  1. I've still not been to Rottnest...need to go....

Really??? No way?? ha ha. I am hoping to go over in the next few weeks.....whilst the weather is still rubbish and the scenery isn't much to behold...I mean, it's not as if it has great beaches or snorkelling sites.......

  2. Hey everyone, some of you might know that i arrived in perth on the 27th of december 2014 from London.

I was dreading the day i had to flight out and it was absolutely heart wrenching to say goodbye to my family and finally fly the nest, as soon as i got onto the plane it was as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders and like i had found an inner peace.

i landed to many frantic missed calls from friends and family and to my surprise i heard that a plane had gone missing and people was concerned it was me, poor souls who lost their lives, could of quite easily been me.

Anyways i checked straight into fraser suites in the city which was very welcome after the long flight and emotions, i managed to only get 3 hours sleep, within the first day i had sorted out all i needed with the bank etc and on tuesday my second day it hit 39 degrees !! so decided to spend it up kings park which was really nice.

i also spent new years up king park and watched the fireworks over the river. i managed to buy a cheap little car off a fellow englishman to get back and fourth to work to and it also gives me freedom to explore.

i started work this monday just gone and it was absolutely sweltering, inside the workshop it hit 51 degrees inside and was 46 outside, hows that for the first day of work !!

So far i have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, the people are so friendly and helpful, people actually want to talk to you !! the streets are clean, the food is fresh and the sights are beautiful, not to mention the wildlife and aussie ladies lol

The last 6 months of my life have been extremely stressful and to be here is so relaxing and it makes me wonder what i was scared about in the first place lol

now i need to get out there and find some friends and also a girlfriend if I'm lucky enough :)

I will post again in a couple of weeks on my progress but that is all for now !!

    Paul

Nice one mate. Sounds like you are living the dream Great to hear. I am too. Just completed two years of study and am now a fully qualified Carpenter :)

Try and make the meet up on Feb 8th in Perth...

  3. I like your style.

Mrs Bristle now has to work that day so has told me go and she will meet me when she finishes. It will be about 5pm before gets to the CBD. She has way too much faith in thinking I'll be sober. She may have to put a tracking device on me or pin a note to me saying "If found, please call this number".

Don't worry mate, I will put a leash on you and tie you to the bar......err.......on second thoughts....ha ha ha

  4. If I could id be tempted just to stay for the full year with my whv lol i don't think I could manage to sneak in with no money. You would see me on that immigration program lol my gran watches that all the time! Never mind - I'll hopefully see you guys in September.

Have a great time everyone - wish I could be there too.

I, and everyone else, really wish you both could be there too, it would be totally awesomesauce xx

  7. I have actually been looking at taking the exact same route as you, doing carpentry at TAFE followed by a Graduate visa and a Job Ready Program with TRA for PR Skills Assessment. However I am being told that you can only get the full Level III Certificate if it is studied as part of an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are only open to Aussie citizens. Maybe your work placement covers this part of the qualification?

As far as I am aware, in order to do the JRP you have to be "Employed" as the company will have to be registered with TRA. However I would contact TRA regarding this as it is a permanent place of subcontracting so there may be exceptions since you won't be contracting to lots of various companies. I think it is more so that on a contract it's easier to prove the amount of hours you have done as this is a requirement for certain steps of the program.

The 485 visa itself will give you the same full working rights as a permanent visa, you can do whatever occupation, if any, for the duration of the visa. It is however wise to work in your nominated occupation in order to claim points for Australian work experience and to gain skills assessment.

You will also need to do step 1 in the Job Ready Program with TRA to gain skills assessment for the 485 visa itself.

What exact qualification did you do?

Hey Mate, sorry for the belated reply, only just seen the notification.

I did the Cert 3 in Joinery and Carpentry at Midland Polytechnic West.

AAfter I completed the course, the College sent a letter to the TRA outlining all my achievements and all the Work Experience and thehours undertaken, which goes to wards hours worked in the trade.

  8. .......another thought......have you looked here.....https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/freecycleperth/info

......it's a wonderful place to get those bits and pieces....

.......I've had lots go from here to a new home...

......I do believe that once something has been paid for....

    ......it shouldn't require another ....!

.......unless of course it's of great monetary value and owes you....

.......so many have extra in their homes and are only too pleased to re home it..

    ........best of luck to you......X

Thank you Tinkabell..........wonderful to hear from you.

I hope you are well and happy xxx

  9. Hiya Gang,

I am looking to move out of my sisters house and her tribe for some peace and quiet...ha ha.

So I am in need of furniture of the bedroom kind. So if anyone has a bed (preferably double/queen sized as more room to roll about :wink) and is in the Perth Region (SOR ideally) then let me know....fankoos muchlies

  10. Ok thank you @blossom79 and @Ozmaniac....much appreciated. I will be qualified as a Carpenter and Joiner. I have already accumulated well over 500 hours of Carpentry related Work Experience and the Company I have just been doing my latest block of Work Experience with, have offered me a job but on a self employed basis, whereby I will be required to get an ABN. I am assuming they will pay my wages straight into my Bank Account, so would that be evidence to show the Authorities?

  11. Hiya All,

Ok some advice please. I'm nearing the end of my two year TAFE Course and wish to stay and work in Australia (forever is my goal).

I've been told about the Graduation Visa which enables me to work, live and study in Australia as long as I meet the requirements, which I do.

Now I have tried searching on the Immigration Website about this visa, but not getting my answers I need.

Basically, I have been told from friends, that the Visa is 18 months in length and if I am able to work for 12 of those 18 months in the trade I graduated from, I should accumulate points that'll help in gaining a PR Visa.

Now the questions I have are:

    1) Am I able to work self employed during this visa? I have recently completed Work Placement with a Company and they are willing to employ me but only as a Self Employed Worker with an ABN.

    2) What, if any, proof would I need to provide to satisfy the Immigration Dept that I have indeed worked for the length of the Graduation Visa?

I know I may be asking questions that won't be able to be answered, but I have emailed the Immi Dept a few weeks back and as yet, had no reply.

Many thanks in advance for any help given.

    Much love

  12. have a Happy curry night at ours .....on the Friday , i will cook Indian , Chinese ....bring your own ....if you like ...all share a meal ....bring a couple of bottles of wine , one of each .......of course better details nearer the time .......

I'm deffo up for that Nick.......would be awesome.

  13. I won't know till much closer to, which (if any) I can make tbh. Schedules are unpredictable and it is highly likely I may have to bring a child with me on either night (and I probably wouldn't do that on the Fri)

I personally think it would be too busy in there on the Fri (but also likely to be fairly busy on the Sun but less so)

You can book either for me Kate and if I can make it I will x

I'm sorry Happiness but you have to come....Tis the law!!!!

I'm sorry, but it won't be the same without you if you were absent.

Also, I'm pretty sure you owe me a drink or two.....he he he
