  1. Hello, Sorry if this question has been posted before. We're traveling back to the UK next week for a holiday. Some friends have advised us regarding which passports to use etc, but we were still a bit unsure. The details are such:- We have valid Australian passports with plenty of life left in them. Our UK passports expire in June (so less than 3 months left). We've been advised to leave Australia on our Australian passports, but enter the UK on our UK passports (to avoid long queues at Heathrow etc). The return is opposite (leave UK on our UK passports and enter Australia on Australian passports). But, because we'll only have a few weeks left on our passports, I don't think the airline (Singapore) will allow us to check in to come home using them. I don't think we could check in using our aussie passports either as "the system" won't have any record of them entering the country? It would be so simple just to travel on our aussie passports, but we've been warned of 3+ hours wait at Heathrow at passport control for international travelers. is this right? Thanks in advance for your wisdoms.....
  2. Hi Tony, Thanks for the welcome and advise about posting e-mail address. I knew I shouldn't have put it up and have now removed it. But the e-mail that I supplied was one of my "spam ok" addresses (that's why it had a bit of a strange name). I'll have to spend a bit of time looking at how to do things correctly ;-) Back to Rob.... As I've recently gone through the motions, I would be happy to advise how to set up a business in Victoria if and when the time comes (each state has slightly different rules).
  3. Although I look at this site fairly often, this happens to be my first post. After seeing your post, felt that I had to reply. First, not sure about the visa working arrangements. As someone already said, guess it depends on what visa your wife is granted. But from what I know, as long as you get a tax file number, you should be ok to get "employment" on most visa types. BUT starting a business is another matter altogether. You will need advice on this. Secondly (and the reason why I wanted to post), I also make guitars - but wouldn't call myself a luthier just yet! I have actually registered a business, part of which will be selling custom made instruments. I haven't quite started trading yet as I'm still busy making various fixtures etc. This isn't really the place to talk tonewoods etc, so I'm supplying an e-mail address that you can use / save for later, where we can discuss things in more detail. It's ? (I hope I'm not breaking any rules and hope I don't get told off in my first post, but this is more business related I guess!). There is big difference in making instruments here compared to UK and I'm more than happy to advise. All the best with whatever you decide.
