  1. Thanks for your response Dom. So in your opinion if you work hard l, dott your i's and cross your t's it is a pretty solid program? Did you find it a challenge to find part time work while going to school??? Did you end up getting sponsored?

    Thanks bro

Yes I think so. When you undertake the Cert 3 Carpentry and Joinery course, you need to find work placements. If you impress the Company you are with for your Work Placement, they may well employ you on the days you are not at TAFE. It is hard going sometimes, financially speaking, but, like you say, if you work hard enough, put yourself about and in the shop window, so to speak, there's no reason why you can't get success from it.

I personally found it very hard to find a company that would sponsor you, but you never know.

  2. Hey mate. Sorry for the late reply.

Basically I applied for and got the Graduation Visa when I finished the Carpentry Course.

I also did the Work Ready Program with Trades Recognition Australia, which, upon completion, you are trade recognised and it is waaaay easier to get a job in your trade with this qualification. It also adds massive weight in applying for PR.

The only thing is, it costs money.

There are stages to undertake through the process.

The main one is filling out monthly journals of tasks you've completed. Then every quarter you need to print off your journals summary, copies of evidence of being paid in the Occupation you've nominated (bank statements) all of which needs to be signed by your Supervisor.

The main cost is the Workplace Assessment which is $2000. This is when an Assessor visits your workplace and sees what you do, has a chat to you and your supervisor. He then sends the report to the TRA and this then unlocks the next stage, which is the Completion of the required amount of hours in the 12 months the TRA Program goes for - off the top of my head, I think you need to have worked a minimum of 1548 hours in the 12 months.

Once you've satisfied this, you then pay the $200 or so to get your certificate.

Then, you use this to apply for PR.

I didn't end up going this route, as the company I worked for (a decking company) couldn't find me enough work to satisfy the requirements of the TRA Program.

I know this is heaps of info to take in, and understand, but I hope it brings some clarity to you and answers some questions/queries you may have.

    Bestest of luck mate.

    Dom

  4. Lol we will all go together, may be a few years until I'm finally away from hospitals but it's a goal to aim towards. Bobj knows some wonderful places.

That would be unbelievably awesome. A trip to remember for sure

If I can make just one person smile, then I've made a difference.

  5. You will be missing one of the most beautiful road trips ever. We did half of the route with @Bobj and could have spent 6 months there easily there is so much to see and do in the Kimberlies. Same with Darwin, I think it is wonderful, but then I like quiet places with nature and wildlife.

You'll have to send me a tour guide to follow Hun [emoji7] [emoji4] xx

  9. Hey Flake.

I can't think of anything to say it suggest that hasn't already. What I do know is that you get one shot at his thing called life. Yes you made the choice to return to Aus, but you did it in the hope it would give your family a better life, and you did it like mothers do, at the expense of your happiness.

I think it's good that you've given the situation time, perhaps you could use this period to concentrate on you and do things that make you happy. Yes of course, son is number one priority, but doing stuff that makes his mummy happy can only be a good thing, right?

The very bestest of luck x

  11. I'm rely struggling tonight. I've got all anxious and emotional over something silly and I'm having one of those "I could just go home moments". I think the thought of the fruit picking is making me extra anxious because everyone here keep telling me bad stuff about it

Stacey, you are amazing. You can do whatever you want. Never stop believing in yourself

Aww thank you!! Some people don't find it very interesting but I like sharing my stuff with friends on here who don't have facebook and if I can help any other travellers then I'm happy too

It's a great thread. Love the photos and hearing about places you've been to. Certainly gives me a few ideas xx

  13. im definitely going to queenstown! It looks beautiful. I just can't decide to do 2 months in NZ from October or wether to go home for Christmas and then go to New Zealand after new year

    Why Queenstown Hen?

  14. Hi everyone,

I thought I best to a update since I'm leaving tonight. Ive had such an amazing time in Perth and met the most lovely people. The perth members have been so kind to me, its like i have lots of aunties lol. I didn't get to meet everyone that i wanted to but maybe next time!

Places i went - south perth (a million times!), kings park, langley park for australia day, hillarys, swan valley, toodlay, mandurah, rockingham and loads more i think! I had much better luck making friends this time and i made friends with a lovely english girl and 2 lovely german girls. Going to miss them. One of the german girls wanted me to come travelling with her but im going to try catch up with her at some point.

I really do appreciate everything everyone in perth has done for me, i wouldnt have had the same experience if it wasnt for them. Thank you. I've had some crap times here like today but most of the time perths great and i could imagine myself living here one day. Im coming back over to WA especially if i do my second year because i NEED to do the coast or i'll hate myself forever lol.

I am truly gutted that I didn't get to meet you. We WILL hook up when you're in these parts again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Perth......enjoy Queensland xx

  15. I've only just got back to my room, I've left them to it. Would you believe @britgirl and @northernbird.

It was absolutely fantastic to see you all, even the ones who had changed their mind still went out of their way to come, really glad you did.

The children were very well behaved, better than some adults, not mentioning any names @MovingtoTasmania (love you loads) poor Northernbird will be trying to get the stains out of her clothes for days.

It was lovely to have StinkyTink there @Tink who flew over to be with us.

Last but not least, thank you @John from Moneycorp for allowing us to have this wonderful opportunity, ssshhhh I haven't told you this John but you have a number of female admirers

I would like to post some photos, I don't have many but if anyone has any objections please let me know via pm.

Would love to see the photos Honey xx
