.

That would be a massive help thanks!

  14. Hi can someone clarify to me what i need to do next to get my electrical A licence. I have had my skills assessed by vettassess and have been given an OTSR. We hope to be going to WA in the next 3/4 of months on a 175 PR visa.

Can i apply for a restricted licence from the uk?

how do i go about it and what does it cost?

    how long will it take?

I also would like to know can I go down the 2 week course route that has been mentioned here with an OSTR or do i have to do gap training and complete a log book as i have went the vettassess route?? Very confused

what will be the quickest way to get A licence as i have a young family and cant be out of work or on rubbish money for months.

Hi , it seems the rules have changed in the last few weeks if you read the top post you can see what's the current process ! Good luck we are hoping to move out next year , got our 176 visa a few weeks ago!

  15. Just off the phone to Polytechnic West and i have been told that 3 weeks ago the system changed. What we now do in WA is a 2 week course, log book and then at the end of the gap training we go to college for a week again to do our final test the same as what an australian apprentice does. So basically we have to do the final year of an australian apprenticeship when we arrive and pay $1700 for this and i that is the subsidised cost!!!!!!!! Sounds like a nightmare to me. I guess it will come down to wether i can get a company to employ me or not otherwise ill be driving buses or working 2 jobs in macdonalds to keep a roof over my familys heads.

Thats not good, every job I see advertised asks for A licence electricians !! When are you heading out? We are not going until next year but will be interested to see how others get on. Keep us posted !

  16. Hi, we just sent copies of driving licence, passport, birth certificate, and a utility bill from the uk it all added up to 95 points so that is why we sent extra ID and waited to see if it was ok, as obviously we dont have the australan versions asked for. We received letter of approval 4 weeks later. Just send all proofs of ID you have.

    Thats great thanks!!

  17. Heres what you can do:

Book yourself on a course with PEER training (www.peer.com.au) and buy yourself the following books.

    http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS678036347050

    http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=stds000017409

    http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS12820832AASS

    http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS778112015227

(Note: If you keep your receipts for the books and the course, you can claim them back against your taxable income providing you claim them in the same tax year as you buy them)

At Peer, you will be given a booklet to fill in. It will ask you to find the relevant section of the wiring rules to answer the question. This book can be filled in either at the training centre or at home, so really it’s up to you how long it will take to fill in. Once you have completed this you will then be able to take your exam, which is basically the same thing – filling in the relevant regulations.

It usually takes anything from 2 – 4 weeks to get to the exam stage (well they have to look as if they are at least trying biggrin.gif).

Once you have done your exam and passed, (impossible to fail, as they will tell you to amend things if they aren’t right), you will get a certificate to say you have completed the wiring rules course. You then take this and your ARTC certificate, which should have arrived by now) to the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) in Adelaide CBD. You will need to also fill in this form: http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/assets/files/form1a_pge_indiv_ptship_07web.pdf and pay the fee ($338 currently, again keep the receipt as you can claim it back wink.gif)

They will send you a letter asking you to have a photo done at various places (usually transport offices), once you have done that it will take approximately 10 to 14 days to receive your licence and away you go.

We wil be doing same as you crowded house so keep us posted how you get on !

    Lou
