  1. Hi, we (I and wife and 10,9 and 5 yr olds) have just recieved a job offer from a company in mandurah. I was originally hoping to be based around joondalup but the offer is too good to turn down. I have been reading about Mandurah and was slightly concerned at the school rankings and how bad is the mosquito problem? Do most people live and work in M or do many commute? Greatful for any information. Regards, Jeff.
  2. Hi, I was wondering if there are any general fitters (mechanical) out there either thinking about making the move or who have made the move. Have you managed to secure work or is it a case of going out there and hoping it doesn't take long to find work? I have seen plenty of vacancies for welders or fitters with mining machinery experience but how about straightforward fmcg (factory) production environment jobs ? Would love to here peoples views on whether they feel fitters can survive the move.:confused::confused:
  3. Some really good points made. We (myself, wife and three children) are deliberating the big move after securing our visa last year, we went to Perth last October to initiate and pretty much liked what we saw. The thought of "starting again" is very daunting as are the massive initial rental/start up costs. Fortuneatley we don't have too much close family but feel we are scared about missing the whole familliarity thing. The lack of any family/friends already in Perth makes things tricky aswell. As a few of you have already stated our primary reasons for going is for the kids futures. Jodipodi you make some fantastic points, I feel we have slowly come to the same conclusions, still have moments of massive doubt though! Jeff
  4. We find ourselves with exactly the same dilema, any decision yet ? Regards, Jeff
  5. hi mx44, could I ask where you went, and what sort of business your oh is in? thanks.
  6. Thanks for the posts, Gorvsy are you going to go without a firm job offer? Do you have wife and kids in tow? Thanks Srp, I have followed up the lead.
  7. Hi Andrew, My name is Jeff and I am looking for a position in Aus. I already have a 176 visa and have been TRA recognised as a fitter (general). My work experience has mostly been within the print (newspaper) industry and various fmcg environments (automotive magnets, bottling plants etc). Do you have any vacancies that may suit ? Thanks for any help you may be able to give, Jeff.
  8. Hi, my name is Jeff. I have a 176 visa and was looking for some advice about securing employment before moving my wife and three children to Aus. I have emailed hundreds of vacancies from Seek.com and have had very little response. One or two agencies have advised me to come and see them when I arrive. But....it is so difficult to relocate without a secure job offer. Has anyone else faced/overcome this dilemma. Is it a case of just having to be brave? (hopefully not foolish ). Most of the jobs that I have seen and heard of people securing before leaving tend to be mining or heavy engineering based, I would consider myself to be more of a maintenance/mechanical fitter with a history in print engineering and fmcg. Am I waisting my time trying to secure a job offer before travel in these types of industry? Is there any demand? I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with simillar experience or indeed anyone with helpful advice. (or come to that, anyone with a job vacancy!!) Thanks, Jeff.
